Raining... didn't have umbrella!

Crocsforlife · 03/04/2025 00:02

Grandpa died for the 5th time

Saphire123 · 03/04/2025 00:03

Can't walk because feet are blistered badly....it was true.
I had been unsuccesfully hitchhiking to get from Manchester to Blackpool.

KenAdams · 03/04/2025 00:04

He didn't ring in, we had to call him because he hadn't turned up. He thought it was Saturday...

MyNameIsAlexDrake · 03/04/2025 00:06

This was actually mine. “ I was attacked by an iguana and in A&E having stitches and a tetanus”
I went into work after I was patched up though. Had to wear a hairband for about 6 months until my fringe grew back in!

CountryMumof4 · 03/04/2025 00:06

Their car wouldn't start - they live about 5 mins walk from our office, have no physical difficulties and no appointments further afield they needed to attend.

Rat stuck in sofa.

not feral rat. A fancy rat.

had to cut the sofa open to get the bugger out.

Isittimeformynapyet · 03/04/2025 00:11

He didn't have money for the bus to work.

He'd posted his new half sleeve tattoo on social media.

Cattenberg · 03/04/2025 00:12

In one place I worked, a young colleague rang in to say that she couldn’t come in as she was really drunk.

Luckily for her, the manager saw the funny side and said “at least you’re honest”.

Difficile · 03/04/2025 00:14

Her rabbit had to go to the dentist...

MrsRuthFisher · 03/04/2025 00:17

Someone called off at my previous place of work because they'd had a bad dream 🤣

EVHead · 03/04/2025 00:25

He didn’t have any socks. He’d washed some but they weren’t dry yet.

mrsfollowill · 03/04/2025 00:27

I hate the quivering 'poorly voice' and the having to rush off as they are going to vomit- no Steve you put on Facebook last night about the epic night out you were having and a pic of your kebab at 2 am- that is why you are feeling sick!
Cannot stand the duvet day thing where people need a day off for no reason- we need to go back to getting on with life! Yes some days are shit but you don't get to hide away from it. You are just postponing stuff.

Iamuhtredsonofuhtred · 03/04/2025 00:28

When I was a student I once called in sick because I took a load of acid the night before and underestimated how long the effects would last. Luckily my manager was a friend and I didn’t get fired!

Tbf, if a rabbit has overgrown teeth, it can be very serious, and will usually require urgent treatment.

queenofthesuburbs · 03/04/2025 00:32

Her dog was on heat!

I felt awful ringing in with food poisoning because of stuff like that
I I had campylobacter and had been shitting every 15 mins for 7 days, tried to WFH and ended up up in hospital. But when you say food poisoning people think it’s a 1 day thing! It’s 7 months on now and I haven’t touched chicken since

Beachbodyready · 03/04/2025 00:46

Same person - his wife had locked him in the house accidentally and on a separate occasion he’d spilt his breakfast on his only work trousers and couldn’t come in wearing jeans as he had an important meeting that day.

Shinysparklysquirrel · 03/04/2025 02:05

Had to get their car MOT sorted... they worked 2 days a week and booked it in on a working day.

HolidayHattie · 03/04/2025 02:39

Couldn't afford the bus (or might have been train) fare. He had had a season ticket loan from the employer (cost of annual ticket paid to employee then 1/12 taken out of salary each month.)

That’s actually quite endearing in a way!

Her dog was on heat!

Was she trying to breed with it?

Jaggy1 · 03/04/2025 03:05

Used to work with a woman who phoned in all the time. The last straw was when she was scheduled for a 12.5 hr shift and phoned in the morning to say ‘I’m not coming in today, I have a feeling I’m gonna be ill today’, cut to 2pm backshift time she phones again to say ‘sorry I’m actually fine today do you want me to come in now?’

PoopingAllTheWay · 03/04/2025 03:14

I was still drunk from the night before,
I couldnt lie as it was the managers leaving do and everyone was there
I was 16 and had been downing pints with the guys
When i went back to work the next day, The New Manager just said ‘Maybe dont get so drunk on the next party when you have work the next day and laughed’

MinnieMountain · 03/04/2025 06:13

She was snowed in. When told that a colleague who lived on the same street was already at work, she magically made it in.
