To be blunt, I don't understand how anyone can stand this guy. Nothing on earth would convince me to vote for him (I'm American), but he seems to have a surprising level of support on here. Over 60 people died, including a sickening number of children.

How is this ok?

“I have a plan to visit, not the site. Because you tell me, what’s the site? The water? You want me to go swimming?” Donald Trump responded during a White House press briefing on Thursday. The latest tragic mishap marks the deadliest US air disaster in two decades.

He's just saying he won't go to the water site, but stay in land... What's the problem?

icelolly12 · 31/01/2025 14:35

He's a complete psychopath with zero empathy.

I was sure he'd never get in power again after his criminal cases. I was wrong. Very wrong.

His "joke" about swimming. You don't think that might be at all insensitive to the family and loved ones of the deceased?

I can only hope you're being sarcastic.

Redglitter · 31/01/2025 14:38

Hes an embarrassment. The things he's said since the crash are unbelievable. The comment about visiting the site were crass and in appallingly poor taste.

His comment trivialises the tragedy. Any decent person would say I am going to visit the site. No need to add the ridiculous swimming comment.

You think that response is a reasoned, considered and empathetic statement to a tragedy from the 'christian' president? Unbelievable.

Of course no one expected him to enter the water - can you imagine Obama saying something like that? He is a grotesque excuse of a man.

Lovelylydia · 31/01/2025 14:39

It absolutely beats me.
But a colleague said ‘oh but he’s a character’
Still beats me. I feel like the world has gone a little mad.

Yup.

@fanaticalfairy I think you're joking?

Given that mumsnet is made up of mostly Brits or people living in the uk. ( not all but the majority). So many posts lately asking people to justify voting for Trump. Why not ask in a majority US based site. You'd probably get more accurate answers from actual voters.

Because I'm on here at the moment and wanted to? But thanks for the advice. Also because, if you read my question, I've been surprised by the level of support I've seen for him on here.

And, I live in the UK.

But thanks again!

You might get more replies about American politics if you post on an American site.

Nonsense, there always seems to be plenty of Trump supporters on this site, so OP was asking them.

These constant demands to justify trumps latest crazy, are as boring as they are pointless.

He is the US president, there is bugger all the vast majority of MN posters can do about that.

LizzieSiddal · 31/01/2025 14:52

Also the fact he blamed the accident on “diversity and inclusion policies” brought in by Obama and Biden.
He's an absolutely VILE man.

So it follows that I shouldn't, as a dual citizen, be interested in how people who are on here, who support him, see this?

Adding: I have not come to your house, banging on the door screaming at you to answer my question. I've asked on an open forum on which you are very, very welcome to scroll on by, as most of us do on many threads not of interest to us.

You'd have to be pretty dense not to see how his words were totally lacking in empathy.
