Just want a moan really.
Arrived yesterday to thunderstorms and down pour which looks like it will continue on the rest of the week.
With DH, 8 year old SS and 1 year old DD. I'm sitting in the room in darkness and silence while she has a nap while DH and SS are going between indoor pool and arcade.

Just boring and crap so far.

How do I make it better if the weather doesn't improve? Wine?

OP posts:
NotTonightDeidre · 02/04/2025 16:32

We had this in Antalya at a similar time of year. Kids just played out in the rain & I drank cocktails. DH read his book ad he's not a drinker.

You either embrace the break or you let yourself be thoroughly miserable.

Ted27 · 02/04/2025 16:41

@ghostyslovesheets

ikea has been closed for several years

still lots to do in Coventry, in the rain or otherwise

We’re currently in one of the world’s considered most vibrant cities and I’m
bored to bits and want to go home. The teens are bored of it too - just DH who continues to be interested and because of the vast money he has spent we can’t admit it

The thing with New York is you need a bit of a plan before you get here! Tbh we’ve had shit weather this spring, so perhaps you just had high hopes of al fresco dining and cycling through Central Park etc. and instead you’re stuck indoors as it’s been either 10 degrees or 20-25 degrees but rainy the last few weeks. I would just try to enjoy the food as much as you can - it really is unrivalled. Hope your trip improves.

Seriously can you just come home? Wall to wall sunshine and 20c at home for the next two days

Depends where you live. Max 14 in my part of South Yorkshire, but it is sunny.

Am I the only one who did a quick search of PP’s posting history?! It’s somewhere in the US… so I concluded it was New York.

@Papercup we once were due to fly out on a split/hvar combination in 2016 and were at the hotel at Gatwick the day before- the forecast was totally abysmal but luckily we still had 2 hours to cancel on booking . Com without charge- so we forfeited our flights (£426) ! Cancelled accommodation and checked where weather looked good and we could get flights- booked ourselves on flights next day to Malaga and went to Marbella for a week - decided we would rather forfeit the flights than have 5 days on an island totally geared up to hot sunny weather in the peeing rain ( and as you say it was biblical levels of rain due apparently)

This is why I always book my holiday the day before I go (actually last year it was the morning of the day I flew). Then I can look where's sunny and just go there.

Er...no it's not. It's sunny but really quite cold here in Yorkshire. Still got my hat and gloves on.

Crikeyalmighty · 02/04/2025 17:10

@garlictwist yes it’s bit of a punt - but several times since we’ve booked the time off and only booked 3 days before- easier I guess with no longer having kids at home in my case I guess and we are open minded- don’t need kids clubs and that kind of gubbins

SpringHasSprungg · 02/04/2025 17:10

Is there an indoor pool, are there any excursions you could book?

Crikeyalmighty · 02/04/2025 17:12

@Livingbytheocean well it’s very sunny here in Bath but pretty windy and I wouldn’t exactly say warm - I’ve got a denim jacket and boots on

Ah! Well if they're bored in NYC I can't really help them...

Crikeyalmighty · 02/04/2025 17:16

@SunsetCocktails I loved Rome -hectic but the sight seeing was great .i like NY too -

WonderingWanda · 02/04/2025 17:18

I'd be reading my book and asking dh to bring me a cocktail back to the room in that situation.

I can imagine the prospect of a wet holiday is a bit crap though. What about booking a tour or hire car or just local sightseeing? Make use of the kids club and spend some time with dh. Or take turns to have the kids and go for a Spa / Turkish baths. It looks like you will get some sun so not a total disaster.

Bored??? Where are you?

greengreyblue · 02/04/2025 17:25

It’s sunny in U.K. but chilly and windy where I am! It’s winter in the morning and spring in the afternoon. Just enjoy yourself. Kids love wherever they are. Make the most!

SpringHasSprungg · 02/04/2025 17:25

Sightseeing, cable car, bazaar etc for those who want to go. If the other parent doesn’t fancy it they can stay in the hotel with the little one.

Bumcake · 02/04/2025 13:43

What a weird take. People who live there have jobs to go to, family and friends to visit, a tv and toys for their kids. OP is entitled to a bit of a moan!

So people don’t have time off work. There’s nothing else to do there other than holiday resorts? Yes she can moan but she’s wasting her money . You have a choice or make it a challenge that you are still going to have a good time.

babasaclover · 02/04/2025 17:29

Chemenger · 02/04/2025 10:59

Average temperature in Antalya in March is 13 degrees and 16 in April, so it doesn’t seem unseasonal. We considered Turkey in January because it was cheap but it was also cold and wet.

We were there this week last year and was 23-26 every day it was boiling and lovely. You never can tell but Antalya should be good this time of year.

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 02/04/2025 17:31

I’d hire a car and go to some interesting sites. We did this in Lanzarote when we went for a sunny break and it was cold and windy. I became an expert on Cesar Manrique 🤣
We did Rome in a downpour- but still enjoyed it.

WorkingMum1391 · 02/04/2025 12:52

For all the people saying what did we expect at this time of year, well we obviously didn't expect it to be as hot as summer but the thunderstorms and heavy rain wasn't something we would expect, it's just been very unlucky.

I've been away with just SS before and as long as he can get in a pool, he is happy. Not a fan of a kids club as he is quite shy so he rely on DH to play with him rather than making friends. Obviously in previous years this wasn't an issue as I would be quite happy to drink cocktails, sunbathe and read my book but now I'm stuck in baby prison 😂

You were not wrong to expect good weather it was properly hot sunbathing in side Antalya this week last year I was there and needed shade at points!

so sorry for you, is it all inclusive? Crack on the wine - no reasons why not it will help

Guineapiglet2 · 02/04/2025 17:32

Maybe a little head wobble and change of attitude is needed. Youre lucky enough to be on holiday, you've got swimming pools arcades and kids club so your kids are presumably happy? Sunshine would be nicer yeah but sound alike you could be having a good time if you wanted to.

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 02/04/2025 17:36

Also did New York recently and although we had glorious weather (October), there’s so much to do indoors. Fantastic museums, Public Library, go to a show, shop?

VickyEadieofThigh · 02/04/2025 17:38

in 2022 we went to Cyprus at exactly this time of year. We needed coats during the day because it was cold and couldn't do the trip into the mountains we'd really been looking forward to - because there was heavy snow.
