Swinging teachers

Interested to read some opinions on this. Someone we know has found out that a teacher at their child's school is a swinger. This person is aghast about this and wants to report the teacher (not sure what for) and is refusing to let them teach their child.
My attitude is that as long as it doesn't affect their work (whichbit clearly isnt) then what the teacher chooses to do in their private time is their business and their business only. ATBU?

I'm entitled to my say as I pay Teachers salaries, they are quite mega from what I've read, let alone the 15 weeks plus paid holiday per year, I expect a Teacher to have morals in the classroom, and in their home lives

You are NOT entitled to that level of say. Or rather you can say what you want but it matters not one jot.
Not one.
You don’t get to say who should be sacked. Teachers are not saints nor should we be expected to be.

I am not absurd, I just like to see standards and morals, I expect a School Teacher to have them, otherwise I don't want them educating my youngsters

They do have standards and morals. They’re just different to yours! If that’s not good enough, home school.

Alright then. Go into the Head’s office at your children’s school and inform them that, as a taxpayer, you expect to be consulted on all hiring and firing decisions from now on, and will be basing your decisions not on qualifications or experience, but sexual morals.

Do let us know how you get on.

@Markovenchip I'll take my mega salary and swan off on holiday then. I am at top of the non management pay scale. I earn between £10,000 and £50,000 less than my peers who have worked their way up in alternative careers for the same 20+ years. And many of those didn't have degrees to start with. I work 50 hours a week minimum (usually 60 to 70) . I can't afford to live on my own with an average mortgage and 3 children. That's not a mega salary. I'm not poor by any means but mega salary is not true.

Don't even start me on the holidays. Teachers working hours and pay are calculated over 39 weeks. Effectively not paid for the holidays but I work every holiday. And my god I need that holiday.

Obviously you can have an opinion on morals of someone in a public sector role with children as a focus but unless you've taught a term in a mainstream comprehensive you can't possibly have an opinion about whether we are worth our pay and holiday. If it's such a mega salary go do your training 👍

I don't j ow why I've risen to this tbh I know you won't get it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Teachers have every weekend and bank holiday free, that's more than I get !.........yes, in retrospect maybe I should have trained as a Teacher, all those holidays are a carrot, though in my day there was still corporal punishment, liberally applied, a boy in my class being whacked hard with a worn-out plimsoll in front of everyone is a memory that has remained with me, I wouldn't have liked to have to do it personally.

Sounds like I'll have to (if Teachers liberally 'swing' or do drugs, tut tut tut), at least they will have standards.

But I do expect them to be, seeing as they spend more time with pupils than parents do, a swinging, drug-taking Teacher is not welcome to educate my youngsters, I don't approve of smoking and drinking either !

GoldStar2 · 15/03/2025 12:22

What consenting adults do in the privacy of their own home is nobody's business but theirs.

Yes. But being on swingers’ apps and websites isn’t private.

I would expect a teacher to have the sense not to do something that would put them at risk of their private sex life details becoming public knowledge.

It’s not about morals it’s about common sense, reputation and credibility.

It's not your business unless the teacher is participating in any of the above on the school grounds.

Ah yes, the famously 'mega' salaries of teachers. That must be why people are queuing up to train and work as teachers, right? Oh, hang on....

yes, in retrospect maybe I should have trained as a Teacher

Maybe. Although based on your lack of comprehension that you do not have a say in your children's school's choice of teaching staff, I'm not so sure.

Yes! This was my first thought too…

About certain things, yes, morals are too loose in today's society.

I just don't like it, loose morals, in or out of the workplace, I'm just going round in circles here, I've had enough !

I have worked 2 hours today and need to do approximately 3 hours tomorrow. Bank holidays are great for catching up with marking and planning.

You are dillusional if you think teachers are sitting around doing nothing all weekend!

Corporal punishment was always a choice so that's absurd.
