What food from Waitrose do I need to try?

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 21/01/2025 00:00

I've never shopped at waitrose, apart from popping in for an emergency water bottle, kind of thing. I'm an Asda/Lidl budget shopper 🤭

I've got a voucher to use there for an online shop, £15 off of an £80 shop.

So which food would you recommend i buy? Which food tastes amazing and is a must try? I'm thinking of venison, never had that

Is the pasta superior? Any seasonings?

Do share x

Edit, spelling

You can get it all at Sainsbury's or Tesco. Same stuff, same labels- just costs more at Waitrose.

You, are Waitrosing wrong.

Probably 😁

To be honest if you are just going to Waitrose to buy the very same stuff you can buy anywhere then you are missing out. Be adventurous, and stray from the shopping list and forage into pastures new 😂😂

This was my thinking! But I do have to spend £80 so it might be a good idea to get some of my usual bits

I have found the staff in Lidl really sullen to the point of being downright rude.
The staff in Waitrose will actually show me where things are.

Omg the security guard in lidl still follows me around, I've been going there for 5 years with dd 🙄

The coffee shortbread has sold out and I'm blaming this thread. I was going to add some for my lovely mum.

I live on their red pepper hummus. It's the best I've had and not ultra processed like most. Unless you count lemon juice concentrate which I don't because it's not a large amount.

The Colombian coffee ice cream is good my mum says.

I use their Gold tea bags, weetabix, organic baked beans, breads, muffins (toasted, although now make my own). Their fruit is much better than Asda which is my closest supermarket although their clementines have been rubbish lately. The chilli cheddar is lovely. The veggie crispbakes. I bake a lot and use their essentials range for butter and flours. I use their bread flour for bread, pizza, muffins .

The offers are often good and their prices on basics are often cheaper than Asda. Kerrygold is usually cheaper at Waitrose.

Oh bless her 😄

Agree, might as well have good basics as well as good new things

I recommend their sushi. They do a £5 Meal deal where you can select sushi for main and sushi for the snack and then pick a fancy drink, adding up to way more than the fiver you pay! They do lovely fresh mushroom ravioli.
They also have fabulous selections of lovely biscuits, wines and cheeses. In summer they do half bottles of a lovely rose wine on special offer. V handy! ……I’m going to try ice-cream next after suggestions on here.

Sebsaloysius · 22/01/2025 22:49

Their spice pickled shallots. Divine!

THEIR ALMOND CROISSANTS!!!!!!!

Yes I agree, but choose a lightly baked packet. The dark ones are nowhere near as nice.

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 23/01/2025 03:08

There are a few things I can only get at Waitrose and I get the bus or a train to a nearby branch especially.

They do a great precooked cheese soufflé that just needs heating up in the oven. It's a delicious veggie option at a roast dinner and equally nice with a salad as a quick lunch or dinner.

The Red Choice tomatoes are delicious.

Their own brand Essential houmous is my favourite houmous.

i also love the sausages /sausage meat with nutmeg and black pepper . With the addition of some dry roasted fennel seeds and softened onion they make the best sausage rolls and Christmas stuffing I've ever eaten.

My adult DD loves the chicken Caesar salad so if she comes over for the night I buy one for her to take to work the next day.

The own brand champagne is also excellent. I drank a half bottle last night. It was delicious.

Finally - the frozen Sofrito mix is an absolute game changer. It's cheaper than buying the individual veg fresh and so quick and easy to fry as a starting point for any soup/chilli/casserole/stew/paella.

Don't they do a price match with Tesco? That's what I understood from the radio advert I heard.

Yes agree with you @ObliviousCoalmine

@LuluBlakey1 also you are just incorrect. They could have similar product coming from the same factory but very different specs.
Admittedly some products may be extremely similar e.g. milk and beef mince but WR have higher animal welfare standards than other retailers, that's what you pay for.

Notmollybutdolly · 23/01/2025 08:21

Madagascan vanilla custard mmmmmm
also if you need nappy bags their essential nappy bags are 1£ and the best smelling ones in my opinion.

I don't eat meat or fish or milk so that has bypassed me but it's good to know. Animal welfare standards are so horribly poor generally in food production.

However, in Hexham Waitrose this week, I picked up vegan products that I buy in Sainsbury's and Morrisons and they were 40% more expensive in Waitrose- same brand, same size.

I was in Waitrose a couple of hours back and the young man who served me was friendly, helpful and very polite. All the staff in there are really nice, never had a sullen one yet.

My nearest Lidl though, much as I do a fair bit of shopping in both Aldi and Lidl, Lidl hands down have the most miserable staff.

Whenever you get a friendly one, they leave after a month or so. 🙄

dappledgreyandwhite · 23/01/2025 20:25

Great ideas on here thanks op! I’m going to make a list

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 23/01/2025 21:13

So erm

My list is £200 😄😄😄🙈

Im gonna see if I can screenshot and upload but if not I'll type it up

Thanks everyone for your suggestions 🥰

Late entry but they do red shrimp with garlic and herb butter and omg they are some of the best prawns I've ever had - absolutely amazing (if you like seafood!)

ChestnutGrove · 23/01/2025 21:27

My daughter and my friend love the yum yums from the essentials range. £1.75 for 4

The mozarella stuffed meatballs in tomato sauce ! Divine.

Ordered those on the back of that recommendation. Good lord were they good. Thank you!

This is the info I came for!

Barneysmomma · 23/01/2025 22:49

We like the mixed tinned grapefruit, grapefruit high juice (no nasty sweeteners), pork & mozzarella meatballs, chicken sweet & sour, butter chicken, gammon steaks with mango salsa. Sorry that's probably an £80 shop!
Their essential loo rolls used to be better than Andrex but now very poor quality.

Vargas · 23/01/2025 22:55

French salted butter, salted popcorn, hummus, essential feta and halloumi, yogurts, bufala mozzarella, Jack Hawkins tomatoes!
