Perhaps unlike most people on the thread, I have been to Iran twice on business (which is quite rare for a business woman from the UK) although not for the last 10 years. I have nothing against the people but the regime is appalling. I am not saying the late Shah's son (the heir in exile) should ascend the throne although that plus parliamentary democracy would be very good for the people of Iran, but regime change would be wonderful. At present Iran is a pariah state for loads of good reasons and it does not do its people any good to be such.
I certainly hope we can help Iranians in the Uk go back to help their nation at its time of crisis if they want to do so. There are about 114k of them (42k of whom were born Iran) and some will want to go back and others not.
Any MN thread where people with very different views come together even if they don't agree is a good idea so we can test out facts and positions. That is much better than sitting in isolated silo echo chambers only hearing the same views. (I support Israel and regard Iran as an arch enemy of the UK but obviously people have all kinds of different views on these issues - although if we were in Iran we would not be allowed to express them of course.......)
