Ok little backstory - I’ve lost around 27lbs in the last few months and I’m still on a long weight loss journey but starting to feel a little bit more confident.
My belly is my by far my biggest insecurity.
Been shopping for a new summer wardrobe and saw this dress - I think I’ve never worn a dress in my life due to my deep weight insecurities but this dress somehow spoke to me and I bought it!
But now I’m not sure - it fits great but I feel it draws attention to my big belly?! Should I keep it? I don’t know.
I know it should be only me and my opinion that matters and how I feel but please tell me does it really fit me? Is it flattering?
Thank you!

It fits well and doesn’t emphasise your belly, but it is a bit miserable and dull looking. Could you find something with more attractive fabric?

RobertSmallpiece · 06/05/2025 19:32

it's all about confidence. But if you need reassurance I for one think you look great.

GeorgianaM · 06/05/2025 19:34

It’s not that it emphasises your stomach area so much as that it’s a horrible cheap dress, very matronly.

You would look better in something that has movement and doesn’t just grip your body.

Atarin · 06/05/2025 19:34

Heavier fabrics like linen skim any bumps, wash well, and last. I think your successful weight loss deserves something a bit more exciting!!!

Well done on your weight loss, it’s so impressive.

MyLegoHair · 06/05/2025 19:35

I agree with a pp - not every dress or outfit has to be a "wow" moment. This one isn't wow to the casual observer, but jeesus what a standard to maintain if every outfit had to be! It's fine, it doesn't draw attention to your belly from what I can see, it would be completely unremarkable in every day life and is flattering. But it spoke to you and you bought it after some hard won weight loss - that is remarkable and you should wear and enjoy it. Use it as the starting point to find some other outfits that speak to you and are flattering, maybe a few "wows" thrown in there too.

MeganM3 · 06/05/2025 19:37

I like it as a dress for a summer day, out and about.
I don’t think anyone would give it a negative thought at all.

Well done on your weight loss achievement!

Tryingtokeepitreal · 06/05/2025 19:37

I think it looks nice

outerspacepotato · 06/05/2025 19:39

How are you styling it?

I could see multiple coloured thick bangles on one arm and some vintage white earrings. A chunky shoe.

It's kind of a cute, sweet dress. I'd go against that and wear something a bit masculine like a black silk top hat.

A big shawl with a handmade rustic metal shawl pin when it's a bit cooler.

UpMyself · 06/05/2025 19:39

It looks nice but you are asking us, which implies you aren't sure, so return it.

SnoopyPajamas · 06/05/2025 19:39

It's nice on you, but I can't stop laughing at that second pose!

You'll look lovely, as long as you don't walk about with your back arched out and your hands gripping any hint of podge to make yourself look nine months pregnant 😂

The good news is, it's surprisingly easy to never make that pose again. And then you're sorted 😉

Congratulations on the weight loss. Have fun shopping!

As someone on the same journey size 22 down to 16 WELL DONE YOU!

I think the dress is nice. Try focussing on what you’ve done so far and that the dress makes you feel good rather than you still have a belly.

Big belly and boobs are my main issue but I’m learning that I can live with them and still feel great about myself. I wore a dress today, added a belt to pull my waist in but completely ignored the fact I’ve still got a big belly. The belt was chunky with big buckle, I’ve found adding these to dresses last summer (size 18) and this that they make me feel far happier and confident. I’ve started to treat myself to accessories something I never bothered with in the past, I’m loving the new confidence I’m getting from making an effort and being braver than I ever did in the past.

You deserve to enjoy your new body op, go for it.

I disagree. Wow doesn’t mean glamour and glitz. I’ve just had a massive wardrobe clear out and got rid of so many ‘meh’ dresses that I didn’t feel great in, barely wore, and were a waste of time buying. I now buy things that make me feel great, even if it’s just a simple sundress.

MoominMai · 06/05/2025 19:41

Congrats on the weight loss 💚

I don’t think the dress is the best fit. It’s not a particularly difficult style to try a replicate with a better fit though. Regardless of size it’s best it skims over all the curves nicely and doesn’t hug any particular one part of your body. Did you look at yourself sideways also? I do that and many a time had a shock when from the front it fitted fine or so I thought!

Frostynoman · 06/05/2025 19:41

First pic was lovely - couldn’t see a hint of a stomach in it

TheAmusedQuail · 06/05/2025 19:42

I wouldn't say it's flattering. But it's not unflattering either.

I don't think your belly is that obvious (other than when you're making it stand out) but it's hard to tell from the first photograph.

PrettyPuss · 06/05/2025 19:43

It looks so pretty on you! Honestly.

This makes sense too. I suppose in the op's case it depends on a few things, but the meh - wow scale is pretty individual.

Onthemaintrunkline · 06/05/2025 19:47

It’s a super dress, relax and enjoy wearing it, it looks great on you. Congratulations on your weight loss, you’ve done so well.

RentalWoesNotFun · 06/05/2025 19:50

Not sure how the voting works on this post.
If you’ve got a bit to go then you won’t look as good as you want yet. The dress will still fit if you lose half a stone. Keep it and enjoy it. You won’t look any thinner in leggings.

Olika · 06/05/2025 19:54

The dress isn’t good for you. The pattern doesn’t work.

BountifulPantry · 06/05/2025 19:54

I don’t like the pattern or style sorry.

but that would be true for anyone no matter what size.

RinkyDinkDrink · 06/05/2025 19:58

I like it, really nice neckline and looks pretty and flowy. For what it’s worth, people are going to have all kinds of different opinions, even if you’re a supermodel, so if it feels good, wear it. Having said that, I like it!

HumanRightsAreHumanRights · 06/05/2025 20:00

I can't tell from those photos.

You don't need to show your face, but how the dress looks is going to include how it looks below your stomach so you need to show all of it, plus ideally also a shot with you standing sideways.

You could try getting someone else you know to take photos of you in it sitting, standing facing the camera and sideways, not with you intentionally posing, just ordinarily walking about and then you will see what it looks like much better than standing looking in a mirror because the way you took those photos makes me think you are really focusing far more on your stomach than anyone else would.

If you have lost 27lbs, then anything you wear will look nicer on you than it would have before you lost the weight.
If you haven't finished losing weight yet, then in a few more months, this dress may well be too big on you.

Be kind to yourself, you have already done something great for your health so you should feel proud.
People who know you are going to be noticing your slimmer self far more than exactly what you are wearing.
If you like it, enjoy it.

Well done on the weight loss.

Strawberrypicnic · 06/05/2025 20:01

You could do soooo much better! Imo the pattern is drab and only people with very small busts look good in those seams that come in just under the bust (because that's who they're cut for).

It doesn't look too tight though

BellissimoGecko · 06/05/2025 20:05

I think you could find something much more flattering. The sleeves are too short and the dress looks too tight. Sorry!!

your figure is lovely - you could get something much more flattering!
