She ordered a Curry and hasn’t paid me

Friend came to my house

I was going to cook but she asked if I fancied a curry. I said that would be really nice actually

Her JustEat app wasn’t working so I said have a look on mine for places that are open. She picked Indian.

I put everything I wanted in and she added hers. Total came to £52ish. Over 65% of that cost was hers.

I said I could just check out and sort it later. I have messaged to ask if she had the money today as a gentle reminder, and she said she thought it was my treat?

I said oh, we must have got crossed wires then. She said ‘I did cover the shop’

She went to the corner shop for wine and snacks. I got a Grape Fanta!

Where do I go from here? Leave it? Was it reasonable for her to assume it was in fact my treat?

She planned for you to pay for her curry all along. SHE asked about getting a curry, HER JustEat was 'not working' and then she allowed you to put in YOUR payment details with no argument or suggestion of how she might repay you. It was planned and intentional. You'll be lucky if you get that money.

I think everyone agrees it's a massive meal. For one thing in a restaurant they always ask if you want naan or rice.

Do they? ( to both statements)

Do you think one person ordering a rice and TWO naans for herself is not a massive meal? My DH and I order one rice and one naan between us. I've recently been on Wegovy so I eat much smaller meals than I used to, but even when I was eating much more than was good for me, we still ordered one rice and one naan between us. At a push we might have ordered a second rice if DH was feeling especially hungry or wanted some to use with leftover curry the next day, but who on earth orders TWO naans plus a rice just for themselves?

If you don't think that's alarming then there is something wrong with you.

Spaghetti with a tyre

No wonder she wanted a curry😂

ThatHazelGuide · 24/03/2025 09:16

This thread has been derailed by "how much naan and rice one can eat with a curry".

The question in point is about the CF

I've got very vested in this and need OP to come back and tell us if she has given the CF

A. A good talking too
B. Cut the CF loose
C. Got her money

I need a conclusion

I agree.

I had a friend who would turn up for a quick drink meet up with a group that never had any money or means to pay. She was subsidised for months. Still managed to have her nails, lashes, brows done and various other spending. She was a user. Eventually everyone got fed up with paying for her.

Reply saying ‘the curry was your idea, whatever made you think it was my treat? Here are my account details, feel free to deduct the £2 for my can of Fanta’

I think what’s alarming is that people still think it’s relevant to the question at hand.

Nearly as alarming - the number of people who think they’re the first in 25 pages to make this joke.

I have never been to a restaurant that asks if you want naan OR rice that is ridiculous. Does that poster think restaurants would rather you only ordered one of their offerings instead of two?

The only way they’d ask is if you hadn’t ordered any and it was in the context of telling you what’s available. Like you might be asked if you’d like beer or wine, they don’t mean you should only have one or the other.

Yetegs · 24/03/2025 11:52

Well exactly. I’ve been in a restaurant and ordered my dish with rice. I’ve then been asked if I want a naan with that. So I don’t think it’s totally unheard of for people to get both. Restaurants will be more than happy for people to buy more!

Also, the word OR can be meant in different ways. It doesn’t always mean it has to be one or the other only. If you’re in a restaurant and you order your main meal, they may ask you “do you want a drink or starter?” It doesn’t mean you can ONLY have EITHER a drink or a starter. It means do you want one or both of those options as well as what you ordered. If I’m in the supermarket with my husband and he buys a sandwich for lunch, I might ask him if he wants some crisps or a chocolate with it. I don’t mean he can ONLY have one of them although he should only have one really I’m just asking if he wants either or both of those as well as.

LuckySantangelo35 · 24/03/2025 11:53

If people want to comment on the three nans then they can! Because it IS an unusually large amount. Sorry, thread police!

Calliopespa · 24/03/2025 11:54

Are all naans the same size?

We make curry at home if we have it so I’m genuinely curious …

Those who don't like the thread police should maybe stop being the carb police 😁

As @ThatHazelGuide said, we need a conclusion

sweetpickle2 · 24/03/2025 12:00

I can't believe people are still talking about the amount of naans. WHO CARES its not remotely relevant to the OP. They could have ordered 1000 naans and OP's 'mate' would still be a CF.

FlipFlopVibe · 24/03/2025 12:17

OnePeachA · 22/03/2025 21:34

Slightly side tracking but the poster replying with a shock to the 2 meals costing £52, does that seem a lot then?! I thought it was average

I have text to say ‘Sorry, no treats I’m afraid. This is my account details x xxxx. Hope to meet up again soon‘

huge compared to where we live, I’m shocked too. A shared starter, two mains, rice and 2 naans is no more than £28 anywhere near us

I swear if OP came back and said her friend had come round and dumped the whole £26 on her doorstep in five pence pieces and screamed, “Here you are then - your thirty pieces of silver!! Eat THAT, curry whore!!”, people would still respond “Three naans? And £52?! Mind you, no wonder she wanted a curry if OP was going to serve a tyre, haha! A bit chewy eh?!”

You're not preventing me from discussing anything. You are spoiling my enjoyment of reading a potentially interesting thread, which is why I clicked on it.
Instead, I have had to plough through dozens of your tedious and self-absorbed posts, that have sadly completely changed how the thread developed. But you know that, as you have a whole agenda to push.

I was simply asking you, in a very polite fashion, to go and do it somewhere else, like the weight loss section. That's what that is for.

I agree there's nothing more tedious than diet talk, especially unsolicited, but without that, and all the food budget horror, we wouldn't have the delightful pisstake from Sardines on Gingerbread on p9 of this thread, who has never seen Posh London rice but a friend has "with her own eyes". Still chuckling a day later.

LazyArsedMagician · 24/03/2025 13:33

She'll have to go to branch Grin oh my days. Of course she will.

Again, I'm not in the UK. But in our indian restaurants the mains come with rice OR naan so they ask you which you prefer. You can of course order both and pay the extra. Or you can order two extras along with your already large meal and apparently that is totally normal. I find that ridiculous but hey.

I am in the UK and ours come with rice AND nann, you can also add, sides as many as you like, including Bombay potatoes, poppadums, etc to accompany your meal to make it MASSIVE. No one questions this, no food police visit, no arrests are made.
