AIBU for being so proud of dd achieving this at 17?

Dd has one of her artworks on exhibit at the Royal Scottish Academy’s Annual Open Exhibition. I don’t think I’m BU to be so proud of her, although IRL she doesn’t think it’s worth mentioning to friends! She’s the youngest in the show.

My mum was a painter.
I know quite a lot of 'known' artists.
She is extraordinary.

Shout from the rooftops and then shout some more.

Peakcentral · 03/05/2025 13:49

I was having such strong deja vu with that portrait. I’ve now realised that friends got married at The Crinan (well, on their boat!) last August and I’d seen the photo of her in the boat shed while it was a work in progress!

Incredible work, what a talent.

FriendlyLaundryMonster · 03/05/2025 14:05

Wow @Peakcentral She was indeed in a little outbuilding painting!

Wow, she’s good! I thought it was a photo until I clicked on it. And for her not to be bragging about it, that’s something else to be proud of. She’s going to have a very successful career, I’d say.

HideousKinky · 03/05/2025 14:13

Some of her others are wonderful too - the self portrait at 16 and "Mindset"
You are rightly very very proud!

ASuitableName · 03/05/2025 14:21

I am in awe of your daughter’s talent, her portraits are breathtaking. And what a beautiful, articulate girl she is; I wish her every success and happiness.
Thank you for sharing this with us, it has truly made my day Flowers

lifeonmars100 · 03/05/2025 14:23

I love the self portrait one

Happilyobtuse · 03/05/2025 14:24

Absolutely amazing! Well done to her! You must all be so proud of her! Very talented! 👏👏👏👏

Annettecurtaintwitcher · 03/05/2025 14:25

Wow! Her paintings a phenomenal, what a talent!

cryinglaughing · 03/05/2025 14:27

Amazing.
As someone without an artistic bone, I am in awe of her talent 😊 and her obvious hard work!

Jesus that's breathtaking. I didn't expect to be stunned like that. Damn right you're proud 🥲

REDB99 · 03/05/2025 14:32

She painted that at 17? Wow! Amazing talent. Someone who buys it will be buying the work of a great artist!

She actually painted it at 16 when she just finished her GCSEs but it’s just being exhibited now!

Wowser what an incredible talent she is. Really amazing

Abend · 03/05/2025 14:47

It's perfectly normal to be proud of your child's achievements. I'm not sure why it matters what others think though.

Naepalz · 03/05/2025 14:54

Not unreasonable at all. That is a fantastic painting, especially to have painted so young.
On top of that you should also be so proud that she is such a grounded, self effacing young woman. She is an absolute credit to you. May she enjoy every success in the future!

zingally · 03/05/2025 15:09

She painted that?!

It would never have crossed my mind that it wasn't a photo until I saw the mention of oil underneath.

Ubertomusic · 03/05/2025 15:18

I studied art and can tell she's very good. "A Pause" is an excellent work.

DrPrunesqualer · 03/05/2025 15:20

It’s wonderful
but if she doesn’t want it mentioned to friends then that’s her choice.

She and you can feel proud of such an achievement as it is.

midlifeattheoasis · 03/05/2025 15:20

Wow! I too thought it was a photo. What an amazing artist she is. Incredible

DontTellMeWhat2Do · 03/05/2025 15:22

The kid is talented through!

inamarina · 03/05/2025 15:27

These portraits are amazing OP! You can definitely be very, very proud of your daughter. She’s extremely talented ❤️

user1492809438 · 03/05/2025 15:34

Just looked at her website..breathtaking. Such a talent, and so assured at so young. Completely in awe.

FundingIssue · 03/05/2025 15:37

THAT IS NOT A PAINTING, THAT IS A PHOTO.

Sorry I don’t usually shout, but your daughter’s talent has blown me away!! Amazing girl.

Namechanger2578 · 03/05/2025 15:39

@FriendlyLaundryMonster

I thought it was a photograph... it's stunning. She's very talented, and I hope she goes far and achieves her dreams.
