She ordered a Curry and hasn’t paid me

Friend came to my house

I was going to cook but she asked if I fancied a curry. I said that would be really nice actually

Her JustEat app wasn’t working so I said have a look on mine for places that are open. She picked Indian.

I put everything I wanted in and she added hers. Total came to £52ish. Over 65% of that cost was hers.

I said I could just check out and sort it later. I have messaged to ask if she had the money today as a gentle reminder, and she said she thought it was my treat?

I said oh, we must have got crossed wires then. She said ‘I did cover the shop’

She went to the corner shop for wine and snacks. I got a Grape Fanta!

Where do I go from here? Leave it? Was it reasonable for her to assume it was in fact my treat?

Again, I'm not in the UK. But in our indian restaurants the mains come with rice OR naan so they ask you which you prefer. You can of course order both and pay the extra. Or you can order two extras along with your already large meal and apparently that is totally normal. I find that ridiculous but hey.

“Already large meal” ha ha you need help , the sly little digs are never ending 😆🤣

Oh for heaven’s sake, already large meal 😁

Are you saying that you find it shocking that grown adults might want to order some extras on top of one serving of rice and one serving of curry? What is going to mop up the remnants of curry sauce if not a naan? You are missing out on one of life’s little pleasures.

I eat rice and naan (and most food).

nothing sly or little about my dig - it was a fairly upfront response to the post I had quoted which stated only being offered rice OR naan was 'ridiculous'.

But never at the same time?

It doesn’t mean anything other than that they’ll give you two items for an inclusive price and everything else is extra. It's a money thing, they don’t care about your eating habits.

BunnyLake · 24/03/2025 17:17

IlooklikeNigella · 24/03/2025 17:10

At the same time yes

Then why are you acting so judgemental that people eat naan with rice?

I couldn't give a toss what people eat or do in general.

I am however intolerant of people deluding themselves, declaring BS as facts and ridiculing anyone who disagrees with them.

A serving of an Indian main and one side (or two half sides like I usually get) could easily (depending on the restaurant) be a day's worth of calories. So yes it is already a large meal which only gets larger with extra sides, poppadoms, drinks etc.

If other people want to attach emotion / judgement or whatever to that fact is up to them.

BatchCookBabe · 24/03/2025 17:39

NO-one just eats curry and naan bread @IlooklikeNigella 😂

Everyone has curry and rice, or curry, rice, and naan bread.

Well it is ridiculous! 😆 No Indian restaurant would offer just curry and naan bread. (With no rice!!!) Your posts are utterly batshit! 😂

Industrial-strength gaslighting, we’ve all seen your campaign on this thread and now you’re airily pretending you’re a lighthearted double-carb aficionado? Behave.

ThatHazelGuide · 24/03/2025 17:45

Oh my, in the absence of the conclusion I was seeking from OP, I may as well pile on

In Bradford you traditionally eat curry with Chapatti only (three would be free of charge with a curry, but that's only found few and far between nowadays).

Also in Bradford people eat curry with Yorkshire Pudding. Let this bombshell blow up the thread.

No I'm just not delusional and know what a big meal is when I'm eating it myself. I'm also not a competitive OVEReater which is such a bizarre thing to be celebrating.
