I bought my DS a £12 Easter egg and I’ve gobbled up most of it, as he’d forgotten about it. I gave him the cheap ones as I was enjoying the expensive one. Disgusting behaviour I know… 😳🫣

OP posts:
Applesandpears58 · 23/04/2025 20:28

Currently on the sofa eating one of my sons, he’s three, and our kitchen currently resembles Cadbury world with all the eggs he’s got off friends and family.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/04/2025 20:29

Has anyone called ss? Clearly a safeguarding issue here. 😜

Gymrabbit · 23/04/2025 20:32

I know I’ll get slammed for this as it often comes up on mumsnet. but I generally don’t get why so many parents find it perfectly acceptable to steal from their children.
I can honestly say that me and my husband have never eaten any of our kid’s treats.

i know the OP bought the egg in this case but in most cases it’s family or friends buying them and presumably they are wanting the children to benefit not for adults to stuff them in their faces.

if you want Easter chocolate then buy it for yourself. No judgment from me at all if you want to buy 20 eggs and eat them but this feels like abuse of power to me - taking stuff because you want it and the kids have no come back.

It genuinely amazes me that on mumsnet if you touch your child or shout at them it’s seen as abuse but stealing from them is absolutely fine.

You can't be held accountable for this. It's an addiction with no support network.

Iniquity! 😂 I, too, am guilty of similar!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/04/2025 20:36

I'm looking for a wet blanket emoji....anyone?

MoominMai · 23/04/2025 20:37

Did DS really ‘forget’ or had you forgotten to give it to him?! 😂

Bingbopboomboomboombopbam · 23/04/2025 20:38

£12? Was it the Kinder one? Because if so, completely understandable!

lifeonmars100 · 23/04/2025 20:53

I once had to replace my child's Easter egg three times! Bought it , hid it and then at night I would hear it calling my name so I scoffed it. Rinse and repeat two more times. I learnt never to get the eggs in too early

Icanttakethisanymore · 23/04/2025 20:57

My DS is nearly 4 and whilst he’s very enthusiastic about chocolate he doesn’t actually eat much at a time and forgets about it too. I’ve just eaten most of the Easter egg his grandma bought him 😬

Survivedtheex13 · 23/04/2025 21:01

Don’t beat yourself up. My guilt is selection boxes when my 3 children were small. Cost me a fortune replacing them many, many times before Christmas morning 🙄.

Lovelysausagedogscrumpy · 23/04/2025 21:04

It’s chocolate OP. You are automatically forgiven !!

Bringbackjaspers · 23/04/2025 21:04

I don't find it cute nor funny to teach children that it's okay to take whatever you want from someone else smaller than you.

It's greedy and selfish and encourages greed in the person you're taking it from. I've seen it in action. Kids who wolf down every morsel when they don't even want it because they know it will be gone when they come back to it if they don't.

That's why society is in the toilet. Selfish people with zero morality and no self control. Me. I want.

If you want chocolate. Buy some for yourself. Don't claim it's for someone and eat it yourself after you've told them it's theirs.

Yes. I am a wet blanket, but at least I can say I've never taken candy from a baby.

PeloMom · 23/04/2025 21:05

Time to teach your Dc about tax. This is a great illustration

OliveWah · 23/04/2025 21:06

Nearly 40 years ago my DSis and I were 5 and 7, and had put our eggs on display in our bedroom following a huge Easter egg hunt at our DGPs. Our DM came running in with a can of fly spray, muttering "I'll get you, bloody fly!", and proceeded to spritz a light coating of fly spray over the beautiful display of chocolate eggs. Within seconds, DM announced "Oh no girls, you can't eat those now, fly spray is poisonous!" and she promptly removed them.

At the time, although I was disappointed, I fully believed she was looking out for our health, she was a nurse after all! However, I mentioned it to her a few years ago and she laughed and said "There was no fly - anyway, did it not occur to you that the eggs were still in their foil?"

I think @RedWhite eating one of her DC's Easter eggs is a minor issue in comparison with my DM who lied to us in order to steal our entire Easter haul for herself!

Yellowhammer09 · 23/04/2025 21:06

I've just eaten my children's Easter eggs, too 🤭 Just because they've forgotten them doesn't mean I have...

honeyfox · 23/04/2025 21:09

As a kid I used to steal from myself! Mum would get them in the last two weeks of Lent (catholic) and you could invert the bottom to get the egg out and then retrieve the sweets from the middle, replacing the egg inside and she never knew.

spring252 · 23/04/2025 21:11

YABVU to think that there is something wrong with this.

I don’t think a kid knows the difference between expensive chocolate and it’s cheaper counterpart…..wasted on them

GoodQueenBess · 23/04/2025 21:22

You stole from a young child. You thief!

ScottishEggs · 23/04/2025 21:28

Vinvertebrate · 23/04/2025 19:49

The egg my DS got on Sunday was the third identical one I had actually purchased for him. 🫣

Sounds like me and DH's bottles of merlot.

RobertaFirmino · 23/04/2025 21:29

Wow. Just wow.

I can't believe you actually allow your child to eat chocolate. Have you any idea how much chemicals and fat it contains? And then there's the packaging. All that waste. My own darling children had a great time painting their wooden eggs with natural plant based dyes. Then they were treated to a small carob and chia seed flapjack.

Do better.

AppleBlossomMay · 23/04/2025 21:31

😁 I'm sure he was pleased with his Easter eggs, the more expensive, better tasting one would be wasted on him. Far better you appreciate its
superior quality!

TortolaParadise · 23/04/2025 21:32

Next year you can do it all over again.

GingerPaste · 23/04/2025 21:33

I bought my friend a Lindt bunny - but we couldn’t meet up as planned, so I’ll have the bunny (and not mention it to him). 😋
