To be alarmed at Starmers plans

Anybody else worried about his ongoing plans for deeper involvement in Ukraine. In an interview yesterday he said he intends to send our troops out there. Surely this would mean we’d be at war with Russia! Anyone else very concerned.

I'm hoping that Trump will bring an end to it all.

About time imho

Will this bastard Starmer send his sons to fight? Like Blair did not send his sons to Iraq? Or better still, let fat Starmer go and fight - he is all for it. I don't want our boys to die, why do we have to be involved in every conflict?

Well good for him, sometimes you have to do the right thing.

Good for him? Will you go and fight? Will your sons and daughters go? Or you want to send somebody else's children there? Good for him, my arse.

We are not going to be sending the UK's young to fight in Ukraine. Stop the ridiculous hyperbole.

You're getting awfully hot under the collar about something that is not going to happen, almost as if you were setting out to be inflammatory.

Scammersarescum · 22/01/2025 17:37

Only those that have chosen to join the armed forces would go, it's literally what they are paid to do. Or are we paying for nothing now because they're all someone's children so should be kept on home shores? Not really much point having any armed forces in that instance.

No, they are paid to protect OUR country, not to fight foreign interventions and wars.

I'd hazard a guess that any back and forth between Trump and Putin has already been rehearsed and scheduled and pre-planned. Regarding Starmer, you have to remember that though is relatively new to the post of prime minister, the people working in the military and ministry of defence are not new, and they will be working very closely together. Better or worse than anyone else, who can say, but I'd not look to most newspapers to inform my opinion of how well Starmer is or isn't doing. We're already at war, the constant technological attacks, ships, planes, drones, the countries funding Russia, we're already well and truly in it.

Why does MN allow the site to host blatant disinformation? It is ridiculous.

Shame, some of mine has already been wiped out.

And that’s sad, but surely you understand then that people want to keep their families safe? That we don’t want to put a target on our backs?

PandoraSox · 22/01/2025 19:19

spuddy4 · 22/01/2025 18:30

@PandoraSox last I read he won't confirm or deny British troops involvement so that doesn't comfort me at all.

Link please? All that has been reported is UK personnel's possible role in peacekeeping.

I am more worried about his solution to knife crime. The man should not be in charge of the UK and I wish we had Donald Trump instead because he has his own fragrance

Thanks. That's next year's Christmas presents sorted.

I often think that many of the ills of today's world are caused by people believing, without any checking, any old bollocks they read on SM.

Much as I disagreed with the war in Iraq, Blair sent the military, there was no conscription.

Seems to be a trend over the last few months, not just here but everywhere. Almost looks like people are very disappointed in him.

There is that

Porcuporpoise · 22/01/2025 19:21

But a war we should never have been involved with anyway. Same old story repeating itself. The rest of Europe is probably laughing themselves silly - ‘let the UK go and sort it, they always like to flex their muscles and put themselves in the middle of everything. Idiots’

Milkmani8 · 22/01/2025 19:26

Livelovebehappy · 22/01/2025 19:18

There is already a target on the UK, a country with one of the highest terrorist threat levels that never seems to go down. My children were born in the UK, British citizens. I understand what it means to want to keep your children safe, that’s why I still reside here. We have relocated family and friends from Ukraine, not under a funded scheme but from our own funds. But we have two nephews, an uncle and family friends who have already paid the price with their lives. The threats from terror groups are higher than that of Putin, you realise that the UK is constantly on high alert for terrorism? But you still go about your everyday life. Unless your children are in the military then they are unlikely to be killed by Putin, but a far higher chance of being killed by another teenager with a knife or a terrorist attack. As a British person, it is unlikely in your lifetime that you will ever know the cost of true freedom - because you have never lived under occupation or through war.

It came up on my facebook feed. Starmer was being interviewed by a sky reporter. Would it still not stoke anxiety with the link? probably more so.

Not coming back to your thread with a link @Rubytuesday77

What a shock.

He has a better chance than anyone else in last two years, for the ME too

So many young men dying each day in this war, it's horrendous

Efrogwraig · 22/01/2025 19:38

I have been following the conflict in Ukraine since 2014. It is not as straightforward as the papers and other MSM lead us to believe, i.e. it's not entirely unprovoked and it's not "all Russia's fault" as they tell us. It's much more nuanced than that, and I must say I have been quite concerned that there is not at the very minimum more people in the government that at least call for some caution! Everyone is constantly running around all guns blazing calling for more and more offensive weapons to be sent to Ukraine and more and more money to keep this war going. Unfortunately, this only means more deaths and more destruction for Ukraine and brings us closer to the brink of either WWIII or a nuclear war and frankly I am not that sure that anyone in the government fully comprehends the implications. It's been too long since WWII and it's as if everyone has forgotten what it means to live through such a horrific event!

What are these nuances?

He has one son. He is below military age.

Putin talked about it. He said we have to send military personnel to operate the missiles we're using now and that legally according to Russia NATO are now in direct war with Russia

Not sure l would be listening to Putin on this...

DuncinToffee · 22/01/2025 19:46

Problem is that there are not a lot of imports from Russia and you cannot impose tariffs on nonexistent trade.
