Will these balloons ruin my wedding?

I am getting married in a historic, landmark in Aug. The venue has been quite strict on the things they will allow. It has been annoying at times but it’s a compromise we have to accept.

I want to add a fun element to the disco. I have found these balloons and think they are perfect. I showed the venue wedding coordinator and they said they’ve had bad experiences with balloons (wtf?) in the past so “they wouldn’t”. I feel this is overly dramatic. How hot can it get? It’s a medium sized period room (enough space for 85 people to dance).

The party room is going to be very low lit with up lights. I think the led balloons will be just right.

Do you think the venue is being ridiculous?

Yes because how important are balloons in the grand scheme of getting married?

Don’t know, but it was a particularly nasty unnecessary comment, was your opinion that important?

OrangeCrushes · 16/05/2025 15:49

Just another vote for "ugly AF and plastic waste is disgusting"

I mean if you say "I'd like these balloons at the wedding" and the people at the venue say "I wouldn't if I were you" you have two options really.

  1. Ask them why not
  2. Come on a forum and ask a lot of strangers who have no idea why they said it why not

They told me because of the heat. Like I have said multiple times

But what do they mean? You need to check with them.

You seem to be being a little bit willfully obtuse about why people are saying "speak to the venue".

Ablondiebutagoody · 16/05/2025 15:53

Their venue, their rules. Plus they look shit.

BeFunnyCyanRaven · 16/05/2025 15:53

I think they are nice personally great for a disco

Brefugee · 16/05/2025 15:54

congrats on your upcoming wedding.

IMO all balloons are both tacky and a menace to the environment and should be banned.

burglaraphobia · 16/05/2025 15:54

They told me because of the heat. Like I have said multiple times

But what about the heat? What are they saying the problem will be precisely? They will explode? They will drop to the floor? What? "the heat" is very vague

Sorry that doesn't make sense, your not twelve what would balloons add to your wedding reception.
The venue said no.. accept their decision.

andtheworldrollson · 16/05/2025 15:55

So ask what do they mean the heat but be prepared that you can’t have them

TooGoodToGoto · 16/05/2025 15:47

Apparently her mum told her too, some never are able to cut those strings……

Just no need to be nasty for no reason.

vl888 · 16/05/2025 15:56

We got these types of balloons once for a corporate party and had a nightmare with them. The weight of the lights stopped them floating properly. they just dropped after a few seconds. Perhaps we had dodgy helium but if you do go ahead, I would test first. It was winter we tried them, so imagine warmer time of year would make it worse potentially....

intrepidpanda · 16/05/2025 15:56

Maybe the venue is trying to establish itself as environmentally friendly

MonoMono · 16/05/2025 15:59

It is pretty shitty, environmentally.

Yeah I know about China etc. But I think we need to grow up and stop using balloons full stop.

I have read the opposing posts, doesn't make our participation ok.

This is something small we can do, unlike day to day stuff and flying abroad.

I don’t mind tacky. I going for a fun vibe. The room is extremely elegant. So I think it will work on the ceiling. With very low lighting and a disco ball.

That looks beautiful! Very disco.

pictoosh · 16/05/2025 16:12

I've got no opinion on the balloons but I am struck by how nasty and insulting some people are being over this.
It's like some of you are just waiting to strike out. Any reason will do.
Even balloons.

It’s like they have never heard of : different strokes for different folks

We wouldnt allow you to have them at our high celing venue.
UP they re not a problem, but getting them down at the end of the night is a nightmare.
YES they do have to come down that night- even one starting to deflate and descend overnight will set of a burglar alarm.

Every bride says ''no problem '' but com the end of the reception, she's not going to do it, and anyone who might ( Best man?) is usually too drunk

Thindog · 16/05/2025 16:20

I hate helium balloons, had to deal with a horse that was put down as a result of panicking when a loose one landed in the field. Just horrific.
Why add to the mountain of indestructible plastic crap ruining our world?
Celebrate some other way. Please.

Littlejacksmummy · 16/05/2025 16:29

I love them! So cool! Never seen them before.
