To think I've been ripped off / scammed? Vinted

I was browsing vinted for a (BNWT) handbag to treat myself to for my upcoming birthday.

I came across this one (advertised with these pictures) for £35 and thought it looked lovely. The seller has dozens of positive reviews.

Well, the seller posted it out to me today and after she did she promptly sent me a message afterwards with a bunch of additional photos that weren't visible on the original advert.

It's absolutely shit quality and so flimsy. I would not have bought it with those images on there. The advertised pictures are misleading. She also told me she has sprayed it with antibacterial spray.

I asked why that was necessary and she assured me it doesn't damage the bag as she has sold this same bag 7 times and done the same with all. Apparently it's a spray for bags (?)

Long story short, I've discovered that she's buying them in bulk on Temu for under a tenner and upselling them for over three times the price.

Bags from Temu/Shein arrive smelling of strong chemicals (or fish!) so that's why she's claiming the BS about antibacterial spray.

I don't want a smelly temu bag.

Her profile states no refunds or returns.

Do I have a leg to stand on here and am I being unreasonable to raise a grievance with vinted?

WWYD?

i bought ment to be heated gloves on line, rubbish quality, would not get evan warm, contacted seller i could return to china at my own cost, plus took 3 weeks to be delivered, , contacted my bank, they sorted it got full refund,

Snowmanscarf · 03/03/2025 20:46

I don’t think its a scam a such. She’s selling you an unbranded bag which you liked the look of and decided to purchase.

The only possible lie is whether she knew they from Temu, or whether she sold them on behalf of her friend on good faith. If she did buy them cheaply to sell on, then that’s classed as trading, and she needs to register herself as a business.

saveforthat · 03/03/2025 20:47

I don't understand why she sent you extra pictures after she posted it. What was the point in that?

TemuMuggedOff · 03/03/2025 20:48

I understand what you're saying, Quinlan.

The brand it's listed as being on the vinted advert is "NA!" which admittedly I hadn't heard of before.

If I'd have known it was coming from Temu I would definitely not have bought it. My friend ordered a bag from Temu (knowingly) and when it turned up it smelt awful, like chemicals and fish, so it went in the bin.

I expect its so she can say she wasn't trying to mislead with the professional looking photos she had on the listing.

Doesn’t NA just mean not applicable?

I think NA for the brand means Not Applicable, which means unbranded, so yes, from Temu. Get in touch with Vinted now for advice so you know what to do when it arrives.

B1indEye · 03/03/2025 20:51

Wasn't the original photo of the person walking with the bag a bit of a red flag, who takes photos like that? That's clearly not a genuine sellers photo

Funny if she has seen the thread and has been caught out in a lie about a friend's shop

ETA the photo is from. AliExpress not Temu

HaggardyOldSkin · 03/03/2025 20:53

I must be honest apart from that she’s lying in her texts it doesn’t sound like she’s scamming ad such as it doesn’t appear that the ad is pretending the bag is anything it isn’t.

GinnyW · 03/03/2025 20:54

I recently contacted Vinted about a vintage designer bag that was obviously a fake. Price was over £200. Vinted didn’t want to know. I will no longer purchase from Vinted.

@TemuMuggedOff when you say loads of people had put offers on it do you mean loads of people had "liked" it (the little heart on the listings). I didn't think you could see offers made by others, or am I missing something?

When somebody puts in an offer on vinted the listing will say, for example, 10 people interested.

219 members put offers in according to the advert.

That in itself seems suspicious now.

Yes but you have proof that the photos were sent after the bag was posted. What with that and the temu photos, she's a bit thick isn't she?

abricotine · 03/03/2025 20:55

Unless she says in the description it’s not from Temu, all this Temu stuff is irrelevant. It’s not like she said she was sourcing it from Italian warehouses or a known brand or anything else.
just raise a dispute and complain about the smell and the misleading pictures.

B1indEye · 03/03/2025 20:55

It's actually a bargain compared to buying if from DHgate

saveforthat · 03/03/2025 20:55

I thought "interested" and offers were completely different.

LancashireSquirrel · 03/03/2025 20:56

'Interested' means likes, not offers as far as I'm aware. Because when you press the little heart to like an item, that number goes up. It's not for offers, it's for likes.

That doesn’t mean it’s had offers, it could be 200 people messaging and asking if it’s from Temu. Most likely people messaging and asking what brand is it or what is it made from.

Goldenrobin · 03/03/2025 20:57

Surely NA is not applicable or no brand? People favourite items all the time and never buy(I do it myself) .
If it is new with tags, she might let you return but you pay.
I would only pay £35 if was a known brand.

LancashireSquirrel · 03/03/2025 21:00

I think it's 6 of one and half a dozen of the other here if I'm honest.

FunkyMonks · 03/03/2025 21:02

You have to be careful op when it comes to Vinted always look at photos if they are ad photos don't bother buying it.
If they are new with out tags they are usually worn always read the description boxes as half the time people will say new without tags and then write been worn a few times as good as new that winds me up it's not new then is it it's been used so should go down as good not new without tags.

Sadly there are a lot of fake products on there certain branded trainers are known for fake replicas.

Always read the sellers reviews if a seller doesn't have high rating/ feed back I stay away.

Quality of the pictures of said item as well as plenty of photos in good lighting showing every bit of the product is good especially an honest description of any flaws/ details.

Sadly with any second hand/ resell site you have to be suspicious of everything if something seems too good to be true likely is.

There's a lot of sellers on vinted as well that have no reviews but have set account up selling expensive items at cheap prices be careful of those types as well.

There's certain things I won't buy off vinted branded trainers because of the risk of fakes, perfume, any body and hair stuff again risk of fakes and expensive designer stuff and any electronic items not worth it better off buying directly from the supplier.

theotherplace · 03/03/2025 21:04

Hmm she's selling copies of the manu atelier bag. I would attach a pic of the genuine one and claim through vinted she's sold you a fake

meganna · 03/03/2025 21:05

Are you very new to buying on Vinted? Even stuff from reputable brands only sells for a couple of quid. Paying £35 for an unbranded bag with obviously fake photos seems crazy, sorry!

"Interested" is just the number of times people have pressed the little heart to add it to their favourites, it has nothing to do with offers.

Hopefully you get sorted, but Vinted doesn't often side fairly with buyers..There are multiple threads on here about it.

wineandcheeseplease · 03/03/2025 21:05

The 219 is people liking it not making offers.

Chuchoter · 03/03/2025 21:07

It's not a scam unless she was claiming the bag was a different brand.

Buyer beware.

Hattieandcake · 03/03/2025 21:08

Looks like she has a fake Valentino up too
