Mine isn’t at all…in looks or personality

This obviously isn’t a problem at all, my Dd is adorable & amazing. Did anyone else have a picture in their mind of how you thought your dc may be and they’re completely different? In every sense?

Yes, my daughter is very like me, looks and mannerisms, not personality, she is sweet, I was streetwise at her age.

DS looks like DD but has DH big build.

UpToMyElbowsInDiapers · 14/08/2025 05:03

My eldest, absolutely. I see my best and my worst in her. It’s uncanny at times.

BengalBangle · 14/08/2025 05:34

DD1 is the spitting image of her father's Mum, but has my hair. She is very like me in personality. She gets along better with her father, though.
DD2 looks nothing like me or her Dad. It was like giving birth to my mother: she even has nigh on identical hair. Luckily, she is absolutely nothing like my mother was in terms of character. In this respect, she is unlike any of us. Very much her own person and she doesn't have much in common with either her father or me. She has an air of calm the rest of us lack.
They're only 7 (twins) and I love watching them grow into these individual beings.

SlashBeef · 14/08/2025 06:25

None of mine are like me. Or maybe they're all just little bits of me?
One is smart, sensible and exasperated by people. Think Saffy from Ab Fab. One has been like a tortured soul from a Bronte novel from birth, wafting around the place looking disappointed and concerned but quite beautiful (didn't get it from me). Number three is an absolute hippy. Survives on apples and sunlight and is rarely fully clothed and the "baby" is extremely forthright and confident with a tendency to aggression.
It's quite fascinating to watch the varied personalities from the same gene pool!
They do look like siblings but not very much like me or their dad.

purplespink · 14/08/2025 06:28

Yes, my DS both looks and is very much like me whereas DD both looks and is very much like her dad, I find it crazy how they’re basically copies of us albeit the opposite gender. No idea yet about DD2 (7 weeks) Grin

purplespink · 14/08/2025 06:30

Also, DD1 looks so unlike me that a lot of people don’t realise I’m her mum, she has 0 of my features.

Focusispower · 14/08/2025 06:42

My kids facially and colouring-wise (skin tone, hair and eye colour) totally take after me. DD in particular is a mini me and everyone always says this, but DS looked a lot like her when he was a baby too. I can see bits of DH in them but it’s funny things like eyebrow shape, hair crown, head shape on DS. It isn’t the things people notice first glance! What’s also funny is that DD looks more like one of DHs brothers than him!

My MIL managed to have 4 kids who all look like versions of their dad so she regularly commends me for overcoming those strong genes!! 😆 DH has gifted them his height and his long legs though.

Personality wise - Dd is me and DS is DH.

DesperatelySeekingHelp · 14/08/2025 06:44

Eldest DS is the image of his dad but has my personality. Youngest DS looks like me but has his dad’s personality.

Twodogsisbetterthanone · 14/08/2025 06:51

My eldest has his dads personality, he looks like him and talks like him, which considering he barely saw him growing up, maybe twice a year, is quite interesting.
my daughter has her dads face on my body, and my younger son has my face on his dads body.

No , I don’t think so, sometimes you just get a unique kid who doesnt fit any ‘mould’.

I find it fascinating how traits are passed down.

When you think you have a unique child, they often look like an ancestor a few generations back.

Horsie · 14/08/2025 07:11

Folks, what's it like to have a kid who looks a lot like you? Is it weird?

NancyJoan · 14/08/2025 07:12

DD is like I have been cloned. Same face, same body, same brain.

DS has my features, but with DH’s colouring, and has the same sort of personality as him too.

Yes! Apparently I'm very similar to a great Aunt. To the point where an uncle who lived abroad was very taken aback when meeting me for the first time.

Wow, sounds like you gave him quite a turn! 🤣👻

OhDorWheresthesalad · 14/08/2025 07:53

DD is nothing like me in terms of appearance and only bits of me are apparent in personality. Unfortunately, the other 90% is totally her father.

JG24 · 14/08/2025 12:58

I always loved my eyes and thought they were the most 'me' thing about me (if that makes sense)
My daughter looks just like me except for her eyes which are completely different! It still surprises me when I see photos of her

It's really weird
When you look at them or photos of them it feels like you're looking at yourself and it's like when you catch sight of yourself in a mirror unexpectedly

EmeraldShamrock000 · 14/08/2025 13:23

I read a quote on Mumsnet years ago "your real DC are nothing like your imagery DC".

I never thought my Daughter would be an emo, meet school friends for board games, extremely polite and kind, very nervous, hasn't had a boyfriend, despite growing up in the same area.

At her age, I was street smart, was a bit wild, drinking, partying, sex.

She is more than I could ever wish for. 🥰

I'm glad her life is peaceful.

DS is more like me, only extremely grumpy.

Energy levels, nothing like me, they're low energy, love to be lazy.
I cannot sit still.

Looks, DS is the image of DH, DD is like me at her age, minus the pink hair and clip on earrings.

That's what I imagined it would be like! It sounds cool too, though. 💖

Yes it is odd you catch yourself thinking I look really good/thin there or I don’t remember that and then the realisation hits you!

People have also stopped us in the street to say how alike we look!

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 14/08/2025 17:36

I was quite a laid back child who was content to sit and play with toys or watch the television. I was good at following adults’ instructions and never tried to run away or go off on my own. I was an early talker. My parents could have a full conversation with me at 18 months old. But I was delayed with physical milestones like learning to walk and run, which was probably part of the reason I was good at sitting still. I hated cuddles for some reason and would try to escape or look away if my mum tried to give me any affection.

My son is 2 and so far is nothing like me. He does look a lot like me physically but personally-wise is completely different. He is hyperactive and never sits still. He wants to run everywhere and climb everything. He doesn’t listen to a word I say. He can say quite a lot of words but not consistently and I can’t have a conversation with him at all. He doesn’t tell me what he needs and just whinges until I guess. But he is lovely and affectionate and initiates cuddles with me all the time. From what my in-laws have told me, I think he mostly takes after my husband.

Also I think it makes you like yourself more. My child has inherited a physical flaw of mine. Nothing too awful but obvious enough that most people in my life have commented at one stage or another (think weird ears or something like that). Now I look at her with the same feature and think she looks adorable, so it makes me smile when I catch sight of the same "flaw" on me.

OneTwoThreeSneeze · 14/08/2025 21:41

My son is so similar I feel that he has taught me about myself.

Screamingabdabz · 14/08/2025 21:45

My three kids are a weird mix of me and my DH. One of my kids has all my worst traits and it’s definitely affected how I related to them growing up. I have serious mum guilt now.

Op- are you sure your DC wasn’t mixed up at birth? 😉

Imaggine · 14/08/2025 21:45

DS
Looks - an exact mix of me and DH
Personality - mainly me, sorry kid! It’s really quite humbling seeing some of your traits crop up in the next generation. Excellent facial expressions are a good thing I’ve shared. Over-sensitivity may be something we should work on together…

DD
Looks - nothing like me, very similar to DH, almost identical to my SIL as a child
Personality - 💯 from her aunt. I’m terrified

Baby
Looks - very similar to DS as a baby
Personality - too soon to say, but seems to be the most placid baby alive, so am hoping this means more DH than me 😂
