To just want nice toilets

PicaK · 22/04/2025 11:40

Honestly - toilets should all be unisex and completely self contained (floor to ceiling) , lockable with a wash basin in there, a hook for bags and room for a toddler and lots of loo paper.
With glass doors for the entry into the toilet area.
Then all this worry about who else is using them would stop.

Floor to ceiling doors are not safe, what if someone has a seizure?

Have you ever seen an accessible toilet?

Or wants to harm themselves/use drugs or whatever?

Unisex toilets are grim! My toilets at home aren't much better (DH & DS are seemingly both a terrible aim) 🤣

overtothere · 22/04/2025 11:46

I hate standing in a queue with only men waiting for the single stalls. Then there's piss covered seats. Then the men's inevitable farting and grunting. I'm AuDHD with PTSD and sensory processing disorder and it makes me physically sick. I don't feel particularly comfortable in a stall right beside them. I prefer a private space or one where only women go.

Ddakji · 22/04/2025 11:46

Unisex toilets have been proven to be less safe for women and girls, so no, this isn’t the solution.

You don’t think women fart in toilets?

doodahdayy · 22/04/2025 11:49

Women also piss on the seats and don’t clean up their shit properly in female toilets but I do think they should be kept single sex for safety purposes. Glass doors won’t cut it.

gamerchick · 22/04/2025 11:52

We have mixed sex toilets at work. It's shit sharing with blokes.

What's with the handprints on the wall above the toilet? Do men lean and dangle?

They get cleaned off but come back.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 22/04/2025 11:52

At my local cinema, there are two sets of single sex loos (men and women’s), two disabled loos, and one set of unisex, which have the required floor to ceiling doors and walls and handwashing facilities inside. All of them are kept clean, well-stocked and maintained. I like the unisex ones particularly when I’m with my 10 year old DS, as I get nervous sending him into the gents alone, but think he’s too old to be accompanying me into the ladies.

Third unisex spaces, in addition to single sex toilets which are kept single sex, should be mandatory in all public spaces.

Sheeparelooseagain · 22/04/2025 11:53

"Have you ever seen an accessible toilet?"

Accessible toilets have an emergency cord so one of those would need to be put in.

Ideally there should be a mixture of single sex facilities and individual unisex facilities.

Cookiebix · 22/04/2025 11:57

I do think there is a place for unisex toilets, but not at the expense of single sex places

MerlinsBeard1 · 22/04/2025 11:57

Imagine how intimidating it would be to go into a pub toilet for example and have to queue with 15 pissed up blokes leering at you. No thanks.

Sheeparelooseagain · 22/04/2025 12:01

I still encounter places where the only accessible toilets are in single sex facilities. That needs addressing.

Ah yes, with the obligatory 'please do not piss with the door open' signs, because, well...men....

And this is funny because?

FigTreeInEurope · 22/04/2025 12:20

I don't want women in our toilets with their scented candles and pot pouri. We'll take the fellas in dresses, and they can live with their life choices.

I have epilepsy & at times have had up to 10 seizures in a day.
I can assure you it's not funny at all.
Enclosed toilets are a very real risk as someone with epilepsy would not be able to use an emergency cord.

What a vile comment.
I know someone who died having a seizure in a toilet.
No it wasn't funny. It was tragic.

I just want nice holidays so to each their own I guess.

Our nearest M & S Food used to have separate men's and women's toilets. Then they ripped them out and there are now 4 "unisex" and 2 disabled. Every time I've gone to use one of the (not disabled - haven't looked in those) they're absolutely filthy and awash with piss. The women's NEVER used to be.

Is you loo at home open for public use?

Sharing a bathroom with a husband who you can tell to wipe the piss off the seat if he leaves a dribble is different to walking into a stall after Joe Bloggs has pebble dashed the pan. Public toilets are grim as it is, being unisex is just dreadful.
