Shit holiday

Just want a moan really.
Arrived yesterday to thunderstorms and down pour which looks like it will continue on the rest of the week.
With DH, 8 year old SS and 1 year old DD. I'm sitting in the room in darkness and silence while she has a nap while DH and SS are going between indoor pool and arcade.

Just boring and crap so far.

How do I make it better if the weather doesn't improve? Wine?

Is it just too cold for pool/sunbathing or just completely not outside weather at all?

Not sure of distance from you but is the land or legends theme park open? Not as weather focused as pool/beach etc and they have a shopping complex type bit too.

FrenchandSaunders · 02/04/2025 13:00

I'm thinking NY as well.

Disappointing OP, esp with kids. We've had holidays like this but pre children and spent the time shagging and drinking. Can't really do that with an 8 year old and a 1 year old.

ghostyslovesheets · 02/04/2025 13:03

South of France one late June - hired a little house with a pool - me, ex, 2 under 3 and my parents

saw Carcassonne in the rain, the safari park in the rain , the beach in the rain - there were frogs in the lovely swimming pool.

one nice day we head off in convoy to visit friends in Bezier - mum leads the way in her car, we followed - dd2 proceeded to projectile vomit everywhere - we stop at a truck stop mum happily drives on - wash child down under tap, attempt to wash car seat - decide to head home only mum has the keys!

thankfully she drove back and found us - it then rained the rest of the week!

Papercup · 02/04/2025 13:04

This reminds me of years ago, pre kids, my DH and I went island hopping around Croatia. We stopped at a tiny tiny island and the weather turned. All ferries were cancelled for 4 days and we were stuck on the island in biblical weather. There was one little local bars and we just drank ourselves silly for 4 days.

BBC weather app shows that it should be a nicer day tomorrow OP!

For all the people saying what did we expect at this time of year, well we obviously didn't expect it to be as hot as summer but the thunderstorms and heavy rain wasn't something we would expect, it's just been very unlucky.

I've been away with just SS before and as long as he can get in a pool, he is happy. Not a fan of a kids club as he is quite shy so he rely on DH to play with him rather than making friends. Obviously in previous years this wasn't an issue as I would be quite happy to drink cocktails, sunbathe and read my book but now I'm stuck in baby prison 😂

is there no facility for the baby to go to a kids club/creche?

Do the hotel run any trips that might be fun?

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 02/04/2025 13:08

Someone I know is in Antalya and has posted on FB that the weather is due to improve from Thursday, cross your fingers he's right.
In the meantime, indoor pool and drinks.

sandrapinchedmysandwich · 02/04/2025 13:10

You have my sympathy op. All those saying "What do you expect" are being massively unhelpful. It should be better than this.

Tomorrow looks better op. Then hopefully the next few days after that will have more patchy rain and sunny spells.

It's pretty bad at the moment. We were soaked to the skin getting from the airport to coach transfers yesterday so we've not braved outside yet.

There is a creche but I'm quite apprehensive about using it since she's so young. She's only just turned 1 and isn't walking yet.
We did check out the kids club for SS and it does look pretty cool tbf. Far superior to the cringe ones of the 90s that I remember. Rooms full of pool tables and play stations etc.

If you’re by chance in SENSATORI I would use the crèche!

Crikeyalmighty · 02/04/2025 13:15

@Papercup we once were due to fly out on a split/hvar combination in 2016 and were at the hotel at Gatwick the day before- the forecast was totally abysmal but luckily we still had 2 hours to cancel on booking . Com without charge- so we forfeited our flights (£426) ! Cancelled accommodation and checked where weather looked good and we could get flights- booked ourselves on flights next day to Malaga and went to Marbella for a week - decided we would rather forfeit the flights than have 5 days on an island totally geared up to hot sunny weather in the peeing rain ( and as you say it was biblical levels of rain due apparently)

Crikeyalmighty · 02/04/2025 13:17

@WorkingMum1391 seriously, use the crèche and kids club- it’s shitty for you anyway, but easier to cope with it with some breathing space and a book/drink/ massage etc

OverpricedCupcake · 02/04/2025 13:18

I also want to know the vibrant boring city!

WorkingMum1391 · 02/04/2025 13:20

pinkyredrose · 02/04/2025 12:51

Why are you sitting in darkness and silence?

Because the baby was napping and she only sleeps under a very specific set of conditions at the moment.

See, I was thinking New York.

But I'd put money on it being Dubai, because that actually is shit!

Yes, agree!!!

Clearinguptheclutter · 02/04/2025 13:32

feel for you .DH went to Istanbul last week when it was nice here. Two days before he left it was 22 degrees. When he got there it was 4 degrees and actually snowing. It would appear this time of year in Turkey can't be reliable.

rivalsbinge · 02/04/2025 13:35

curious79 · 02/04/2025 10:59

We’re currently in one of the world’s considered most vibrant cities and I’m
bored to bits and want to go home. The teens are bored of it too - just DH who continues to be interested and because of the vast money he has spent we can’t admit it

Where are you?

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 02/04/2025 13:37

Well you are making it a shit holiday aren’t you. People live there all the time when it rains so explore alternatives to what you had planned. Put the baby in a buggy and off you go.

Fullcircle90 · 02/04/2025 13:42

Ugh that’s so disappointing.

Did you pay a lot?

What a weird take. People who live there have jobs to go to, family and friends to visit, a tv and toys for their kids. OP is entitled to a bit of a moan!

tobee · 02/04/2025 13:45

Hey the weather says nice for tomorrow in Antalya ☀️🌞and a bit mixed at the weekend. At least it's not sweltering and you have to worry about sun burn and heat rash. Let's hope it perks up a bit.

Ds has just gone away for a few days and it's forecast rain and much colder than here. You can never predict. I've got a holiday booked in this country and the weather will probably be shite it's a downer.

It's all a bit of a shock going away with small children first time.

Blackcountrychik83 · 02/04/2025 13:46

It’s all over tik tok about Turkey weather atm and some people are ACTUALLY booking flights to come home 😂
I mean how ridiculous have you got to be to spend all that money to be put off by the rain enough to spend more money coming home . People just can’t seem to amuse themselves anymore unless it’s not perfect conditions .

Sometimes a holiday is great just because you’re not at work, or juggling home chores, washing, cleaning and cooking.
i think sometimes it takes a few days to wind down if you’re always on the go. There can also be a bit of initial disappointment due to expectations as you get used to a slower pace. Just lying with your baby, having a doze, listening to an audio book, reading a kindle, doing some stretching, WhatsApping a friend watching something on your phone with headphones in.. can be pleasurable when you’re not thinking about what to cook or an up and coming work meeting.
Hope you treasure some time with family and living in the moment @WorkingMum1391 xx

Twilightstarbright · 02/04/2025 13:56

Sympathies @WorkingMum1391 we’ve been there! Booked the Maldives for a big birthday and the monsoon hit two months late and it was torrential rain. DC were bored, no flights home and I guess because it was something we had saved up for for years there were such high expectations!

It will get better- there will be excursions you can do and I would absolutely check out the kids club for both kids- even if you stay with them it’s a change of scenery.

Keeping my fingers crossed that the weather improves for you.

I feel for you. Ex-DH and went on what was supposed to be a two week camping holiday in June travelling around Ireland. It was cold, it rained every day so the tent was wet and muddy all the time, it was a pain to pack up and move every few days, DH electrocuted himself on an electric fence & fell in a river (don't ask😂) and we drove all the way around the Ring of Kerry on a day which started promisingly with sunshine and clear skies but promptly became so foggy that we saw absolutely nothing of the beautiful views. Our will to live disappeared after a week and we went home early.

It was still better than being in work, though!

I have also been camping in Kerry in the summer. after four days of torrential rain we thought fuck it and went home. I lived in Ireland at the time and it was only on my fifth drive around the Ring of Kerry that it was any decent weather at all, most of the time it was foggy as fuck and pissing down. I know it’s gorgeous and all, but I don’t know why people bother most of the time. I always found weather better in west cork.
