She ordered a Curry and hasn’t paid me

Friend came to my house

I was going to cook but she asked if I fancied a curry. I said that would be really nice actually

Her JustEat app wasn’t working so I said have a look on mine for places that are open. She picked Indian.

I put everything I wanted in and she added hers. Total came to £52ish. Over 65% of that cost was hers.

I said I could just check out and sort it later. I have messaged to ask if she had the money today as a gentle reminder, and she said she thought it was my treat?

I said oh, we must have got crossed wires then. She said ‘I did cover the shop’

She went to the corner shop for wine and snacks. I got a Grape Fanta!

Where do I go from here? Leave it? Was it reasonable for her to assume it was in fact my treat?

Spaghetti with a tyre

This conjured such a visual image! 😆😆

Bunnycat101 · 22/03/2025 22:52

Can you get her to do a PayPal invoice? She must have a card if she had a justeat app….

LauderSyme · 22/03/2025 22:55

She is such a CF. How many more excuses will she come up with to fucking stiff you? Bad friend.

MidnightMeltdown · 22/03/2025 22:55

Mnetcurious · 22/03/2025 21:53

3 naans between 2 people?! We share one between us and that’s plenty.

Surely if you’re ordering a rice each you don’t need naan? You’re supposed to order one or the other 😂. No wonder it was expensive!

Snugglemonkey · 22/03/2025 22:56

arcticpandas · 22/03/2025 21:05

CF! Remind her you were going to cook but she said she wanted to order a curry so you thought it would be her treat but you're willing to split the Bill with her even though she ordered more than you.

This is how I would play it.

Her reply says

‘Oh right. I didn’t realise but never mind!! I’ll have to go into branch cos I don’t do online banking. Or I can hand * the cash to give you, she lives nearby doesn’t she’

Right. So her just eat app wasn’t working, and now she doesn’t do internet banking. That’s convenient isn’t it?

I don’t think that you’re very to get that money back OP. She is CF extraordinaire. I wouldn’t bother seeing her again if I were you.

I don’t believe she doesn’t do online banking in 2025! What a joke. She’s trying to make it seem as awkward as possible for you. Suggest PayPal.

Yes I didn’t even think of that but now you mention is, what BS! As if a professional app like that just randomly “wouldn’t work”

CalmTheFuckDownMargaret · 22/03/2025 23:02

It’s highly unlikely she doesn’t do online banking. She’s hoping you’ll not ask again. CF.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 22/03/2025 23:03

Missing the point but 3 nans for 2 people!

LucyBee0ox · 22/03/2025 23:04

I’d be distancing myself from her after you’ve had your money back, she definitely lacks morals and empathy and shame if she behaves this way. A normal person would feel guilty and cringe at doing this.

Soontobesingles · 22/03/2025 23:12

MightAsWellBeGretel · 22/03/2025 21:08

What a CF! I'd be so mortified if I'd thought something was a 'treat' and got it wrong, I'd never admit it and transfer my half post haste. She's blatantly trying it on and is no friend!

This. So weird.

waterrat · 22/03/2025 23:12

You have now learnt she is not a good friend. Absolutely no adult expects a "treat' for no reason from a friend..why?!

You offered dinner she suggested take away.

You may never see the money as the not doing Internet banking is top level byllshit

FrazzledHippy · 22/03/2025 23:15

Togglebullets · 22/03/2025 22:08

You have a whole naan between 2 people? I just ask our local Indian to shake a few crumbs into a bag. The 5 of us are stuffed when we've eaten all that. We don't need to eat again for a week

I can't believe you can manage a bag of crumbs, I'm absolutely stuffed from the aroma! A good deep breath and that's me done, couldn't possibly eat a thing! I actually find it rather gluttonous to be eating anything at all!

StressedLP1 · 22/03/2025 23:15

“Gosh not doing internet banking in this day and age is unusual isn’t it! Not to worry - I’ll pop by yours to get it - what day and time is good?”

cakewench · 22/03/2025 23:17

Doesn't do online banking! What an excuse. 😆

"oh wow, no, I was ready to cook for us when you suggested the takeaway! Anyway, if it's easier, you can PayPal it over. Otherwise yes I suppose you'll need to take the money out the old fashioned way. Let me know, you can just pop it in an envelope through the door (or whatever) Thanks!"

If you want to over egg it you can add a "go ahead and deduct the £3 for the Fanta I had" if she even mentions snacks again.

Soontobesingles · 22/03/2025 23:17

From how she phrased it I’d expect she was treating you. On the other hand, if you invite someone to your home you usually provide food. However, unless she exceptionally socially inexperienced, it is also not polite to refuse the meal on offer at host’s home, let alone demand something different and more expensive and expect host to cover costs.

Ha ha at 'doesn't do online banking'

Crinkle77 · 22/03/2025 23:22

TwistedWonder · 22/03/2025 22:28

Is she 80 because no one younger than that doesn’t have online banking these days.

Ask her to pay you via Paypal then

Edited

I'm 47 and don't do online banking. Although I do use the automated phone service to pay bills and transfer money so she could do that instead of having to draw the cash out.

AmusedBouched · 22/03/2025 23:24

OnePeachA · 22/03/2025 21:00

Spaghetti carbonara! Bloody typo

oh phew 😂😂😂
if I came to yours and you offered to make me spaghetti with a tyre I’d most definitely offer to buy you a takeaway 😝

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 22/03/2025 23:28

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 22/03/2025 21:50

What's with the "my takeaway is cheaper than your takeaway" and the "did you really eat double carbs?" competition?

It's not relevant to the OP.

Edited

It hardly ever is on AIBU. Waiting for someone to bring up Hungry House.

Sorry OP, she sounds like a chancer. Either that, or when she asked about takeaway and you offered, she assumed you were offering to get the whole meal. (Clutching).

Tbry24 · 22/03/2025 23:28

If she doesn’t do online banking how was she going to be using justeat for a takeaway she wanted.

Send her your bank details and the amount, don't engage with cash drop offs. Let her arrange it.
