Do you wipe your bottom standing up or sitting down?

justtheonequestion1 · 31/03/2025 10:41

Well, I thought this was an entirely uncontroversial topic, but my DH has discovered (through a conversation) that I stand up to wipe my bottom after going to to the loo.

Do you, for whatever reason, do the same? Or are you a sitter and you lean either forwards or to the side?

I feel as though there are multiple reasons to stand, perhaps you have mobility issues, a larger body, or it is simply your preference (like me).

Please tell me that at least some of you do this and I am not entirely abnormal!!

Yes - a good diet and good fluid intake, plus, a tapered stool!!

Oh I do drink a load of water every day. Maybe that's what it is.

Surely if you turn around you're just looking at the shit inside the bowl?

Why would you need to turn?

Well this is likely TMI but I do need to see the consistency etc as it varies all the time. Comes of having chronic constipation as a young one I think.

skipdiddyskip · 31/03/2025 16:17

@justtheonequestion1it has music, a drying function, heated seat, water pressure options. It’s great.

You know, it’s okay to keep some stuff in your head and not share it.

I use water, cleaner than wiping..we have a bidet attachment next to all the toilets in the house. It’s an Asian thing, all toilets have them back home..

Surely you also use loo roll too? To dry yourself?

I stand up

Truly astonished that some people stand and that several can’t get their heads around how a seated wipe is possible. Are your backs stiff? Arms short? My arse is literally in reaching distance without effort.

I am fairly tall for a woman and don't have short arms, think I am just stiff, which is why it is too uncomfortable to twist in that way

Same @CalmTheFuckDownMargaret - I'm sat at my desk and keep reaching back on my desk chair to check I'm not being insane.

This really made me laugh! 🤣

This thread has been brilliant. I've literally belly laughed. DH is wfh & was wondering what had gotten in to me.

DH & I are both sitters but we've discovered DS (17) is a stander. I am SHOCKED! This is not the way I taught him. 😂

I am glad! Parts of it have made me belly laugh too (even though that was very far from my intention when I started it). DH has also been working from home here and has wondered what has been going on. Some of the comments have been very amusing indeed

I’ve never ever considered sitting. Wouldn’t your hand potential touch the toilet bowl?
I’ve always stood and never thought anything of it!

Growlybear83 · 31/03/2025 19:19

I wonder if any of the people who are unable to wipe sitting down have tried one of the nifty bottom wipers that are available from Amazon? 😆

SD1978 · 31/03/2025 19:19

Always a stander. It’s more a skiing position that standing up straight, but us standers are in a very small minority, I thinking sitting is weird and unhygienic.

Missing the point of the thread entirely (I'm a sitter, standing is just plain odd).

Please DO NOT flush any wet wipes of any type even those that say fit to flush/fine to flush they really aren't. My job is sewer networks, 80% of all the issues within the sewer is sewer abuse - i.e., wipes down the toilet. Fat down the drain.

Never, ever flush a wet wipe of any description, please 🙏

We need more public education on this I think. Many people do not know (although it is true that a large number simply do not care)

Only if you bum is hanging down inside the toilet bowl.

That's why I have a dog

AlmostCutMyHairToday · 31/03/2025 15:23

To any standers on here - have you not had bits of poo fall off your bum and onto the floor / your pants with this technique?? Surely it's safest to wipe with your bum right over the toilet.

God, no. That sounds terrifying and would surely convert me to being a seated-wiper

Yes I do that too - quite a lot of water in fact. Still don't produce these ghost poos though. If only

Well judging by this thread it seems 1/3 of us are probably standers, and someone earlier in the thread said an audience was once asked this and the response was 50-50

That is quite funny! How old is your youngest DS? a child or teen / adult?

Lifelong stander here - staying sitting just seems really awkward - I really can't get my head around those saying that standing 'limits access' - I would have thought that is more of an issue sitting down.

Also, all the mentions of "mushing it in" etc. 😬You all need a lot more fibre in your diets - whilst I always, obviously, wipe, most times I don't actually need to, it's always completely clean. Fibre people, fibre!! 😁
