Dd has one of her artworks on exhibit at the Royal Scottish Academy’s Annual Open Exhibition. I don’t think I’m BU to be so proud of her, although IRL she doesn’t think it’s worth mentioning to friends! She’s the youngest in the show.

That's fabulous! What an achievement. Does she get her artistic talent from you or her dad?

Musicaltheatremum · 03/05/2025 12:53

Just Wow! She's amazing

Neither! It’s all her!

She needs a patron, OP. There are ways and means of finding one, but it’ll be your job as her parent to ensure she picks the right one, to protect her from exploitation. Her talent is her gift, that she can give to whomever she chooses. There are people out there who will want to pimp it for themselves. But good patrons are out there. You need to help her grab their attention.

Donated (and bumping this link 🙂 )

Yes, I agree. I feel a little out of my depth with this one. But she does need a patron.

She might also need a business-type facebook page so people can follow her abd her art but she can keep her private life separate

Allseeingallknowing · 03/05/2025 13:10

OP, haven’t read every post so may have already been mentioned. Has she applied to take part in Sky arts portrait artist of the year? It would help her already fantastic career!

I don’t think she can do this until she’s 18?? But something for then.

She’s a talent for sure (ive got portraits by a finalist and winner of the portrait artist of the year so I’ve shopped around a fair bit!) one of my DP nieces is training in portraiture painting in Florence at moment. She’s 19 and good, but not quite as good as your DD I don’t think

FriendlyLaundryMonster · 03/05/2025 13:14

@ChampagneLassie Wow! Lucky girl. I’m sure her work will be excellent to be studying at the FAA.

Wow, I thought that was a photo from the small picture. She captured such warmth and kindness in his eyes. Amazing talent, I would be unbelievably proud too! X

Allseeingallknowing · 03/05/2025 13:17

Just looked at her website, she’s phenomenal! The detail in the hair and skin is unbelievable! The expression captured in those faces, giving insight into their characters is marvellous.

Ive tried to search her directly on Instagram but ruby_micham isn’t coming up
is her user name something different?

FriendlyLaundryMonster · 03/05/2025 13:21

Outrageistheopiateofthemasses · 03/05/2025 13:31

Amazing! If course you are proud, rightly so

triballeader · 03/05/2025 13:35

Just seen her website and a little of her art.

Your daughter is more than good and a natural artist and her portraiture is well observed and superbly drafted. Well done to her for being exhibited.

I know a lot is made of having a degree in fine art but she may thrive best learning from periods of time spent with other working artists in their studio set ups. Maybe take a year amongst working artists and seeing if it’s essential take the degree route before applying. i have artist friends who consider I have the advantage over them of not having to unlearn all they learnt for degree and masters fine art. I sometimes think they have the advantage by knowing more and having had more tuition in marketing.
