To think baths are awful?

I’ve lived in my house for four years and there is a very deep and long L shaped bath which is the envy of my bath loving friends. I’ve never been keen on baths and never used it. But tonight I thought, for a change, I’d run myself one and take my book.

It was absolutely shit. Took bloody ages to run, then I got in and couldn’t hold by book right. The water was a nice temperature but it made my face too hot. It was boring. I lasted twenty minutes and then drained the water. Complete waste.

I find them mildly disgusting. Right up close to the grouting. It’s horrible. AIBU?

We don't have a shower only a bath - I like baths in hotels - ours is not full length so feel a bit squished in it!

BeTwinklyKhakiPanda · 26/03/2025 22:24

I absolutely hate showers over baths. Slipped and fell out of mine about a year ago. Fortunately I was okay, just, but it made me realise how dangerous they are, so I ripped the whole thing out and now have a lovely walk in shower. Best thing I ever did, renovation wise at least

RaraRachael · 26/03/2025 22:25

We gof our bath taken out so haven't had one for years. I can't be bothered with the time it all takes. Waiting for it to fill then feeling I have to stay in a decent length of time to justify it.
I always felt ill when I emerged whatever the temperature.

Give me a 5 minute shower any day.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 26/03/2025 22:26

Baths are great. An L-shaped one sounds silly though - no wonder it takes a long time to fill up! I love reading, but never read in the bath - I like to relax in it and don't feel the need to distract myself with anything.

Mikart · 26/03/2025 22:26

I last had a bath about 25 years ago. Hate them.

mindingmyown37 · 26/03/2025 22:27

Totally agree…. I only have a bath if I have muscle or joint pain that is affecting my everyday life, but most of the time I just run the jet function on the shower. I don’t understand sitting in the bath soaking, i]hate when my body especially my fingers toe wrinkly from the water. I think the last time I had a bath was in September when I woke up with a really sore back,. Before that was about 3 years. Showers for me all the way. I do have a nice deep big bath though.

moto748e · 26/03/2025 22:28

My bath, like, I suspect, many these days, is too bloody small! If I had one of those massive Victorian-style baths you can stretch out in, maybe, but this little thing; I don't even consider it, Shower every time.

vipersnest1 · 26/03/2025 22:29

One of my biggest moans when pregnant was that I couldn’t submerge all of me! My unborn babies both liked having water poured over my bump. 😊
My current house is eco-friendly so the bath isn’t very deep which is annoying, as I like to have a bath on a Sunday evening (usually shower in the morning other days) and have a nice soak, adjusting the water temperature with my feet, enjoying using the bath rack my adults DCs bought me, with a glass of wine on it, either watching stuff I like on YouTube (renovations of old buildings and the like) or reading. There nothing as nice as having had a bath, putting your pjs on and relaxing for the rest of the evening feeling clean and peaceful.

hotbathbookwineheaven · 26/03/2025 22:30

I love a bath. The best part of my day!

1stWorldProblems · 26/03/2025 22:30

Bath, book (or Private Eye or Kindle - waterproof one). Glass of wine. Hot water - easily spend an hour in their.

Had 12 weeks post mastectomy last summer & a brand new gorgeous shower room but God I missed my baths. A shower is just washing even with music or a podcast. A bath is an event with wine & reading material.

Also 20 mins in a bath that's hot enough to make your face sweat (or a sauna) has been found to have the same effect on your heart as going for a run.

BubblegumGiraffe · 26/03/2025 22:32

A bath pillow is a good investment

Gettingbysomehow · 26/03/2025 22:34

Baths always seem like a great idea at the time but then you end up lying there for 3 hours, topping up the hot and eventually get out all hot and sweaty and your hair has gone flat.
I'm thinking of getting mine removed and a big shower put in.

exhaustedandwholly · 26/03/2025 22:34

I've never understood baths? I get too bloody hot and sweat my tits off in them. I never ever feel clean after a bath and I can never get comfy. I slide down halfway and it's bloody uncomfortable. My MIL has them EVERY single night. How I do not know. Sitting in your own dirt doesn't appeal to me so I agree OP

What on earth is an L-shaped bath?!

That’s what I thought. Is it for two?

I’m with you OP. Haven’t had a bath for about 15 years.

justasking111 · 26/03/2025 22:37

When my back has been particularly painful I've run a bath. It's a D bath so big. But it takes 20 minutes to half fill. I do get bored in a bath can't read easily. Don't do candles or wine.

My friends have a built in tv hidden speakers special lighting. That's more tempting.

YABU. Reading whilst soaking in a nice hot bath is one of the pleasures of life.

Even better is listening to the radio. Mmmmmmmm.

tiredofthisusername · 26/03/2025 21:30

I don't much like showers, I'm really not keen on the sensation of water running down my face and it's not easy to avoid, is it? Not all that straightforward to rinse bubbles off the undercarriage either. Much prefer a bath.

Edited

You need one of those shower heads on a flexible hose you can take off the hook and aim where needed.

Tumbleweed101 · 26/03/2025 22:38

Enjoy a bath. Shower most days but a bath Is a weekend thing when I have time to relax and enjoy.

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 26/03/2025 22:40

Jade my first ever shower at almost 40 years old. Love them, but love baths too. Can be relaxing, but have to be in the mood for one.
If you're jittery, have a lot on, can't switch off etc, then you won't be able to relax.
Bath, rinse after, bliss.

If she is having them every night surely there is no dirt?!?!?!

viques · 26/03/2025 22:42

I quite like the time a bath takes to fill, it’s amazing what you can get done, apply a mask, clean your teeth, find clean pjs, hoover the top landing, sort a load of dirty washing to take downstairs or fold a load of clean washing, tidy the bathroom shelves, then get into bath feeling virtuous.

SwedishEdith · 26/03/2025 22:42

An L shaped bath.

To think baths are awful?
TubeScreamer · 26/03/2025 22:42

Don’t think I’ve had a bath for 12 years

ThatAgileLimeCat · 26/03/2025 22:44

Hate them. They are pretty handy during labour and those first few days after giving birth (although still boring) but don't think I've had one since.

gettingonfor40 · 26/03/2025 22:44

Washing your hair in the bath is an arse ache. Having a shower improves my quality of life.
