What food from Waitrose do I need to try?

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 21/01/2025 00:00

I've never shopped at waitrose, apart from popping in for an emergency water bottle, kind of thing. I'm an Asda/Lidl budget shopper 🤭

I've got a voucher to use there for an online shop, £15 off of an £80 shop.

So which food would you recommend i buy? Which food tastes amazing and is a must try? I'm thinking of venison, never had that

Is the pasta superior? Any seasonings?

Do share x

Tins of flageolet beans. Can’t find them anywhere else these days.

we buy them from Amazon, a tray of the French Daucy brand, we love them so much
but in emergencies, Waitrose !

There are some good things in Waitrose, you just need to be savvy.

Get a mywaitrose card - free coffee everyday (bring your own cup) and you get personalised offers. I get a coupon for 50p off their own bread every week, reducing it from £1 to 50p. I often get coupons for 50p off milk, eggs and other things I buy, making those items cheaper than the budget supermarkets.

I like their No1 pizzas. The best supermarket pizzas I've ever found.

Their fruit is good and lasts longer than other supermarkets IME. I often get it reduced at the end of the day (so on today's date) and it still lasts days.

At maximum price

Nowhere near as dear as Co-op.

BigDahliaFan · 21/01/2025 18:50

Sardine picante with chilli in the posh tin. So gorgeous.

their essentials range is very good.

Absolutely. So much of their stuff is a perfectly normal price and the shopping experience is much better than most places.

The pizzas are definitely better than other places, the bread is really nice and they have a much bigger choice in some sections.

OMG how have I never seen these, they sound amazing!!!

As pp have already said their fruit and veg lasts longer than any other supermarket. Their meat is good lots of organic meat if you choose that, but non- organic meat is supposedly higher - welfare .

My recommendations are:

Chicken
Indian ready meals
Essentials brie
Lemon or chocolate tart/torte.
Essentials blackcurrant cheese cake.
Their triffle flavour ice- cream
Essentials Vanilla ice- cream or raspberry ripple ( my children adore this)
Their tomato and chilli jam.
Essentials weetabix and rice pops
Coffee or lavender short bread.
Their chilli and prawn pizza
Essentials natural yoghurt.

Essentials and Waitrose own brand cleaning and laundry products are very good too.

BiggerBoat1 · 21/01/2025 18:55

Their fruit fools are lovely.

Bollihobs · 21/01/2025 18:58

Ooh and their own brand granola, much better quality than Tesco etc. and very nearly half the price!!

fromthegecko · 21/01/2025 19:12

Pistachio tira misu

Coronation tear & share bread

Hoochyvida · 21/01/2025 19:13

I shop between waitrose and Tesco. Lots of things cheaper in each place.

I love Waitrose Japanese range, their salmon en croute, Belgian white choc ice cream, the spinach and carrot rice from the Indian section with their korma is lovely and their hot rotisserie chicken cant be beaten. They do a lovely edamame/wheatgerm mix which is great for a quick meal.

And I like the yoghurt coleslaw. And a supergreen salad which has been on offer in Jan.

So quite a lot.

Basque cheesecake is delicious

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 21/01/2025 19:20

Waiteose has the best selection of cheese of any supermarket in my opinion, lots of varieties you don't get in any other supermarkets so I always stock up on that

It's also good for different types and cuts of meat (that you can get at butchers but not other supermarkets)

I really like their own brand chocolate especially the dark milk one.

They do a good own brand white chocolate ice cream. Their truffle saucisson is also good.

Otherwise they have good ingredients so if you have any recipes where you struggle to find ingredients outside specialist shops, it's worth looking for them

dairyfairy21 · 21/01/2025 19:45

I love Aivar

Great dip! Hot or mild

SexAndCakes · 21/01/2025 19:47

Came on to say this.

Agree with all this. And the salami with nuts is even better than the truffle one

The Cooks Ingredients range is really good - their cinnamon sticks for example are better than any of the usual brands. The curry pastes are pretty good too although the garlic and ginger pastes were a bit underwhelming.

My local one now has various Ottolenghi marinades and spice mixes which are very tempting as a “feed guests” shortcut but I haven’t tried them yet.

Jennifershuffles · 21/01/2025 19:55

I rate their own brand Belgian chocolate

Googleisyourfriend · 21/01/2025 19:56

It's the same food as anywhere tho🤔

EvelynBeatrice · 21/01/2025 19:57

Sweet potato falafels

NoodleDoodleDandy · 21/01/2025 20:00

The own brand Prosecco is really nice, as is their Béarnaise sauce.

DC1214 · 21/01/2025 20:07

Essential pork sausages. They’re so much nicer than other supermarkets’ higher price point ranges.

Icantfindanewname · 21/01/2025 20:12

Their lemon curd. I have conducted extensive research of other brands, and ranges within the brands, and nothing touches it. Top tip, if you are opening a jar to add to buttercream (recommended), or make into tarts, DO NOT lick the spoon. All of a sudden, the jar will be empty 😛
