Meredith Grey is awful

I’ve been unwell and recovering from major surgery for the last few weeks. My sister in law has always been into Greys Anatomy and recommended it as something to watch.

So firstly, I’m hooked and bombing my way through it. But it’s sort of turned into a hate watch as I find so many of the characters are just TERRIBLE people!

I’m on early season 5 so no spoilers if possible! But so far, my issues are:
-Cristina is an absolute bitch. I mean, a horrible, selfish, gives no shits person.
-How did her and Burke go from casual dating to moving in and nearly marrying in a matter of months? She was HORRIBLE to him and barely admitted any feelings-I do not get this relationship!

-Crisitna and Meredith are classic ‘mean girls’ to Izzy…they tease George, ice out Izzy and barely tolerate Alex. They’re like the popular kids at school who waltz around stuck up

-All the girls are just nasty to Callie who hasn’t done anything wrong. They laugh openly at their relationship and repeat confidences. And we’re supposed to be rooting for these girls?

-Derek and Meredith are ridiculous. She wants him, she doesn’t, she’s annoyed at him, constantly whining… then I realise the first 3 seasons are over 8 months (Addison mentions in series 3 she would have given birth if she had kept the baby she terminated 8 months earlier when she was living in NY)…! Whatttt?

-Meredith. Just insufferable! Whining all the time, indecisive, treats George awfully, is now terrible for Lexie and openly spiteful to her. Is she really the main character?

However, I am in love with Miranda Bailey-please tell me I won’t be let down!!!

And yet, I continue to watch!!

I also don't understand the writing between Derek and Meredith in this season. It starts off with the mass falling out over the study.
Derek moves out and can't stand her.
She gets the baby and they share custody but are frosty
She then STEALS the baby and runs off with it causing them to lose custody.
He blames her for them losing the baby
Episode 5 and he makes reference to not even being able to look at her
Episode 6 hes kissing her, moved back in and talking about naughty things with her.

WHAT? Where is the progression?

I think some people don't like Christina because she's a woman who is extremely intelligent and confident and tells the truth. She would have your back if she was your friend 100%. If she were a man she wouldn't be so disliked. For many people an assertive man is an assertive person, yet an assertive woman is an aggressive person.

Agree, I much prefer other characters over her. I think she should have been killed off a long time ago.

Chandra Wilson (Bailey) has also been in musicals on Broadway.

I think it’s funny that some people just don’t sing at all in that episode - did Patrick Dempsey not want to, or is his voice really terrible?

I'm now coming towards the end of series 9 and I loath Christina even more. I don't blame Owen for doing what he did, she's selfish and self centred. No thought for anyone else. Mutter

Urgh no. Owen is the worst. Christina doesn’t have to have a baby she doesn’t want.

But why oh why do tv couples never discuss children before skipping merrily down the aisle

I’m not sure where you’re up to, but I really enjoyed the last few episodes of series 9.

Episode 21 is good, and the last couple are a classic grey’s disaster (which I don’t think is a spoiler as grey’s disasters happen all the time, especially at the end of a series, and come in all shapes and sizes!)

Owen is the absolute worst.

owen is a knob, im re watching the whole thing now for the 3rd time,on season 20. i still dont like him, especially early on.

also never liked izzy. and i couldnt stand the whole denny story line!

I’m now at the end of season 10 and I feel cristinas character has gone through a massive transformation in this season.

Honestly I disliked her all the way up to here and then really loved her this season so I’ll be interested in what you think! Meredith on the other hand…ugh!!

Meredith and Derek both. I don't understand how it got so popular.

I started to really dislike Owen when he used Cristina’s trauma to get her to marry him. That’s the only reason they hadn’t had the conversations at that point, although she was always very clear she did not want children. The fact he was so dismissive of this and so certain she would change her mind pissed me off. Owen “needs” to be a rescuer - look at his longest relationships, they tend to be where he has swooped in as a white knight. But they’re doomed to fail because a healthy relationship isn’t based on that. Before the season 6 finale, Cristina had ended things with Owen because of his feelings for Teddy…. So the moment she’s traumatised because of the events at the end of that season, Owen swoops in and marries her. You can see why Meredith was so concerned as her best friend!

So you think she should have had a baby she didn’t want? Nice. Women are not incubators.

Why exactly are you watching the show? All you and the OP are doing throughout this thread is moan like fuck about all the aspects you seem to despise (and it seems to be EVERYTHING). Unless someone’s forcing you to watch it, do you just enjoy being miserable?

Nothing to do with the baby actually, did I mention it? - I just think she's an unpleasant character all round.
Incredible to be attacked for passing comment on a thread about a show, which has mainly been lighthearted.
I'm not miserable watching it at all, everyone on here has been talking about characters they dislike or like or storylines they want to comment on

@Tillow4everalright, calm down! It’s a lighthearted thread about a show I’m watching while I’m off work with health issues and whilst I enjoy the show, I dislike some of the characters.

Cristina is a self centred character who has some growth in season 10. This has nothing to do with her pregnancy-she’s only concerned with herself and her career and will climb over people to further it. Whereas in previous seasons she treated the patients appallingly, this changes after the plane crash and she’s much warmer.

I did miss two central characters in season 10 though, but I won’t spoil it for Waxy

Me too! I really missed one in particular and still wish they hadn’t ummm eliminated them!
