Anyone else? I tuned in last night and couldn't believe how bad it was! 1975 was headlining and it was so middle or the road.

Maybe I'm getting old but the music was awful!!! So bland. Im early 40s 🤣

What are your thoughts?

No, he didn't do Helpless. He did Harvest Moon and Like a Hurricane though.
Also, from what I remember off the top of my head, Sugar Mountain, When You Dance I Can Really Love, Why Do I Keep F*cking Up, Cinnamon Girl, The Needle And The Damage Done, Hey Hey My My, Rocking In the Free World and some newer ones I didn't recognise (but I've not really followed him for a decade or so)

Playing devil's advocate here.

Starmer is dreadful for calling for Glastonbury to drop Kneecap, who called for the murder of MPs and are facing terror charges, but..

The MP who managed to get Marilyn Mansons gig pulled ... Isn't? Considering all charges against him have been dropped though it seems pretty clear he's an Awful Person.

Nerd Manson is an old hand at the Creating Outrage For Headlines game. Would the "we welcome all views" line from Glastonbury mean they'd have him play in 2027 (most bands are actually paying to be there)?

Manson is a rapist

I thought Charli was really popular and was questioning why she wasn't on the Pyramid

I then saw her miming away and thought ah, that would be why

I know her audience probably didn't care, and her stage looked really busy, but she made me feel really old, I just didn't "get" any of it. The few bits I didn't mind were her rave type music accompanying some of her songs, but would have preferred it without her "singing"

I dont do tik tok and know she's popular there, so maybe that's why I dont get her

Should at least sing live and not mime, almost everyone else ive watched seemed able to

JIMER202 · 29/06/2025 00:31

I thought it was me getting older but you couldn’t pay me to go now!

TrainGame · 29/06/2025 00:37

It looks like a very motley crew these days. All those random flags flying, what’s that all about??

I can’t imagine baking in 30 degree heat with all that malarkey going on around me.

Give me Ibiza classics with Pete Tong at the Royal Albert Hall or the O2 any day instead. Then off to my own bed and bathroom afterwards. Glastonbury looks boring and hard work. I’d pay not to go.

Ursulla · 29/06/2025 00:44

Fuck me, Ian McKellen's just appeared on stage with the scissor sisters.

Ursulla · 29/06/2025 00:45

He was declaiming.

Oh swearing is fine i do it myself but her songs literally were all fuck fuck fucking fuck. I don't get the acclaimed songwriter bit.

She is a genius. This is the song that was her first big success - no swear words in it.

Glastonbury always looks deeply unappealing to me, especially with all the boring old MEN that inevitably get booked as headliners yet again. I'd probably pay money not to see Coldplay or The Rolling Stones. As for this year, the promise of the abysmal Rod Stewart playing would have meant I would have avoiDed it like the plague without the added threat of Neil Young and a surprise appearance by the absolutely dreadful Lewis Capaldi!
I like a few The 1975 songs, though find Matty's voice grating and wouldn't want to sit through a whole set, still, most of one of my favourite albums probably wouldn't exist had Matty Healy not inspired many of the lyrics by being such a bad boyfriend, so I'll give them that!
There are some acts playing who I love, but I have been to several Charli XCX gigs and we were lucky enough to see the wonderful Olivia Rodrigo in Hyde Park on Friday so no need to go to Glastonbury for that. The Hyde Park BST all-dayer we went to was great, girl in red and Last Dinner Party both played before Olivia. It was lovely to see such a young and enthusiastic audience, probably a majority of the attendees were under eighteen and about 95% female and many were pre-teens and were so incredibly enthusiastic about seeing their idol play!

Blinky21 · 29/06/2025 00:55

The BBC's response to Kneecap is a disgrace, I really hope they lose the broadcast rights when they renew soon.

My mid teen can't stand her, too generic so horses for courses.

Also, how is R more relatable than some of the acts at Glastonbury, isn't she famous from Disney channel? PinkPantheress are at least British and their music more complex IMO amd DDs.

I’ve not watched the Self Esteem set from this year but the one two years ago was the first time I heard her - just caught the tail end of a song and sat utterly enthralled watching it on screen. Immediately watched it all over again and more than once since. Saw her live that year and seeing her again in the autumn though new album hasn’t grabbed me as much as Prioritise Pleasure did. Also saw her in Cabaret with Jake Shears! She’s really worth giving up a bit of your time for.

ian McKellen (and self esteem) joined scissor sisters on their recent tour so not surprised he turned up tonight.

one of my siblings is there for the first time so the family WhatsApp is getting lots of excited updates - the crowd for Pulp looked insane. It’s much more than just the main stages but have always felt it’s just too massive so never ventured there myself. The thought of all those steps in the heat (or the mud!) totally puts me off.

off to see Olivia Rodrigo this week so will probably avoid watching her tomorrow so as not to spoil any surprises (I’m hoping for a Noah Kahan special appearance).

incidentally, we watched the Kneecap film this evening and really enjoyed it - clearly started out as a pair of chancers but I think their impact on the Irish language among a younger generation is undeniable. More generally, I find there’s a much more pro-Palestine attitude among Irish people - certainly within my own family but also among many Irish musicians and comedians I follow online - there seems to be less hesitation than there is among British public figures to speak out. So there’s maybe less antipathy towards Kneecap on home soil as a consequence.

I haven't watched the Neil young set yet so I don't know how he sounded but there does come a point where singers' voices go, it's entirely normal and an ageing thing. At that point they can either ignore it and trade off the fact that everyone will still pay to see a "name" or do something about it - change the arrangements, dodge the impossible notes, get some good backing singers around them, stage their performance differently. And yes it won't sound the same, but then hearing someone singing badly doesn't sound very nice anyway.

I saw Diana Ross in concert a couple of days ago and her voice was absolutely fantastic for an 81 year old. Couldn't believe how good she was and sounded for her age, unless she fooled us all and was miming!

whynotwhatknot · 29/06/2025 01:30

love iton here. Charli xcx is great but lewis capaldi is crap

think a hearing test is needed

MissFancyDay · 29/06/2025 01:35

Just watched the Neil Young set and really enjoyed it. Agree the acoustic songs could have had better sound but overall fantastic.

I’m enjoying Neil but if you don’t know his music you probably won’t enjoy it. Perfect festival music IMO

I enjoyed Neil Young
So did my younger cat. He gazed in fascination and he had a little dance to "Rocking in the Free World". I've never seen anything hold his attention for so long.

TheHateIsNotGood · 28/06/2025 22:35

Neil Young must be in his 80s by now. Like him, love him dislike him - what will you be doing in your 80s?

I saw him live a few years ago and he was great!

The pretentiousness of it all whilst the bogs are always disgusting by day 1 is enough to make me never want to go.

Neil Young that is 🤩
