...pizzas with holes cut out and salad put in the middle? Why?! Why the fuck not just order a smaller pizza and get a side salad?!! Who get's the bits they cut out? Is there a secret menu? Are the 'holes' what prince andrew eats when he goes?
For something that doesn't concern me as I'd never order one it does make me quite unreasonably angry. In fact my dander levels have been drastically elevated since I saw the menu on Thursday.

(Although it does look like the chef enjoyed making it VERY much!😮)

If you want a pizza that's half the calories have half a pizza, but just the outer 3 inches is a stupidly impracticable way of doing it.

What are you supposed to do with the other half?

ThatShyRoseViper · 15/02/2025 23:57

Any other 20 year old non-problems you have an issue with?

I would ask "why are snoods so itchy?" but that's more of a 40 year old non-problem issue.

I don’t think they cook the pizza and then remove the middle.

I think it’s odd to be getting so worked up over this.

CarrotsAndCheese · 16/02/2025 00:02

Maybe they use them to make the children's pizzas?

I'm another one who hates rocket/arugula so would never order it.

Take it home and eat it the next day.

JudgeBread · 16/02/2025 00:03

Wow the Prince Andrew "joke" might be the most unfunny thing I've ever read. It's actually negative funny. That's almost impressive.

Let people enjoy things. Who cares if weird holey salad pizza exists. No one is making you order it.

Mysterian · 15/02/2025 23:54

They should sell small pizzas. It would be my first executive order.

But they don't sell them now

I'm not having half a pizza so the sensible and economical choice is this one. I have my pizza and salad. I'm happy 😁

The middle bit (all cheese and toppings) will have more calories than the outer bit so there’ll be fewer calories in a pizza with the middle cut out - therefore more of the lower calorie edge, proportionally - than in a smaller pizza (assuming overall area is the same). They’re marketing it on the low calories.

Plus it still looks big on the plate so there’s some kind of subconscious illusion element to it, more impressive than a small pizza.

Whotenanny · 16/02/2025 00:13

Didn't they start doing that about 15 years ago?

thesecondmrsdewinter20 · 16/02/2025 00:14

YABU. I love this pizza and get it every time I’m at PE. If you don’t like it don’t order it!

Toddlerhelpplease123 · 16/02/2025 00:20

Oh! It’s empty in the middle 😂 I always thought it was just a salad on top!

We are glad you aren’t the CEO of Pizza Express

latetothefisting · 16/02/2025 00:24

It is stupid but only because the crust is the worst part- that pizza misses out the nice gooey middle i.e. the best bit.
If you want half the calories just do a small pizza with side salad, or pizza on a bed of salad or something.

NCfornow256 · 16/02/2025 00:25

I don't go to pizza restaurants, because I don't want to eat an enormous pizza. So this would suit me, but smaller pizzas, as the OP suggests, with salad on the side would be better as there would be less waste.

Again, they don't sell small pizza. So what you're suggesting isn't an option.

What's wasted? They don't make the pizza, cut a hole and throw it out!!

But that is a specific menu item that I always order. My kids have a full pizza each, while I love having the pizza crust (my favorite bit) with a filling of salad. I really like it and would support this being on the menu at more restaurants.

I suggest you worry about cases where the food you do order isn't up to scratch, rather than stressing about food you don't order but that other people really enjoy.

Yes! If I could buy a pizza with the crust cut off after cooking, that’d be perfect (with salad).

I agree with you, this bothers me far more than it should;

1)Pizza never looks like the picture.
2)The middle is the best bit.
3)They say they've 'put a salad in the middle' but it's just a small pile of dried up leaves.
4) Of course it's lower calorie, there's fuck all there.

Sounds like a right bloody faff.

agathatrunch · 16/02/2025 00:31

That is the stupidest pizza I've ever seen.

GoldenSunflowers · 16/02/2025 00:32

I’ve never seen this. Doesn’t the salad get hot from the surrounding pizza? And you can’t add oil or vinegar in it. Having never seen it and thought about it, now I’m overthinking it.

Crikeyalmighty · 16/02/2025 00:34

I actually love these

Trunksarebetter · 16/02/2025 00:31

The restaurant puts it in a box, and then you take it to your house. I guess we all have different skill levels, but I have never considered carrying a small box of food from a restaurant to my car, and then from my car to my house to be particularly onerous.

Butterbean21 · 16/02/2025 00:35

I'm a big eater but I love this pizza. I know when I go out I'm going to want a starter or dessert and like that I can get a tasty pizza for around 600 cals. I don't like the thinness of the romana, it goes like an overcooked pitta to me. I like the salad.

Pizza express also do mini dessert that go along with a coffee which I like.
