Will these balloons ruin my wedding?

I am getting married in a historic, landmark in Aug. The venue has been quite strict on the things they will allow. It has been annoying at times but it’s a compromise we have to accept.

I want to add a fun element to the disco. I have found these balloons and think they are perfect. I showed the venue wedding coordinator and they said they’ve had bad experiences with balloons (wtf?) in the past so “they wouldn’t”. I feel this is overly dramatic. How hot can it get? It’s a medium sized period room (enough space for 85 people to dance).

The party room is going to be very low lit with up lights. I think the led balloons will be just right.

Do you think the venue is being ridiculous?

They're doing you a favour, those balloons are super tacky

Bluevelvetsofa · 16/05/2025 14:21

Well, I suppose if you don’t agree to their terms and conditions, they may suggest you find an alternative venue.

We don’t know what the bad experiences hve been, but if they don’t want those balloons, I’d back down.

Moonshinerso · 16/05/2025 14:21

I could be that people pop them and leave a mess.

ThejoyofNC · 16/05/2025 14:22

Extremely tacky OP, sorry.

purplecorkheart · 16/05/2025 14:22

Putting this kindly they probably do not fit in with the style of the venue and don't look very well.

Does the venue have high ceilings. Maybe they have had balloons float up to the ceiling and had difficultly getting them down particularly if there was a tight turn around between weddings.

I don’t mind tacky. I going for a fun vibe. The room is extremely elegant. So I think it will work on the ceiling. With very low lighting and a disco ball.

We’ve respected all the terms. They haven’t said an outright no to the balloons.

I think they’re lovely. I’d go ahead unless they think it will damage something.

Talipesmum · 16/05/2025 14:27

What actual reason have they given? Balloons getting taken out of the room and released into the rest of the house? Balloons being a pain to store beforehand? Balloons falling down to the floor mid party and being used as footballs?

Edited

Well if they’ve only advised against them, rather than saying outright that they won’t allow them, it’s up to you. But it depends on whether you want to argue the toss.

Plickers · 16/05/2025 14:30

I’d want a tonne at ceiling level. Thats my vision.

Id ask them why, they may change your mind.

Lapidarian · 16/05/2025 14:34

Ask them why they’re not keen.

WildCherryBlossom · 16/05/2025 14:34

I really like them! Where are they from?

They said they’ve had bad experiences in the past with the heat. But people have balloons in Texas in Summer, surely

I got married in 2024 and considered these - decided against it when I came round to buying them as there were so many negative reviews online - the LEDs only working for a few minutes, balloons popping, etc. Maybe that’s what the venue meant?

I quite like them in the white not the multi coloured LED though

Where did she ask your opinion? Did your mother not teach you any manners?
Op I think they’re lovely, I would ask what the issues are exactly if they’re advising against them

Plickers · 16/05/2025 14:37

I bought some to test and had no problem whatsoever. I obviously can’t replicate a room with 80 people giving off body heat in Aug

This is the vibe.

That’s the vibe of every disco.

IkeaMeatballGravy · 16/05/2025 14:38

Balloons are generally seen as the sort of thing you would see at a village hall or social club weddings rather than historic venues. It's a bit like putting a 'honk if you're horny' bumper sticker on a brand new Ferrari. That's why they are uncomfortable about them but not being forward about why.

Personally I think they are pretty, but I am not fancy.
