To think baths are awful?

I’ve lived in my house for four years and there is a very deep and long L shaped bath which is the envy of my bath loving friends. I’ve never been keen on baths and never used it. But tonight I thought, for a change, I’d run myself one and take my book.

It was absolutely shit. Took bloody ages to run, then I got in and couldn’t hold by book right. The water was a nice temperature but it made my face too hot. It was boring. I lasted twenty minutes and then drained the water. Complete waste.

I find them mildly disgusting. Right up close to the grouting. It’s horrible. AIBU?

YABU. Reading whilst soaking in a nice hot bath is one of the pleasures of life.

LilacPony · 26/03/2025 21:22

I agree with you 😂

AllTheChaos · 26/03/2025 21:22

Quick shower first and a nice glass of chilled white wine whilst you are in the bath!

Monvelo · 26/03/2025 21:22

Totally agree, not had one for maybe a decade! They make me feel dead.

IPM · 26/03/2025 21:23

I prefer a shower but no baths are not disgusting.

Does your grout need cleaning?

Cancelthebreak · 26/03/2025 21:23

I love a bath but I am a fat slob so I wallow like a beached whale in there.

Pippa12 · 26/03/2025 21:24

Ripped our bath out. I can’t get over soaking in my own dead skin 😂wish I loved them as the majority seem to get great pleasure from them, but just not for me!

olololpk · 26/03/2025 21:25

I loooove a bath but those L shape ones are a pain in the arse, my mum had one and it was too big, not helped by a combi boiler that made it even slower to fill!

LizzieSiddal · 26/03/2025 21:25

I haven’t had a bath since 2002.😂 I hate them.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 26/03/2025 21:26

Yanbu. I occasionally used to like the idea of one then as soon as I got in I'd want to get out. When we had our bathroom done a few years ago we got rid of it and it's not been missed.

TomatoSandwiches · 26/03/2025 21:26

Getting into a deep, hot bath is how I hope dying feels like, it's bliss.

Lifestooshort71 · 26/03/2025 21:26

I love having a bath, lots of scented bubbles and water just a touch too hot. If you bathe every day (and don't have a dirty/smelly lifestyle) then you're sinking back into clean water so no worries there. I don't read or drink wine, I just relax and rethink my day, bliss.

AlpacaMittens · 26/03/2025 21:27

They're pointless and fucking boring. I'm planning to rip the bath out and get myself a walk in shower ❤️❤️❤️

Mum2jenny · 26/03/2025 21:27

Shower first, then soak in a nice warm bubbly bath for about 45 minutes with a good book and glass of wine. Really relaxing imo.

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 26/03/2025 21:27

I love baths but they have to be comfortable. When we had a new bathroom I spent ages lying in every bath in the showroom to choose a comfortable one.
I’ve been to hotels with amazing looking freestanding baths and they are rubbish to lie in.

namechangeGOT · 26/03/2025 21:28

I have a bath on a night and a shower in the morning! Could never and would never consider not having a bath! I don’t read in it, or anything, I lay in it for about 45 minutes and contemplate my existence!

Martymcfly24 · 26/03/2025 21:28

Hate baths, getting mine out for a big shower when kids get a big bigger.

You're just lying there doing nothing. Too uncomfortable position to read.

BinChicken1 · 26/03/2025 21:30

I love a bath. But I am rather perplexed by the idea of showering first. Why do you do that..?

tiredofthisusername · 26/03/2025 21:30

I don't much like showers, I'm really not keen on the sensation of water running down my face and it's not easy to avoid, is it? Not all that straightforward to rinse bubbles off the undercarriage either. Much prefer a bath.

meganorks · 26/03/2025 21:30

Not a fan. And never managed to figure out the reading in the bath either. What do people do? Hold the book and then sit down in a not too full bath and hold their hands in the air from then on?! Any movement and the book or you hands get wet and then it's game over.

Purplebunnie · 26/03/2025 21:30

If only I could still get in a bath (well get out more importantly😂)

I used to love having a quiet read in the bath with some nice bubble bath. Now I have to have showers due to the knees and other conditions have precluded me using shower gels. Now I am jealous of anyone who can have a bath

soupyspoon · 26/03/2025 21:31

I used to love baths years ago, used to spend ages in there, candles all around, wine, mustic on, running more hot water to keep it hot

Was quite fat at the time found it really comfortable

Then got too fat and couldnt really fit

Now not fat at all and have no bum left and its agony, I was looking forward to enjoying baths again to find I cannot sit in the bath, its awful, just not enjoyable.

BlindTipsy · 26/03/2025 21:31

I love a bath! I have a bath bridge thing to hold my kindle and wine glass, low lights and lovely bath oil. Bliss!
Only in the winter though - too hot in the summer.

fivetriangulartrees · 26/03/2025 21:33

I hate baths. I get in and within two minutes I'm contemplating long-forgotten resentments, the patriarchy and the futility of life. Get out in a rage. Stupid fucking relaxing baths.

maddening · 26/03/2025 21:33

Books no, podcast and a brew yes. With no book if you get hot you can let the water wash round and refresh you.
