Whatever your stance is on trans issues do people really have nothing better to do than verbally slaughter him for choosing to continue within the franchise and being honest that he has no strong opinions on the matter? He's a big boy now and I'm sure he can handle himself but it makes me terrified for the young actors who are also already being subjected to this as well.

I myself was also pretty much forced to remove a post on a facebook group congratulating one of the young actors on being cast in the TV series as some of the vitriol I received completely overpowered the positive intention of the post. I said nothing inflammatory just pointed out that not everyone disagrees with JK's opinions and that we need to be accepting of opinions which are different to our own.

I'd understand the backlash if JK or so called TERFS were spreading genuine hate or encouraging persecution of a group but I just don't see that. IMO whatever your views on gender identity are there's way more horrible and important things going on in the world. Is a lot of trans-activisim really just a way for young people to express their very valid dissatisfaction with the world in general in a reasonably safe way? Honestly maybe I'm getting old and boring but I just don't get it.

There are evidently multiple people trying to pressure Tom Felton and present him negatively for his continued association with Harry Potter and refusal to abase himself, but I must say I think his continued refusal to engage with any of it has served him pretty well so far. He clearly doesn't attribute any value to the emotional blackmail. Many people will view that as a significant positive, and they won't necessarily all be GCs either. I don't know that a change in tactics would serve him any better, especially as there's always the worry about the Streisand Effect.

I think multiple nasty and potentially defamatory articles written about him by activist ‘journalists’ clearly hoping to cost him work and reputation constitutes harassment, yes.

A flavour of the hyperbole:

“Tom Felton, however, is actively choosing to ignore the elephant in the room. It's disingenuous to pretend that Rowling's statements don't affect him, especially since her very comments endanger the lives of people in the trans and queer community, many of whom are his fans. To me, this implies that Tom cares more about collecting a paycheck than standing up for trans rights, which are human rights, and I desperately need him to do better.”

Where is this from? And I agree I hope he's talking to his lawyers as we speak.

INeedAPensieve · 12/06/2025 10:03

The TRAS are unhinged. All they have are violent threats. It's ridiculous. Sending love to Tom, hope he just ignores everything and does his job as everyone else will be.

It's crazy how many people in the UK are transphobic and so uneducated. Trans people have been around as long as us cisgender folk have.

Now there are more medications available. Two physicians I work with and three nurses I work with are transgender.

Don't be scared just because you don't understand.

Since you "cisgender" folk have only been around for what 50 years (since you started abusing the language) that's not very long

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 12/06/2025 10:25

I think you should have removed the people who were giving you grief rather than removing your post.

50 years? The word first entered the dictionary 10 years ago. And I reckon that in another 20 years it will be marked "archaic" or "obsolete" or "derogatory".

Yeah I get the harassment point, but I can't be the only person who actually thinks better of Tom Fenton the more of this crap I read. Like reverse defamation.

Agree. He seems to have a brain and a spine which is a rarity these days.

I was being generous. transgender dates back to 1970 (ish) cis gender 1994.

What does that mean? Cis,in the sense you are using it, has been around a maximum of 10 years (I think less). Transfolk have not 'always been there', people have cross-dressed for various reasons - women often because this was the only way to earn a living, do the job they wanted to do; they were not 'trans' they just found being a woman narrowed their opportunities to the point that it was impossible for them to do what they wanted, a fault in society, not the women.
Some societies have accommodated cross-dressing by allowing subsets of men to behave in feminised ways, think the Hijra of India. This allowance has rarely, if ever, been extended to women - which tells us all we need to know about transgenderism: it's another Male Rights movement intended to erase women.

"Cis" is being claimed to have been coined by dana defosse, first used in 1994.

The previous poster said that transfolk have always been there, I said that the word transgender has been in use since the 1970 (ish),

Don't shoot the messenger.

I Coined The Term 'Cisgender' 29 Years Ago. Here's What This Controversial Word Really Means.

"Before now, I have not spoken publicly, or even disclosed my role in the origin of the word cisgender to anyone beyond a few close friends and colleagues."

Notably Penis News, who seem to be picking off HP actors one by one and hanging them out to dry on social media if they don't prostrate themselves at the trans rights alter. They referred to Tom Felton's comments as "atrocious" and reference Katherine Parkinson's fans as being "devastated". Nick Frost seems to have toe'd the line though, so he didn't get criticised.

Lovelyview · 12/06/2025 15:35

I've watched the Harry Potter films with my children but I wouldn't describe myself as a massive fan. However, seeing the fan excitement on Instagram was so touching. I'm sure it's going to be a massive sell-out and I do think he handled it very well.

Nick Frost, who can't be short of a few bob, is apparently the love interest to Jordan "piano-abuser" Gray in that ITV sitcom no one watches, so make of that what you will.

Has that already been on then?

His play role has been extended due to ticket demand.

Good for him. Money talks, and sooner or later everyone listens.

People need to realise the "silence is violence!" crowd are a vocal minority online. Unless someone is in the minority of entertainers who have built a career on pandering to the blue-haired, they can side-step the issue and face no real world consequences at all. Most of us are sick of this even being a conversation.

As excitement builds for the tv show, I suspect more and more fans will get sick of doing this dance of denouncement every time they want to speak positively about it. It'll be Hogwarts Legacy on steroids. The TRAs are pissing in everyone's cornflakes, and we're all losing patience.
