Dd has one of her artworks on exhibit at the Royal Scottish Academy’s Annual Open Exhibition. I don’t think I’m BU to be so proud of her, although IRL she doesn’t think it’s worth mentioning to friends! She’s the youngest in the show.

I'm usually underwelmed by a lot of modern portraiture - but wow she really has a lot of talent.

I hope you manage to get obtain the funding you need to let her further it.

FriendlyLaundryMonster · 03/05/2025 12:02

It’s a HUGE achievement.

Well done her.

Apart from the talent and achievement itself, it’s a brilliant CV win.

Enjoy your pride, and may she do the same.

Terrific achievement, great painting and well done!
I have 2 schoolfriend, who are artists/sculptors - we are all in our 60s now, so they are well-established. If your daughter would like any advice (on funding Florence, for example) please PM me.

FriendlyLaundryMonster · 03/05/2025 12:19

@Jane958 🙏🏽 I have PM’d you.

@FriendlyLaundryMonster Just to suggest bumping occasionally to keep this link visible to anyone who may like to donate. 🌻

She is amazing. You are totally allowed to have bragging rights on this one. We should normalise it being ok to shout about our children’s achievements and not always having to be humble about it!

Thank you so much for sharing her art with us.

BoredZelda · 03/05/2025 12:32

Where about is this exhibition. I’m going to try and go see it.

I was confused for a minute - I couldn't grasp how that "photo" was a painting! Bloody hell! She's got such an incredible talent, and to get her work exhibited in such a prestigious event is wonderful. Congratulations! 👏 💐

beesandstrawberries · 03/05/2025 12:48

I’m a photographer and I feel like I can relate to your daughter. she seems so incredibly talented and not only such an amazing achievement, but at a young age shows she’s got an amazing future ahead of her. But artists and anyone in the realm of creatives are the most critical of yourselves. It feels like no matter what you create is not good enough, you want more or you feel like you can do better. I also feel like a lot of creatives, unless you have creative friends or family - you don’t really speak about this passion as it’s not seen as everyone’s tastes. I was the only creative in a friendship group of academics, I felt like I wasn’t good enough so I didn’t speak about my passions, my achievements.

I would speak to your daughter, try to get to the bottom of why she doesn’t want to tell people. I would tell her that the arts is a career worth perusing if that’s what she wants and regardless what people think, she can do whatever she puts her mind to. If that’s what she wants, having this going for her already is going to look amazing in her portfolio.

RedWhite · 03/05/2025 12:50

She’s an incredible artist OP. Making me cringe as I can’t even draw a bludy stick man.
