Which way do you stand in the shower?!

So, I’ve spent my whole life facing ‘forwards’ as in, back to the mixer. And for some unknown reason today I flip it and stand facing the shower/ mixer and woah, a new world? Why did nobody tell me it’s about 2782929 times easier to wash my hair this way around 😂

got me thinking- what’s the normal way?!

I had the same realisation just last year.

i still face forward but I now also turn around to a finish rinse of my hair.i find the back of my head gets more water/more direct water on it if I face the shower rather than have my back to it.

im just as surprised as you. Particularly the part where I had never thought to do it before!

fivebyfivebuffy · 10/01/2025 02:07

Back to the shower but I spin around to rinse my front!
Don't like getting water in my face

EBearhug · 10/01/2025 02:11

I move round to get different bits of me wet/rinsed.

corvidconvo · 10/01/2025 02:24

I don't like the spray in my face, so I mostly have my back to it and especially when rinsing my hair. I do turn around, though, depending on what I'm washing or rinsing and which product I need to use next.

Haha! Same here I thought the shower standing police were going to be after me!
funny though isn’t it all these things you do by routine every day and some are just because whichever caregiver happened to show /tell you how to do and you just never questioned it… 40 odd years later..!

I spin around depending on which part of me wants warm water on it

paranoiaofpufflings · 10/01/2025 02:35

Radical twist - I have a "rainfall" shower and stand right underneath it!

Oooooh!! I have not reached these dizzying heights of adulthood yet. One day 😂🙏

I rotate under the shower head.

MilkMilkLemomade · 10/01/2025 03:16

I rotate. I also lift the shower head off to direct water where I need to rinse.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 10/01/2025 03:24

I stand facing out but I was just talking about this with DH as on TV, they always seem to stand face in. And now, thanks to this thread, the idea of rotating has added a whole new dimension! I have no idea why I stand face out, I just thought that’s what you’re supposed to do 😂. I might try face in in the morning!

Christmasgiraffe · 10/01/2025 03:30

I rotate constantly like a rotisserie chicken.

Woahhhhh don’t give me more options to have to mull over!! 🤯

I begin facing forwards, then I rotate, then have a rinse facing backwards. Next I stand on my tiptoes facing into the room, and then squat. I never face the window. I have a rainfall shower and a handheld shower head for more accurate rinsing.

MintSass · 10/01/2025 06:38

I start turned away from the taps but I tend to spin around like a doner kebab.

Wow, I find it really strange that some people face the shower. How do you wash your hair without getting it all over your face when you rinse? Just seems a really unpleasant way to do it! I face away most of the time and turn when I wash my body.

Brainded · 10/01/2025 06:51

I find it really strange that some of you stand still in the shower!! I presume everyone rotated around 🤣🤣

If you stand close enough the water starts at your forehead and goes behind you.

This is majorly impacted by the height of the other people using the shower. If you live with someone much taller then your shower is like a rainfall shower. If you are all a similar height then the possibilities are endless.

I am in the ‘rotate like a donner, remove the handset for an intimate rinse’ brigade.

Not sure I can get onboard with squatting. May try. Doubt I will adopt.

Bingbopboom · 10/01/2025 06:55

Facing the taps, I can’t see shit without my glasses but I can see things close by like the taps etc and I prefer to face on something my eyes can actually see if that makes sense, rather than facing out the glass and just seeing nothing but blurriness

Oblomov25 · 10/01/2025 06:56

Doesn't everyone rotate?

Midnightjowel · 10/01/2025 07:00

Omg so there’s a lot of rotaters? It never occurred to me to rotate 😂😭

OP posts:
CynicalSunni · 10/01/2025 07:05

Rotater here too. But when standing still i face the wall because that's where the shampoo etc lives.

Me too! Wouldn’t be without one now - after a night on the cosleeping tiles with toddler DS, I can’t face the day without being battered to near-death with scalding water. Finest four minutes of my day.
