What food from Waitrose do I need to try?

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 21/01/2025 00:00

I've never shopped at waitrose, apart from popping in for an emergency water bottle, kind of thing. I'm an Asda/Lidl budget shopper 🤭

I've got a voucher to use there for an online shop, £15 off of an £80 shop.

So which food would you recommend i buy? Which food tastes amazing and is a must try? I'm thinking of venison, never had that

Is the pasta superior? Any seasonings?

They sell the same food as Tesco, mate. Just pricier.

Definitely not!

witchycat2 · 21/01/2025 20:15

Their cinnamon buns are also delicious

And their croissant cups. Yummy.

Pin3martin · 21/01/2025 20:15

Their plants are good, selection of ice cream, wine , a few random cooking ingredients but I do find other than that our big Sainsbury is better. The quality of fruit and veg in Waitrose has dropped hugely.

They also do really tasty, good value Indian ready meals and snacks - the lamb madras is delicious

Also the fish curry is amazing.

soupfiend · 21/01/2025 20:17

I thought I read on here that they do a pure butter puff pastry ready rolled.

Definitely not!

They absolutely do sell the same as Sainsbury bar a few random things but then I find things in Sainsbury you can’t try in Waitrose.

Pin3martin · 21/01/2025 20:19

Much better choice and quality of ready meals in Sainsbury’s. Range is poor in Waitrose and the few they do have are suspiciously like Sainsbury.

IJulia · 21/01/2025 20:19

Nutty Nibbles (not a joke).
They are so delicious and addictive.
Only available at Waitrose IIRC.

rumblegrumble · 21/01/2025 20:23

The Cornish Quartz Cheddar and the No. 1 Greek Yoghurt. They also do wild sockeye salmon, plus a very nice balsamic glaze. And Dr. Karg's Spelt Crispbread.

Eraclea · 21/01/2025 20:25

Lemon yum yums as mentioned upthread

Sea salt feuilletine chocolate

Isle of Wight tomato boxes (my store stopped selling them after getting me hooked sadly)

Sicilian lemon tart (the no. 1 version)

Tofuwieners - yes, they’re pretend ultra-processes meat and ludicrously expensive, but I love them and have never seen them
anywhere else.

Barney16 · 21/01/2025 20:25

Chocolate covered malted milk biscuits, the pistachio croissants and their coffee bags.

Butteredtoast55 · 21/01/2025 20:31

I love their whipped feta dip and I like To ms dairy yogurts. Their fresh pasta sauces are good and I use their laundry liquid which is great. Bakery treats are often very nice, and their sliced granary bread.

ForSale2024 · 21/01/2025 20:32

Smoked houmous! Absolutely delicious, and I can only find it in Waitrose

No way! Their tzatziki is much nicer and I LOVE their labneh. Pair with some delicious dill or jalapeño crisps 😋😋😋.

Sugargliderwombat · 21/01/2025 20:34

Lemon possett - it's a brand, not waitrose own, but I've not seen it anywhere else.

LakieLady · 21/01/2025 20:36

Their blackcurrant jam is just lovely, really tangy and more-ish. I buy their Essentials mature farmhouse cheddar, which is better than Tesco's finest and cheaper, their Italian roast coffee beans, and the meats at the deli counter.

Weirdly, their Essentials bananas are nicer than any from Sainsburys or Tesco. They seem to have a lot more flavour.

dappledgreyandwhite · 21/01/2025 20:38

Tesco food is not the same, it just isn’t. Unless you are buying Heinz ketchup etc.
Balsamic tart is delicious. The organic produce is second to none. I love the fish counter they prepare for you with chosen butters, herbs etc. The quality of everything is very good.

It’s restaurant quality isn’t it.

StrawberrySquash · 21/01/2025 20:41

The big bar of dark chocolate for baking is good value.
Wine. Nice chocolate in general.
Loaker chocolate covered wafer biscuits.
Meat and fish in general are good.
The pasta that comes in a blue and gold box. Especially the tagliatelle. Not De Cecco!
The No 1 ice cream.

CharlotteCChapel · 21/01/2025 20:42

I'm not sure if they sell them at this time of year but if they do their buffalo burgers are out of this world. DH likes their spice jars.

Apfelkuchen · 21/01/2025 20:42

Huge blueberries and own brand new york cheesecake

Marble10 · 21/01/2025 20:44

The coleslaw is very good.

N0FunN0M0re · 21/01/2025 20:47

They do some own brand chocolate which is lovely and cheaper than some of the branded stuff. Also if they have any Heston Blumenthal foods those tend to be great. One thing I’ve started buying from them, although it might be available elsewhere cheaper, is a frozen soffrito mix with onion, celery and carrot, Such a useful base for soups/stews/chilli etc and saves me a lot of energy on chopping

Googleisyourfriend · 21/01/2025 19:56

It's the same food as anywhere tho🤔

Not really.

I'm addicted to Gail's seeded crackers but I have to reserve them for a treat.

There little jars of things they stock (Waitrose and other brands) are great. Unusual deli stuff; dips, falafels, cured meat, olives etc

Before Christmas I found their fresh treacle tart (as opposed to frozen) and it was so disappointingly teeny tiny. And not as unctuous as I'd hoped.

NordicwithTeen · 21/01/2025 20:49

Salted Caramel Croissant Cups - addicted to these with afternoon tea!
Their cheese straws are like my grandmas (cheese and poppy seed twists)
Only place we've found Capricciosa pizza
Celeriac remoulade
Artichoke pesto
Only place that sells globe artichokes (theme!)
Pistachio tiramisu
