To think I've been ripped off / scammed? Vinted

TemuMuggedOff · 03/03/2025 20:06

I was browsing vinted for a (BNWT) handbag to treat myself to for my upcoming birthday.

I came across this one (advertised with these pictures) for £35 and thought it looked lovely. The seller has dozens of positive reviews.

Well, the seller posted it out to me today and after she did she promptly sent me a message afterwards with a bunch of additional photos that weren't visible on the original advert.

It's absolutely shit quality and so flimsy. I would not have bought it with those images on there. The advertised pictures are misleading. She also told me she has sprayed it with antibacterial spray.

I asked why that was necessary and she assured me it doesn't damage the bag as she has sold this same bag 7 times and done the same with all. Apparently it's a spray for bags (?)

Long story short, I've discovered that she's buying them in bulk on Temu for under a tenner and upselling them for over three times the price.

Bags from Temu/Shein arrive smelling of strong chemicals (or fish!) so that's why she's claiming the BS about antibacterial spray.

I don't want a smelly temu bag.

Her profile states no refunds or returns.

Do I have a leg to stand on here and am I being unreasonable to raise a grievance with vinted?

WWYD?

rule number 3 broken!

To think I've been ripped off / scammed? Vinted
staybyyou · 03/03/2025 21:33

Yeah you've been had. Refuse the parcel, or ask for a refund but you might not get it.

This is why I never pay over a fiver for anything on vinted. Too risky!

TemuMuggedOff · 03/03/2025 21:37

Lolopolo · 03/03/2025 21:29

She says in her bio that she sends extra images before shipping. And mentions the spray.

I don’t think you’ve been scammed, she’s a chancer and you’ve been ‘had’ as you’re not savvy (in recognising these type of listings) but given the listing image had a photo of a different bag taken from another brands website you should get a refund as ‘not as described’.

She sent the images straight after she posted the bag not before.

You are right though I've definitely been had and had I been more savvy it wouldn't have happened.

Your best bet is to refuse delivery, as plenty have already said.

I think your chances of getting a refund because she’s used ONE photo of a potentially different bag are low. Just earlier tonight I reported a top as counterfeit that someone has listed as Issey Miyake and used a photo from a completely different company (that is most definitely not Issey Miyake). Vinted just replied to me saying that it’s not breaking their rules and suggested I just block that seller if I don’t like what they post for sale. This isn’t the first time this has happened. Vinted really don’t care to be frank so you need to make sure you do your own due diligence.

Ifigotherewillbedouble · 03/03/2025 21:40

I recently sold something on Vinted - the money you paid is held by Vinted until you accept the sale. So once you receive the goods you should have the option to click in the app, something like not acceptable. So the seller does not have your money, Vinted do. Good luck but I’m hoping it’s as straightforward as saying you don’t accept this.

This is why I don’t understand the love for Vinted. With a carefully written advert anyone can sell any old tat

Only if you’re daft enough to buy unbranded.

TemuMuggedOff · 03/03/2025 21:46

She's spamming me with messages now saying I'm harassing her (on the basis that she's receiving messages from other people accusing her of selling dodgy bags - she claims)

Shes also claiming her friend with the non existent shop gets the pictures from Pinterest, so that in itself is admitting to using fake pictures isn't it.

She has seen this thread btw, she sent me screenshots of my post.

I said I was within my rights to ask for advice if I feel I've been ripped off, apparently that constitutes harassment on my part.

I think you need to say goodbye to your £35

TemuMuggedOff · 03/03/2025 20:48

I understand what you're saying, Quinlan.

The brand it's listed as being on the vinted advert is "NA!" which admittedly I hadn't heard of before.

If I'd have known it was coming from Temu I would definitely not have bought it. My friend ordered a bag from Temu (knowingly) and when it turned up it smelt awful, like chemicals and fish, so it went in the bin.

You can get the fish smell on artificial leather goods that have used a low quality oil. I bought a Fossil bag from the Fossil website which looked great but had the same smell. It does go eventually but took a couple of months!

Uch what a joke

Just say to her look you'll send it back and for her just to refund you.

She's benn caught out she should hold her hands up now and move on to her next victim because if she gets blocked on Vinted she will just start a new account

Rantypanties · 03/03/2025 21:52

If nothing else report her as selling as a business (so Vinted Pro) seeing as she’s admitted that’s what she’s doing. I don’t think Vinted will take too kindly to that.

you’d have to pay return postage even if you’re in the right so may as well ignore the attempts to deliver and let it be sent back to the sender. She’ll probably leave you negative feedback but hopefully people will see past that if you decide to buy/sell on there in the future.

Lolopolo · 03/03/2025 21:52

She’s removed the listing for the Temu bag now.

ThreeThousand · 03/03/2025 21:52

As I understand it, you are NOT allowed to use retailers photos on Vinted. You have to use photos of the actual item you are selling.
If the seller has not done so (and she obviously tries to get round this by sending extra, real photos only AFTER you have purchased!!! the blatant cheeky fuckery!!!) then this is your way to insist on a refund.
Also, she may well say upfront (I wonder how upfront?) about spraying with anti bac spray ( ewwwww) - but she hasn't been upfront about the defect (smelliness) that means spraying is necessary.
Seller should always be honest about defects. Most defects would be visible so a photo would do this , but if the defect is stench, the seller SHOULD have been honest about it.
I thjnk you have every right to ask for a refund. It's not just Buyer Beware. Sellers should follow the Vinted rules.

spoodlesee · 03/03/2025 21:53

She has literally used the same picture from Temu. Hasn't even tried to cover her tracks.

report that as you aren't supposed to use other photos in your listings

Cry me a river, she shouldn’t be trying to rip people off with stock photos if she can’t hack it.

Doggymummar · 03/03/2025 21:54

Meanwhile yesterday I posted a genuine vintage designer bag, with certificate of authenticity from the designer and it was disallowed on Vinted. It already has bids on eBay so all is not lost but I don't understand how her ripped off pictures get allowed.

That's pretty much what I said to her to begin with, I will send it back for a refund and that'll be the end of it.

She's going batshit now accusing me of harassing her ( despite me asking her three times to stop messaging me )

She's flapping about losing her side hustle no doubt.

Also, my understanding is that if she’s a pro (and it sounds like she is) she can’t refuse refunds.

ThreeThousand · 03/03/2025 21:55

Screenshot all her messages.

And thank you for a very useful post to remind us to be vigilant. Hope you get your refund.

100% refuse the delivery, it’ll be returned to sender and Vinted will refund. It’s much much harder to get a refund as a buyer once you accept delivery.

I'm going to do it now. Thank you!

Her account isn't a pro account from what I can see, just a normal seller, but she should have definitely registered as pro for what she's doing.

There’s a Vinted subreddit as well, you should get some good advice there and can warn others.
