Mine isn’t at all…in looks or personality

This obviously isn’t a problem at all, my Dd is adorable & amazing. Did anyone else have a picture in their mind of how you thought your dc may be and they’re completely different? In every sense?

Our son looks like my simply by coincidence, he has a very similar personality to me, quite quiet and a bit awkward. Our daughter is so similar to my husband in her personality, outgoing, loud etc, she has all of his mannerisms too.

autisticbookworm · 07/04/2025 05:08

eldest looks like her dad and unfortunately is very similar to ex mil (who she is very close to) middle one looks like and is v similar to me. Younger is just like his dad.

AllotmentTime · 07/04/2025 05:40

DD is a mix of me and DH. I reeeeeally see myself in her when she gets annoyed 😂 she has lots in common with both of us.

DS has my inherent optimism and cheerfulness, but then has an extrovert personality that the rest of us find frankly bewildering 🤣

Looks wise they are a good mix of both of us. I also see my DGM in DS, which I love.

Ollybob · 07/04/2025 05:58

DD looks like me mostly, although there are quite a few of my mum's personality traits that I see in her which is interesting!

Natsku · 07/04/2025 06:01

DD looks like a mix between me and her dad, more her dad though. She has my sense of humour for sure and some of my personality traits but not a lot.
DS is a carbon copy of his dad looks wise and has many of the same mannerisms but in other ways he reminds me a lot of his uncle when he was a child (and has the same obsession with origami!)

Sue1952 · 07/04/2025 06:13

We are both dark haired blue eyes. One son has blonde hair, dark skin and hazel eyes, our daughter has blonde hair blue eyes. Neither look much like either of us.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 07/04/2025 06:49

I think my dd looks more like dh, with elements of me thrown in.

In terms of personality, she is incredibly similar to me, but kind of like the new and improved version. She has all of my strengths but only some of my weaknesses. With a few of DH's strengths in the mix as well.

In many ways, she is the better version of myself that I always aspired to be but never quite managed!

We have very similar thought processes, to the extent that it is actually quite freaky at times!

Vettrianofan · 07/04/2025 08:25

Nope, not like eldest DS at all. He is smoking vapes and cigarettes. Complete opposite of myself growing up. Also drinking during day time hours. No, we are very different people. It's been stressful raising teenagers.

BumpyaDaisyevna · 07/04/2025 08:39

My DD is more like her dad in looks and traits but has similar interests to me. She’s planning to do the same A Levels I did and wants to do the same subject at uni that I did. However she is also v artistic (and that she certainly does not get from me). Also very interested in clothes and jewellery, much more so than me.

my DS is more like me in looks and traits (poor lad) but has similar interests to DH. He wants to be a fighter pilot and is obsessed with theme parks and mountain biking 🤣

itbemay1 · 07/04/2025 08:41

My DS is just like his step sister. Looks just like her and his personality and mannerisms are similar. His voice is the same as his uncles so much so that his cousins thought he was their dad on the phone. His step sister looks like her mum! It’s so strange. My DD looks like me but has a very different personality/style and outlook.

AlphaRadiationIsHeliumNuclei · 07/04/2025 08:42

I'm 50 and my mother still hasn't come to terms with the simple fact that I'm not an extrovert party loving person like she is.

So well done those of you who actually know your children!

peanutForever · 07/04/2025 08:47

DS is a copy and paste of DH as a child (however DH does not look like himself as a child now that hes an adult)

He has a slightly darker skintone (from me) and dimples and my eyes but proportions etc are all DH and i expect he has softer versions of his features.

He is 3 so i imagine as he gets older and goes through puberty etc he will most likely turn into DH and his softer features will become more manly.

Have been told by several family members he acts just like DH as a child, he is very cheeky sweet and a typical boy with addrd addition that he is ND (ASD/suspected ADHD) which he has definitely inherited from me! (I am undiagnosed but something there) i always find it weird that hes turned out exactly how i thought he would? I always imagined him being this way

It can get even sillier — my mother is a timid, withdrawn person with few friends. As a result, she spent our entire childhoods trying to force us into social situations, clearly desperately wanting her five children to be popular and continually surrounded by people, despite modelling the opposite, and getting absolutely furious any time one of us refused an invitation or said no to someone, because in her eyes, that would mean no one would like you.

In fact we’re all adults with strong longterm friendships, good social lives, and good people around us, but she’s frustrated and baffled, because she doesn’t understand why people like us when we don’t people-please, and why our social lives don’t look the way she thinks they “should’.

mondaytosunday · 07/04/2025 08:50

I don’t think I expected anything in particular. My kids are a mix - and my DD is so much like my sister at times it’s scary!

Inastatus · 07/04/2025 09:16

ThisFluentBiscuit · 07/04/2025 02:19

What's it like having a kid who looks like you? Is it a bit weird to see what you actually look like, if you see what I mean?!

@ThisFluentBiscuit 😅 she doesn’t look the same as me now but rather just reminds me of my younger self. She has the same blonde hair, same shaped nose, similar eyes and features.

GreenCandleWarmth · 07/04/2025 09:24

Pyschique is more mine- slim and long bodied not stocky like his dad. Eyes are mine but darker. He's about 70 percent looks wise me and my dad. Personality more positive than me though lol.

YellowHatt · 07/04/2025 11:08

@Series3issodull could it be that you don’t see the similarities but others would?

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 07/04/2025 11:13

None of my five look like me. Three look like my mum and two look like their dad. Only one has my blue eyes, the others all have brown eyes. Two are shorter and stockier (my mum's family) three are taller and thin (their dad's side).

One has my AuDHD, the others are NT (as far as anyone can tell). All thankfully escaped my ineptitude with numbers, but only one got the ability with words. They are all absolute crackers.

I look like my dad.

hazelnutvanillalatte · 07/04/2025 11:20

They all have different aspects of me in them but they are all different

theruffles · 07/04/2025 11:43

DC1 looks like DH and his mum. She also has DH's whole personality.
DC2 looks a little more like me but mostly like my dad and brother. He has my temper 😅

Burngreave · 07/04/2025 11:45

DD is good looking, bright, full of energy, enthusiastic, and well dressed.

So no.

Hoppinggreen · 07/04/2025 11:45

DS is very like me personality wise but DD is quiet diiferent
I don't think either of them really look like me, although sometimes in photos I see a flash of myself

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 07/04/2025 11:49

Mine are both way smarter than me. Dd1 looks like her dad, blonde with fair skin, dd2 looks the spits of me with dark hair and olive skin.

stanleypops66 · 07/04/2025 18:54

My dd doesn’t look like me or have my personality traits.

LimeLime · 07/04/2025 20:25

My DD as a child was the spitting image of me as a child but now she is an adult I can see certain features of her father in her jawline and body type and she takes after him in her complete uselessness at any sport, but in every other way she is mini me; introverted, academic, musical, for her size like me she has big hands and feet, but unlike me she is otherwise petite. We have a rather dark sense of humour, and we used to sound exactly alike until she went down south to work. We get on really well and I count myself very fortunate indeed to be her mum.
