Mine isn’t at all…in looks or personality

This obviously isn’t a problem at all, my Dd is adorable & amazing. Did anyone else have a picture in their mind of how you thought your dc may be and they’re completely different? In every sense?

Neither of my DDs look like their dad. Dd1 is very similar in personality to her maternal grandma - v academic and quite rigid in her thinking. Artistic and loves art and history.

dd2 looks like her maternal grandma as a child and also like me. Personality wise she is much more confident than I was as a child and breezes through life and school. She is very strong and dances and does acrobatics with ease which none of her family do. She is emotionally sensitive like me though.

my DDs seem to find life far easier and more enjoyable than me and I’m so glad. They are nothing like their dad personality wise either and I doubt he would disagree.

I have a ds and a dd, both late teens. Dd is like an absolute cross between me and dh in terms of personality and doesn't look like either of us much. She looks more like other members of the extended family. Ds has my colouring and hair but otherwise looks more like dh. Personality-wise he's really like dh's brother!

PeepDeBeaul · 14/08/2025 21:54

DD looks like my mini me. DS looks like his dad. DD has ADHD like me. Alas I'm mathematical, logical and rational....she's an arty, airy, creative. Loves Drama and dance and sees beauty in paintings and murals. Dad and I see beauty in arcitecture, machinary and elegant solutions to problems. She's the parts of our DNA that neither her dad or I are using!

DS has severe learning difficulties and processing problems. His love language isn't Hugs like mine, it's his cheek and wit. His interests are Lego and Minecraft. He's not like me at all.

I love the fact they're their own ppl. Done my job right.

DD looks similar to me, DS looks a hybrid of DH and my brother ha!

DD is sporty like me and science mad like DH and myself. She's got my strong work ethic and my temper.
DS is very hands on, was building things in pre school ahead of his age. He is more like DH in that respect. I can't see any of my traits in DS actually thinking about it. I'm looking forward to starting scouting together next month as something we have to do together.

Didimum · 14/08/2025 22:12

Yes, they both look like me and have my traits.

I read that the first born is who you are and the youngest isnt the person you want to be

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 14/08/2025 22:54

Nope, there’s a few bits we have in common but personality wise we’re very different.

BourgeoisBabe · 14/08/2025 23:07

My DS is adopted and totally unlike me or my husband. It's been a learning curve!

hoohaal · 14/08/2025 23:22

My eldest has the same sense of humour as me, but is the opposite of me in every other way. She’s loud, outgoing, energetic, loves new experiences. Has a real zest for life. She is everything I wish I was!!

My youngest has a different sense of humour to me, but is very similar to me in every other way. She’s quiet, doesn’t enjoy the company of large groups, is happy on her own, scared of new experiences etc. I do feel sorry for her that this has clearly passed on from me.

Also I think it makes you like yourself more. My child has inherited a physical flaw of mine. Nothing too awful but obvious enough that most people in my life have commented at one stage or another (think weird ears or something like that). Now I look at her with the same feature and think she looks adorable, so it makes me smile when I catch sight of the same "flaw" on me.

Awww, that's so sweet - and also very cool!

Meandmyguy · 15/08/2025 15:20

One of my is my double and she's going to college to do Accountancy, same as me.

My son not a bit and my other daughter, well you wouldn't think I was her mother at all.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 15/08/2025 15:21

DD looked much more like me when she was little, but as a 17yo she's the spitting image of DP aside from her colouring.

Personality-wise she's much more like me, including some facets that I wish she hadn't inherited unfortunately

TreeDudette · 15/08/2025 15:21

Mine was the dead spit of her dad when she was a baby. She grew up looking like him and I didn't see any of my mannerisms in her... until recently. As a teen she is now very like me. They grow and change.
