Mine isn’t at all…in looks or personality

This obviously isn’t a problem at all, my Dd is adorable & amazing. Did anyone else have a picture in their mind of how you thought your dc may be and they’re completely different? In every sense?

My DD looks like me but has her Dad’s traits. DS looks like DH but has my traits.

My DD looks like me but has her Dad’s traits. DS looks like DH but has my traits.

Is it unusual if they didn’t look like the mum or have any personality traits?

DC is pretty much what I’d imagine would happen if you put me and DH in a cocktail shaker. In terms of both looks and personality. It’s super entertaining to see how our traits manifest.

familyissues12345 · 06/04/2025 22:27

DS1 looks like a mix between me and his Dad. Personality wise, he’s not really like either of us. Weirdly he’s a little like my husband, his stepdad, which I find quite fascinating - real Nature vs Nurture!

DS2 used to be the spit of his Dad, but as he’s got older he looks more like me. Personality wise he’s very like me. Very happy go lucky and a bit daft! Has a heart of gold. I’m very biased but I’ve never met such a lovely lad

moderndilemma · 06/04/2025 22:27

2 dc. They are like my alter egos. One is the extrovert part of me, one is the introvert. One is organised, one is not. Facially they are different, but they both have my eyes.

Difficile · 06/04/2025 22:29

Eldest is definitely just me, but smaller. Although she has her Dad's hair and chin. Too soon to say for the babies.

LavenderBlue19 · 06/04/2025 22:32

DS looks more like me (and even more like my dad), but personality isn't like either of us. His brain is purely DP - very good at maths.

Therewasacat · 06/04/2025 22:32

Yes and he has taught me about myself.

MargaretThursday · 06/04/2025 22:34

Dd1 looks a mix, personality dh
Dd2 my side all the way
D's looks dh, personality I think my dad.

WhatMe123 · 06/04/2025 22:34

Dd1 looks like do but is very similar to me in personality, dd2 looks like my mum and brother and is nothing like either of me and dp personality wise 😂

My adult child was born to me (dark hair, green eyes) and her father (blond hair, blue eyes).

They are grey eyed, blond haired. They don't look like me, but I recognise my personality traits (good and bad) in them.

I look nothing like my sister. She looks like my mum, I look like my Dad. Yet, years ago someone I worked with saw sister on a train, and asked if a relative of mine used this particular train, because they'd seen someone (my sister) who strongly reminded them of me. When I asked what had reminded them of me, they said it was the way this person stood, talked and gesticulated.

So I guess looks are only a small part of who we are, or who we appear to be to others.

Moonlaserbearwolf · 06/04/2025 22:39

How old is your child? Both of mine look quite like me, but personality wise seemed very different when they were you get. As they got older I saw many more similarities.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 06/04/2025 22:39

DS looks like DH but with my colouring,my interests and my work ethic.

DD looks nothing like me but has a similar personality. She is far brighter than me though.

Buttonknot · 06/04/2025 22:41

DS1 looks like DH and is similar to him in personality. DD is more of a mixture of the two of us. DS2 is a bit like DH in looks, but isn't really like either of us in personality.

No , I don’t think so, sometimes you just get a unique kid who doesnt fit any ‘mould’.

LoveSandbanks · 06/04/2025 22:46

When they were younger they were all spitting image of their dad but as they’ve got older, they look more like me, particularly the oldest. Personality wise oldest is more like me - stubborn and quick tempered, middle is a summer like his dad. Youngest has a very sunny disposition unlike any of us 🤣

Ladamesansmerci · 06/04/2025 22:46

My 10mo DD looks very similar to how I looked as a baby, and it's obvious she's my baby. Personality is yet to be determined 😁

Stirfries · 06/04/2025 22:52

The only thing of mine he seem to me to have is a certain trick of expressions, and really brilliant facial recognition.

An actor in a supporting role in one film he saw several years ago reappearing on a panel show three stone heavier or lighter, bald, different facial hair and accent, and DS and I will immediately know him. DH will stare at us bemused and say ‘Who? Nope, never saw him before in my life’.

(My proudest facial recognition moment recently was recognising a Danish actor in a supporting role in Kobra Kai last seen advertising Statoil in Irish tv in the early 90s.)

Cece92 · 06/04/2025 22:54

My daughter was my copy and paste as a baby, except I had black spikey hair and she had black curly hair. She’s mixed raise by has my white skin. She’s 11 now and is a white copy & paste of her dad 🤦🏻‍♀️ she has his legs, but my upper half of the body in terms of shape. Personality wise she’s me through & through much to her dads annoyance 😂 funnily enough her wee brother through her dad and stepmom is her image when she was his age (9 months) she does have my mannerisms and facial expressions. The only difference is I’m quite direct and straight to the point no nonsense and she’s really soft and chicken hearted. X

Pieceofpurplesky · 06/04/2025 22:58

I think DS was created without any influence from his father. He is the spitting image of me, acts like me, had a temper and personality like me … lucky really as his dad is a deadbeat who he hardly sees!

takealettermsjones · 06/04/2025 23:00

None of my kids look anything like me, but both my daughters have my exact personality! Too soon to tell really with my son but he seems more like his dad so far.

TheM55 · 06/04/2025 23:00

One. All adults now. One in five (child 4) looks like me at same age, now 20, and is like me. I sometimes quite like the personality traits of the others (better), but I do completely understand that One.

Thepossibility · 06/04/2025 23:01

Two of mine take after DH and his side of the family exactly and my other one is my brother all over. None of them look related to me or have my personality or mannerisms at all. I assumed my genes would be stronger/dominant with the darker hair and eyes but no. All blonde hair and blue eyes.

boysmuminherts · 06/04/2025 23:03

My 2 are nothing like me, nor DH. The eldest looks a bit like me though.
