People using our drive to turn around

Allthenameshavegone1972 · 29/01/2025 12:51

We live in a cul de sac with a primary school at the end. Occasionally we have caught people on camera using our drive to turn around, but not at school times. There is no reason to use our drive, there us plenty of road space. We've just spent a lot of money last year on having it blocked page.
This is really irritating me, it's just cheeky & lazy. Would I sound petty if I put it onto the village Facebook page?
I don't want to sound petty to the rest of the village, but if this is some parent from thd school who thinks they're entitled, I want them to stop.

You should get one of those folding bollard things. This would annoy me too

fashionqueen0123 · 29/01/2025 12:53

I wouldn’t bother putting on Facebook. Put some plant pots or something down? But you would have to move them out of your own way too.

Hoardasurass · 29/01/2025 12:53

Put up a gate or penguin bolards

SlugsWon · 29/01/2025 12:54

Why does it bother you?

Lefthanddownnumberone · 29/01/2025 12:54

Gate

CornishPorsche · 29/01/2025 12:55

No to Facebook. Yes to signage and a way to block the drive.

Devilgate · 29/01/2025 12:56

I think you should have a special sensor so that every time a ‘rogue’ car comes on your drive - the Aswad song ‘Don’t Turn Around’ would start blasting out at high volume, drawing attention to the driver and making them really self conscious.

But then again, that’s my sense of humour ..

Bpickle1 · 29/01/2025 12:56

Oh my goodness, get a life! no ones parking in your drive are they?

meh2025 · 29/01/2025 12:57

They already know it's rude and are doing it anyway, Facebook post won't change that. Block the drive somehow.

SilenceInside · 29/01/2025 12:57

Putting it on Facebook won't stop entitled people from doing it. You'd be better off looking at ways to make it more difficult for people to access your drive, so they can't use it for maneuvering.

It's very reasonable not to want lots of extra wear and use on your drive, from people that are nothing to do with you.

KnickerlessParsons · 29/01/2025 12:57

Can you park your car on the road across your drive? Or on your drive, but so as it's not possible to reverse in to it?

Allthenameshavegone1972 · 29/01/2025 12:57

@SlugsWon I don't know, it just does. This is why I'm asking if I'm being petty/unreasonable

anniegun · 29/01/2025 12:58

If you post on Facebook you are likely to get some very unpleasant comments and probably not reach the people doing this

Allthenameshavegone1972 · 29/01/2025 12:58

@KnickerlessParsons it's when we're both out, we see them on our door camera

I find it quite amusing the number (most) that cannot do a 3 point turn using a 10ft wide gateway, a good many even cannot do a 6 point turn.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 29/01/2025 13:00

Penguin bollard, but I couldn't get worked up about it

Mymanyellow · 29/01/2025 13:00

Are gates a possibility? It means you have to close them behind you and open them when you return home. But I wouldn’t want to put up either it.

APurpleSquirrel · 29/01/2025 13:01

Diagram?

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 29/01/2025 13:03

This would definitely annoy me enough to get bollards or something to block people. It’s rude and damages the driveway through wear and tear.

I was going to say at least let OP have their massive salad first ..

BobLemon · 29/01/2025 13:04

Someone just turned round on my drive just now. Made the cat jump up. I’ve no idea why mine is so popular for turning (I live on a dead end road, but there are plenty of other turning opportunities). But lol no I’m not posting on Facebook.

Wingedharpy · 29/01/2025 13:04

Electric gates?
Folding lockable bollards?

Hard landscaping work is not cheap and the more folk that drive over it, the quicker it will need replaced/repaired.

Miaowzabella · 29/01/2025 13:05

People will carry on doing it unless you get a bollard.

Onlyvisiting · 29/01/2025 13:05

Facebook is pointless and will make you look petty and ridiculous.
If it is only a few times a week/month then I think it is pretty petty to bother about it at all, but if you really don't like it then a bollard/cones etc is the way to go. A moan on fb will make no difference.

MySpringAir · 29/01/2025 13:07

Isn't there an unspoken agreement that we might at times have to use someone else's drive to turn around, and so we accept that someone might have to use ours for the same reason - a quid pro quo situation?
