People using our drive to turn around

We live in a cul de sac with a primary school at the end. Occasionally we have caught people on camera using our drive to turn around, but not at school times. There is no reason to use our drive, there us plenty of road space. We've just spent a lot of money last year on having it blocked page.
This is really irritating me, it's just cheeky & lazy. Would I sound petty if I put it onto the village Facebook page?
I don't want to sound petty to the rest of the village, but if this is some parent from thd school who thinks they're entitled, I want them to stop.

Weirdos?

that should be on a register?

Are you ok?

Never finer this beautiful sunny day. Hope you are well too.

Just highlighting how some of the posters here seem very insistent that people who want to enjoy their own property in peace and leisure are really weird and should just get over a parade of strangers impinging on their boundaries without complaint. Which is what an AI summary of this thread would say.

To address the OP: to deal with this is to physically block your drive. That is the voice of 4 houses worth of experience.

Motion activated Gatling guns.

Too much?

We have a neighbour that does this. Uses our long shared drive (not shared with him) to take pictures for his online car sales business then drives up to the end to turn round on our paved parking space. Several times a week. Annoys me a lot.

Now THAT would annoy me! CF!

My advice to OP is get over it, it’s a few cars. Life’s too good to raise your BP over this.

Your advise is clearly dud, you’ve had problems with four houses!

Why would she listen to you?

No, my neighbours have had problems. We live in a cul de sac that is a victim of being geographically close to a destination, but as-the-roads-run half a mile from it.

Someone just turned round on my drive just now. Made the cat jump up. I’ve no idea why mine is so popular for turning (I live on a dead end road, but there are plenty of other turning opportunities). But lol no I’m not posting on Facebook.

People probably get lost.

l have no idea what you are talking about here!

A FB post isn't going to deter people..I'd get a chain link, so.people can't do this anymore. Just means you'll have to unlink it, to get onto the drive.

jeffgoldblum · 30/01/2025 12:33

I've seen people actually reverse into those if they are loose enough!

cantthinkofausername26 · 30/01/2025 12:35

This would piss me off, your kids/pets aren't safe on your own drive because people take the piss. Not on. I'd contact the school and ask them to tell parents to not use people's driveways

I wouldn't let kids /pets roam about on the drive anyway! Certainly not if I didn't have gates

But often drives are part of a front garden, and your own kids should be able to “roam” anywhere in their own front garden

I wouldnt want my children roaming in the front garden if we didn't have a gate. It's just basic common sense

I guess I am assuming most parents would take the same approach.

So because you do, everyone does ?

I mean, it seems somewhat odd to assume people would let their children (young presumably or the point is irrelevant) roam around unattended near a road...

The neighbourhood cats love paved driveways, they warm up nicely in the sun.

I'm not sure that's relevant if they are the type of cat that roams free.

I have had it before when I'm getting in the drivers side and my dc getting in the other side, someone reverse at speed into my driveway and only just missed dc and my car, so I can see what pp means.

Why young? Drives are particularly good for cycling and skating on, as well as for several ball sports.

Kids old enough to trust not to head out to the road would still be at risk from vehicles pulling unexpectedly on to the drive. Some games can lead to kids being quite low down so reduced visibility especially for SUV drivers.
(and that’s assuming the drivers are looking properly which isn’t a given in that situation).
