Shit holiday

Just want a moan really.
Arrived yesterday to thunderstorms and down pour which looks like it will continue on the rest of the week.
With DH, 8 year old SS and 1 year old DD. I'm sitting in the room in darkness and silence while she has a nap while DH and SS are going between indoor pool and arcade.

Just boring and crap so far.

How do I make it better if the weather doesn't improve? Wine?

Where are you? We had this in Corfu once in early May. The sun came out intermittently and we had some blustery walks and a trip to a museum. And ate and drank a lot. Good luck!

MentallyDatingDaveGrohl · 02/04/2025 10:54

Where did you book?
research what there is to do in the area so you can make some bad weather plans for days out.

ITurnedMyCollarToTheColdAndDamp · 02/04/2025 10:55

Looks like you've answered your own question op 😄

Where are you?

It seems unlikely to rain allll the time, get the kids outside in the dry periods to get some energy burned off. Are you eating out a bit for a change of scene?

WorkingMum1391 · 02/04/2025 10:55

We're in Antalya. Been here a few times and always been blistering heat so really didn't expect our home town to be warmer this week!

Wine. We had a crap holiday in October. Should have been roasting. Wasn’t. Wine is the answer.

WorkingMum1391 · 02/04/2025 10:59

It's also the first holiday for the 1 year old so I had some high hopes and perhaps some very unrealistic expectations 😬

DH keeps texting to ask if I want to swap but SS much prefers to play with his dad than me which is understandable.

Average temperature in Antalya in March is 13 degrees and 16 in April, so it doesn’t seem unseasonal. We considered Turkey in January because it was cheap but it was also cold and wet.

curious79 · 02/04/2025 10:59

We’re currently in one of the world’s considered most vibrant cities and I’m
bored to bits and want to go home. The teens are bored of it too - just DH who continues to be interested and because of the vast money he has spent we can’t admit it

Bigblubird · 02/04/2025 11:17

I had this once - luckily not a whole week, about 3 days. Ended up buying wellies for my DS and we splashed in puddles and played on the beach in between the rain.

We went to tourist tat shops and bough a cheap toy each afternoon, so something to look forward to and a new thing to play with in the hotel room.

It is a bit grim, but you'll survive it, and hopefully you'll get some sunny spells.

frozendaisy · 02/04/2025 11:20

Just enjoy not having to do normal chores
the 1 yr old won’t remember anything
research local indoor museums, anything really a stunning church boat with a roof trip

you can’t change the weather
you can choose to sit in your hotel room
as the staff where do locals take kids when it’s raining see if they have any fun suggestions

fluffiphlox · 02/04/2025 11:24

I think that end of the Med is much more dicey weather wise in April than say the Canaries.

I'm curious where you are!

theressomanytinafeysicouldbe · 02/04/2025 11:31

Did this in Corfu 1 year, end May - rained first 2 days - was all inclusive, We took advantage of that, all food snacks meals and drinks, did not miss a serving and drank far too much wine but what are holidays for. We played a lot of pool, played table tennis, did have a walk down to the beach and went in the pool in the rain, which was actually lovely. We wok up on day 3 and it was 29 degrees straight sunshine rest of trip.

The reception area had a selection of books and games you could borrow, maybe see if they have something like that and have a games night

DisforDarkChocolate · 02/04/2025 11:33

Swap anyway, even if it's just for an hour or two. It will be different to being at home.

Liondoesntsleepatnight · 02/04/2025 11:37

Board games in the room? Netflix on tv? We used to take a portable DVD player before that was thing.

Stock up with tea, milk drinks etc

Wintersgirl · 02/04/2025 11:41

April is very early in the season, the weather you described is pretty normal for that time of year...

5128gap · 02/04/2025 11:51

Hire a car or check out public transport options and go on some adventures. You're surrounded by great places from nature trails to waterfalls, really cool roman cities, land of legends if you're up for a theme park. I'd go out somewhere every morning then back for lunch, naps, indoor pool etc, then it's your usual holiday evening. It's a massive shame to have gone all that way, spent all that money and seen nothing but the hotel room pool and arcade. Might as well explore a little, the weather's ideal for that.

Offtobuttonmoontovisitmrspoon · 02/04/2025 11:52

Explore in the rain!

vandelle · 02/04/2025 11:56

It must be so disappointing. It's easier when you don't have kids with you I know, but I think lots of wine, eat all around you, take a local bus somewhere and go on an adventure. If you get lost get a taxi back.

If it's any consolation, my brother and family were in Southern Spain in March. It lashed down in absolute torrents for 8 of their 10 days. They never saw anything like it, rivers of water coming down the hills onto the roads and the towns. I think they are still hammered. 😊

BritishFoodFan · 02/04/2025 11:57

I too need to know where @curious79 is.

Am intrigued...

LillyPJ · 02/04/2025 11:58

Read, swim, try to take some interesting photos, go for a walk in the rain, have a Turkish massage, draw or paint something, find someone to chat to, learn some of the language, watch a film, write a poem or story, travel on local transport... Think of it as a challenge rather than focusing on what you can't do.

Mingenious · 02/04/2025 12:01

We had two weeks in a tent in the south of France in August once where it didn’t get above 15° the whole time we were there! I was so pissed of 🤣

Sucks, doesn’t it.

How can you've bored in one of the most vibrant cities? There must be loads going on.

JustMyView13 · 02/04/2025 12:01

Wine, a book, and crisps.
