Ok little backstory - I’ve lost around 27lbs in the last few months and I’m still on a long weight loss journey but starting to feel a little bit more confident.
My belly is my by far my biggest insecurity.
Been shopping for a new summer wardrobe and saw this dress - I think I’ve never worn a dress in my life due to my deep weight insecurities but this dress somehow spoke to me and I bought it!
But now I’m not sure - it fits great but I feel it draws attention to my big belly?! Should I keep it? I don’t know.
I know it should be only me and my opinion that matters and how I feel but please tell me does it really fit me? Is it flattering?
Thank you!

You could do a lot lot better

congrats on weight loss

Nameftgigb · 06/05/2025 18:31

Can you post a pic of you just standing normally. We can’t really see the shape when you’re standing weird or deliberately grabbing your belly fat!

Nameftgigb · 06/05/2025 18:31

And zoom out so we can see your whole shape. We don’t have to see your face

Jennywren8 · 06/05/2025 18:32

I think you look lovely (except when you squeeze your tummy with your hands bringing attention to it!)

Cedrabbage · 06/05/2025 18:33

Not a fan of the sleeves. Slightly longer would provide more balance. The belly is what it is can't say this either flatters it or highlights it from the pics

Turmerictolly · 06/05/2025 18:33

A side view would be useful. It looks a little tight.

Wanderdust · 06/05/2025 18:33

I think you look lovely! You won't be standing the way you are in the second pic, the first one looks fine - would not think you were too big for the dress if you walked past me in the street. Congratulations on the weight loss!

Queenofthebrae · 06/05/2025 18:33

Well done on the weight loss. I think it’s a flattering dress on you. The pattern draws away from any lumps and bumps.

sweetpickle2 · 06/05/2025 18:34

If you're insecure I wouldn't post on AIBU asking for opinions.

Tummybanana · 06/05/2025 18:34

Maybe some spanx under? I am a similar shape and shape wear gives me confidence and smoothes out the belly a bit. I often wear dresses that shape. It's tricky to see how it fits tbh, can you zoom out a bit and blank out your face?

Newstartplease24 · 06/05/2025 18:34

Well done on the weight loss. If you want something comfortable and easy to wear, and are self conscious about the tummy, the pattern and the looseness will detract from the tummy and I think you will find this very easy to wear and useful in hot days especially. This is not a killer dress but not all dresses have to be killer dresses. I think you should keep it, enjoy wearing it, get used to dresses and keep an eye out for different styles and get used to shoes / accessorizing for dresses

2dogsandabudgie · 06/05/2025 18:34

It looks fine in the first pic, can you take a photo sideways.

Comedycook · 06/05/2025 18:35

First picture it looks flattering...in the second it looks like you're grabbing your belly which is just drawing attention to it and is pointless because when you're out and about wearing it, I imagine you won't be doing that! I'm not a huge fan of the print but that's entirely unrelated to your body shape and just my opinion.

Anyway, if you like it wear it and well done on your weight loss

Jane958 · 06/05/2025 18:36

Too much pattern.
Neckline not flattering, but you did ask.
V-neckline and a bit more "skimming" - not much though

  • would be spot on!
WhereAreMyKids · 06/05/2025 18:36

Congratulations on your weight loss!

Honestly, no matter what is said here, is it really going to change how you feel in the dress? Personally I wouldn't. I'd rather send it back and find a dress that makes me feel wonderful than one I need hyped up to wear.

CharityShopMensGlasses · 06/05/2025 18:36

You have lovely slender arms,
I think it's lovely on you, pull your bra straps a little tighter so the bust detailing sits a little lower on you to accentuate your shape :)

HappyFitnessQueen · 06/05/2025 18:36

I think it looks lovely. It's a really nice 'go to' type dress for daywear and a trip out for something to eat/drink.

ffsfindmeausername · 06/05/2025 18:37

it's hard for us to say as we can't see the full picture of it on you. upload another pic showing the full dress from neck down. also without holding your belly, you're not likely to walk around holding your belly are you! more of a natural pose.

Notshoppingagain · 06/05/2025 18:37

You look completely different in the two photos!

This. It's a good pattern, and if it's cool and comfortable for the summer, enjoy wearing it. Treat yourself to some block heeled sandals or similar to add a little extra height and you'll look great.

Well done. So impressive 👏

Louise121806 · 06/05/2025 18:38

I think it’s really nice on you.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 06/05/2025 18:38

It's a very pretty dress that suits you - it looks well fitting and is in proportion.

Wear it and enjoy it.

RickiRaccoon · 06/05/2025 18:39

It looks nice. It's dark with a pattern so pretty flattering, I think, though we haven't seen you in different styles to compare. Sometimes it takes a while to get used to wearing different to what you're used to.

ffsfindmeausername · 06/05/2025 18:41

And I'd never wear anything if I uploaded pics asking for people's opinions as I look terrible in everything. whereas I know people who cut put on a bin bag and still look lovely.

NovemberMorn · 06/05/2025 18:42

It suits you, you can always wear some spanx or similar to give you a bit of tummy control without discomfort.
