I bought my DS a £12 Easter egg and I’ve gobbled up most of it, as he’d forgotten about it. I gave him the cheap ones as I was enjoying the expensive one. Disgusting behaviour I know… 😳🫣

I know this is about Easter eggs but our mum didn’t abuse the Easter candy.
Every Christmas Dad’s client gifted him a big 5lb (2.2kg) box of elegant chocolates.
He’d bring it home and Mum would give us 3 kids a piece or 2 and hide the rest - and eat it all herself!!
My mother would basically eat an entire 5lb box of chocolates all by herself.
When she was closing in on about 85, I asked her about that - and she told me she had a guilty conscience while she laughed.

I housesat at my daughters a few years ago just before easter she had already bought the kids eggs I ate and replaced them 3 times in a fortnight 😂

Haha, I once ate my son's Easter egg and had to replace it three times too! I've no control with chocolate in the house.

KarlaKK · 24/04/2025 00:41

More than a few mentions of eating and replacing an egg three times - so funny! I wonder why 3.

caringcarer · 24/04/2025 01:08

We all had an Easter egg but DH bought me and him cream eggs to share too and we ate them when kids in bed. Some things are meant for adults. 😁

Currently on the sofa eating one of my sons, he’s three, and our kitchen currently resembles Cadbury world with all the eggs he’s got off friends and family.

I ate a whole tray of Ferrero Rocher once when wrapping Christmas presents.

It was glorious.

I once got through an afternoon of Christmas present wrapping with the aid of an entire box of After Eights & a bottle of red wine. The only way to do it, really.

@ClarafromHR YABVVU to be tempted by Canadian Easter offerings (unless they are from Purdy's). I am a British Canadian and every Easter am consumed by longing for just one decent Smarties or Buttons Easter egg.

Time to teach your Dc about tax. This is a great illustration

Whenever my children were given sweets or chocolate when they were little they would always give it to me to open it for them. I would then explain to them about the ‘opening tax’ one sweet, or piece of chocolate for me, the opener.

I agree! Canadian chocolate is absolutely terrible.
My British dad would buy chocolate in the UK on his visits to us. I’m Canadian but have lived in Dorset for 40 years.
When we travel to Canada, we always take loads of chocolate to our family as they long for decent confectionery. We also take M&S biscuits as we’re told there is nothing comparable.
On occasion, when in Canada and feeling nostalgic for a childhood favourite, I’ve bought myself an O Henry. Then I taste and remember why I love living in the UK.

Dogsbreath7 · 24/04/2025 17:44

Good quality chocolate is wasted on kids. Developmentally their palates for the finer things in life doesn’t happen till much later, say 25?

You earned it and there are so few parental perks…

ConnieHeart · 24/04/2025 17:48

If the worst comes to the worst the nice Easter eggs are half price in Sainsbury's. So if he remembers just buy him another one, oh and an extra one for yourself 🤣

Flossy1985 · 24/04/2025 18:01

😂😂😂 my partner bought me some kinder bars “off my 6month old” and he’s already been at them!!

Sorry to be so vulgar, but how on earth did you do that, without shitting through the eye of a needle? I can’t eat more than a few of them, without getting a dodgy tum. Combined with alcohol, I’d never get off the loo! I love After Eights, but they just don’t love me 😭 (It’s the same with any mint flavoured things, don’t know what it is that causes it). I swear I’m literally the reason they have the laxative warning on the back of polos, and chewing gum 😂

Topseyt123 · 24/04/2025 18:20

Chocolate forms one of your 5 a day because it is derived from the cocoa bean. So tell yourself that and keep replacing the eggs. 😃🤣

workingcocker · 23/04/2025 21:35

YABU as posh choc is grim. I was given a posh choc and it was revolting dark chocolate! 🤢

Give me Cadbury any day!!

Posh chocolate is not grim, some of us prefer dark chocolate, you can send any posh dark chocolate our way and you can have our cheap and not as good as they used to be Cadbury eggs.

Well, I was fine, even with Crohn's Disease!

Sorry to hear about your problems - mint is supposed to be good for the digestion, so not sure what's going on there.

Normally I find After Eights a bit sickly, but I paced myself throughout the afternoon & polished off the whole box easily. These days I'd eat Bendicks, but then these days Type 2 diabetes beckons (I wonder why?) so I can't do it. Also, I've reduced the number of prezzies, order most of them direct or transfer money & no longer wrap stuff for DH as he Hates Christmas Anyway. So no wrapping involved any more. But it was an experience, & I'm glad I did it. Sort of like running a marathon, but with chocolate. And wine.

Jigsawasaurus · 24/04/2025 18:28

Can't do it now as DS would notice but we do encourage trades so he'll swap chocolate for me to do one of his chores! 😂

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/04/2025 18:33

All my lot were away over Easter. I bought a Maltesers egg for a Gdd who loves Maltesers, and then gave into temptation one night and scoffed it. Then I bought a Munchies egg for dh, and scoffed the Munchies. (left the egg.)
He now has a different (intact) egg waiting for him, and I’ve already passed eggs to all the Gdcs - couldn’t find a replacement Maltesers one though!

Fair play to you mate. I always wrap presents with picky bits like Maltesers, or M&M’s. Love a little snack when I’m wrapping. Makes the task seem less arduous!

I love Bendicks too, but again, can only manage two or three, and have to stop. Otherwise it is not pleasant 😭 It’s always the things we love, that hurt us the most!

anon666 · 24/04/2025 18:37

Now where did those eggs go? 😶‍🌫️

Sunshineandrainbow · 24/04/2025 18:38

Talking of eggs has anyone seen any caramel small eggs. Same size as creme eggs.

anon666 · 24/04/2025 18:38

Im just glad the bloody things have got eaten finally. I've made myself ill four times this week eating too much chocolate 🤢

Backtoschoolblues · 24/04/2025 18:45

Ah I remember when mine were young enough to not notice an egg missing 🤭
