Anyone else? I tuned in last night and couldn't believe how bad it was! 1975 was headlining and it was so middle or the road.

I don't think it works that way. The Irish army wouldn't be protected because they are Catholic or the Saudi Arabian because they are Muslim. Being part of a military isn't a protected characteristic no matter your ethnicity or religion.

As an aside corrie was in an area being demolished, she was killed by a bulldozer. She shouldn't have been there. Unlike the Nova festival goers who had every right to be where they were.

The IDF is a terror army meting out terror on children. Nothing you can come back with will ever justify their actions.
As for Rachel Corrie, it’s the bulldozer that shouldn’t have been there, not the young woman trying to defend people’s homes from destruction. And who was defending and aiding the bulldozing? Oh look, it was the IDF. The most immoral army in the world.

The IDF is a national defence force not a religious defence force, although Netanyahu has done his best to fudge the two. Conscripts include Druze and Circassians and whilst Arab Israelies are not conscripted (along with some other groups) they can volunteer.

The bulk of the members may be Jewish but its a national army with a religious make up broadly reflecting the people, just as the Saudi army will be overwhelmingly Sunni without being a “Moslem army”.

There are differences between race, religion and nationality and conflating them only ever causes problems - it turns every war into a race/religion war.
