People using our drive to turn around

Allthenameshavegone1972 · 29/01/2025 12:51

We live in a cul de sac with a primary school at the end. Occasionally we have caught people on camera using our drive to turn around, but not at school times. There is no reason to use our drive, there us plenty of road space. We've just spent a lot of money last year on having it blocked page.
This is really irritating me, it's just cheeky & lazy. Would I sound petty if I put it onto the village Facebook page?
I don't want to sound petty to the rest of the village, but if this is some parent from thd school who thinks they're entitled, I want them to stop.

I assume typo and is should say "block paved"

OP - I wouldn't waste time with facebook, not everyone will see and some that do will ignore.

Bollards or gate or a sign saying no turning, if that doesn't work spikes to burst their tires 🤣 (obviously joking), but YANBU not liking it.

HPFA · 29/01/2025 15:44

I don't have a driveway and used to think it would be a nice thing to have.

Not so sure now. People who have them seem to have more stress.

PinkHotelPlease · 29/01/2025 15:45

So there's no actual damage, you've never actually seen it or been inconvenienced by it, but occasionally you see it on your CCTV? If you complained about this on our local fb group I would think you were petty as anything and needed to get a grip.

As to the people suggesting bollards - to me the faff of opening a bollard every time I wanted to get my car in or out would be far worse than having to replace a driveway slightly sooner from it having a tiny bit more wear. Sounds like you'd inconvenience yourself far more than anyone else.

Cakeandusername · 29/01/2025 15:45

We have a large drive near a park and people turn.
I did see red last year as I was in my car on drive, reverse lights on and someone drove right behind me. Luckily I didn’t hit them. They smirked and didn’t apologise.
After that I started putting planter pots across but couldn’t be bothered carrying on. It’s more of an issue in spring/summer.

Girlwithapple · 29/01/2025 15:49

OP I completely get why this irritates you! I wouldn't post on Facebook though. We are further along the road from a school and I know a number of the residents who live directly opposite the school. Several of them have had gates damaged, fence panels damaged and even their own cars parked on the drive have been bumped. My friend recently had someone knock her concrete fence post down...The standard of some people's driving is really shocking and I am not surprised that you want to deter them.

Cakeandusername · 29/01/2025 15:51

We’ve also had oil on drive from randomer - I can see if op has nice block paving it’s something you’d want to avoid.
We have a cctv and no parking sign.

Devilgate · 29/01/2025 14:19

Haha the Assad fans was something I hadn’t foreseen !!

The Assad fans are a lot more of an issue tbh.

tinseltitss · 29/01/2025 15:57

My driveway got wrecked from drivers, mainly delivery drivers, using it as a turning space due to neighbours parking in the actual turning space. I have signs up, cctv, had a chain put across which my neighbour found hilarious etc but NOTHING stopped them. I had the driveway repaired at my own expense but the paving is all smashed again and looks awful but I'm refusing to spend more money on it so I guess I just have to put up with it now. I have full sympathy for you though OP

Muddypawsies · 29/01/2025 16:06

I would put a couple of big plant pots out to block the drive - just make sure they’re light enough for you to pick them up and move them easily when you need to use the drive, but heavy enough not to blow over.

zingally · 29/01/2025 16:25

Bonkers.

How long is someone actually using your drive? 5 seconds? Get a grip.

longtompot · 29/01/2025 16:29

People do it on our drive too and it really annoys me. I think it's because it's not part of the public road, it's my private property. What if they clip my car, or drive over the plants in the border when they do it as it's usually in haste.
When my dog could hear more it used to set her off barking as well, which was annoying.
Anyway, YANBU @Allthenameshavegone1972

This annoys me too, and people pulling in to text or make a phone call.

Had a woman pull in to text the other day as I was about to leave and she actually put her hand up to say "1 minute" when I tried to get out of my own driveway that she was blocking

How rude! I would have been beeping the horn at her the entire time.

I think you should have a special sensor so that every time a ‘rogue’ car comes on your drive - the Aswad song ‘Don’t Turn Around’ would start blasting out at high volume, drawing attention to the driver and making them really self conscious.

But then again, that’s my sense of humour ..

😂😂😂😂

Love this

madamweb · 29/01/2025 16:38

Get rid of the camera, then you won't need to obsess about it any more?

Bignanna · 29/01/2025 16:50

SlugsWon · 29/01/2025 12:54

Why does it bother you?

It would bother me, and most people I bet. What a cheek to trespass on someone’s property!

Bignanna · 29/01/2025 16:59

SnoopysHoose · 29/01/2025 14:18

I never understand this level
of pettiness, your drive is built to take the weight of a car many times over, a slight turn on it won't destroy it.

Unbelievable how some on here think the OP is being petty. I would be furious if someone disrespected my property in that way.

Stupid post. 🙄 It's not just '5 seconds.' It's often 15 to 20 seconds, sometimes longer, and it can be 15-25 times a DAY for some people. For others it will be even more!!! Delivery vehicles, vans, cars, (some are big 3 ton '4 x4' cars,) wagons, work trucks, all sorts, constantly using peoples drives to turn around in.

They DO damage the block paving or tarmac, when it's 100s of vehicles a month doing it. Shows how clueless a person is if they think it won't damage the driveway, and that it's OK for the world and his wife to use someone's private driveway to turn around on.

Why the fuck does anyone think this OK?! Baffling. Confused Cheekyfuckery at its finest.

It takes a special kind of entitled and rude CF to do this regularly, and think it's OK, and they have clearly never had this done to them. Probably don't even have their own house. (And if they do, they definitely don't have a driveway.)

What an ill-informed and clueless post. Have a word with yourself!😆

Furious? Disrespected? It’s a driveway.

It’s THEIR driveway THEIR property. It’s trespass!

Furious? Disrespected? It’s a driveway.

It's someone's private land. Get a clue FFS! 🙄

I think the OP should put breeze blocks on it, and hopefully the next cheeky fucker who reverses onto her driveway smashes the underside of their car (like what happened when my neighbour did this, someone's exhaust box got wrecked!) 😆

Seriously, you can tell the people who don't have driveways on here. Probably don't even have their own house! 😂

Theextraordinaryisintheordinary · 29/01/2025 17:19

This happens with our drive at times but I don’t mind. I see it as someone wanting to turn around. Happy to oblige.

GOOD FOR YOU! 🏅

Doesn't mean that other people are not entitled to be pissed off by it though! Hmm

I have a driveway. Can't imagine giving any headspace to who turns round in it

nationalsausagefund · 29/01/2025 17:22

lmao so we’ve got:

• CAPITALS
• exclamation marks!
bold
• Emoji eyeroll
• Swearing

I’ve got a house, and a driveway, and much better blood pressure than some of you lot.
