Which way do you stand in the shower?!

So, I’ve spent my whole life facing ‘forwards’ as in, back to the mixer. And for some unknown reason today I flip it and stand facing the shower/ mixer and woah, a new world? Why did nobody tell me it’s about 2782929 times easier to wash my hair this way around 😂

got me thinking- what’s the normal way?!

I mostly sit on the floor or sometimes even lie in the bath to wash my legs. However, I have POTS and standing isn't really friendly to me. If standing, then spinning is always the way to go to avoid any cold bits and ensure everywhere gets rinsed.

I rotate. I also lift the shower head off to direct water where I need to rinse.

This.

The only way. And I'm surprised people don't rotate as standard!!

Printedword · 10/01/2025 08:22

Mostly back to the water flow, but facing it during hair wash. It's hard water here and I have the sort of hair that's hard to get really wet so some days are more hair shower days when I concentrate on that.

My relatively recent revelation was how enjoyable and effective - cleanliness wise - having a bath is. I thought for years I didn't have time to have a bath, now I make time.

Ahh yes! I grew up with a water tank so if you were allowed a bath (maybe once a month tops) you’d have to have the water on for about 3 hours beforehand and it was about as deep as a sheet of paper so completely not enjoyable 😂 definitely love a good bath now.

We have a rainfall shower head and a handheld one. If I'm washing my hair I stand facing out with my head back and use the handheld bit to do a good rinse.
If I'm not washing my hair I stand facing in with my head back to keep my hair out of the water and use the hand held bit for a final body rinse.

I don't like baths at all but I love a good hot tub.

But does your hair actually stay dry?! Everytime we stay in a hotel with one of these fancy showers my heart drops because I wash my hair every other day but it just ends up getting drenched in those ones!

I think everyone has a direction they always face in the shower.
Nobody is rotating continuously a la superman.
I always face the wall to the left when not in motion. Rotate when wetting hair for shampoo but face away when washing shampoo out.

LivingOnTheVeg · 10/01/2025 08:41

If I’m washing my hair I stand under the shower facing away from it, but if I’m not washing my hair I face towards it to keep my hair out.

BCBird · 10/01/2025 08:44

Always face the spray

Ilovemyshed · 10/01/2025 08:45

I rotate, then flip on the drench to fully rinse hair.

paranoiaofpufflings · 10/01/2025 02:35

Radical twist - I have a "rainfall" shower and stand right underneath it!

Me too 😁

StarlightLady · 10/01/2025 08:48

May l slightly digress. I think l was the first person to come out as a “rotator”. 😀 I travel a lot for work and hate it when I’m in an hotel where the shower head is on a rigid pipe (permanently) fixed to the wall. My handstand skills are poor and l do not like to perform gymnast’s tricks in the shower to wash my bits!

Frostine · 10/01/2025 08:48

Back to the shower but I spin around to rinse my front
Don't like getting water in my face . I've also got dodgy ears so protect them with cotton wool and a little vaseline as recommended by an audiologist .

Onlyvisiting · 10/01/2025 08:50

Midnightjowel · 10/01/2025 07:00

Omg so there’s a lot of rotaters? It never occurred to me to rotate 😂😭

I think it must depend on the type of shower. My ceiling is low so it sprays out at a bit of an angle not downwards. If I didn't rotate like rotisserie chicken then half my body wouldn't get wet! To rinse my hair I stand with my back to it and tip my head backwards. Facing would just be waterboarding myself, or I'd have to plaster my front to the wall and its my head right back to get it to run backwards and not down my front.
Basic shower routine for cleaning body is wet everywhere, step out of the spary or turn it off, soap everywhere then rinse whole body. Rotating or contorting as required to do so effectively.
And def remove the shower head to better rinse lower body.

Zoggs swimmer’s ear plugs are your friend.

Theres a meme or reel or something going around at the moment that claims most women have their back to the shower and most men face it. I don't see how this could be true but I'm a woman and I face away so....

OldTinHat · 10/01/2025 09:21

Back to the shower. I panic if water flows over my face!

CurlewKate · 10/01/2025 09:22

I was watching a 1970s American cop show recently and noticed that a character had two showers and both times faced the spray leaning with his hands against the wall. Mind you, in one of these showers he was stabbed, so maybe not to be recomended? 🤣

KimberleyClark · 10/01/2025 09:35

I have both a rainfall and a detachable. The latter is of the right height that I can wash my body without getting my hair wet. I mostly stand facing the shower but turn around to wash my bum. Use the rainfall to wash my hair.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 10/01/2025 09:42

I face outwards, and take the shower head off if I need to rinse somewhere more directedly (is that a word?) Recently I was speaking to DM who said she never takes the shower head off which I thought downright weird, but then I thought about those rainfall type showers which don't have a removable head. Is it normal then not to take it down to target hair/pits/bits? What do you do?

Catza · 10/01/2025 09:43

I take the shower head off and move it depending on where I need more water... too radical?

They usually come with a second attachment with a smaller head.

SnowballSandwich · 10/01/2025 09:45

@Midnightjowel
Yes as long as I pile it on top of my head with a claw clip.
Occasionally I get a bit of spray at the back of my neck if I turn round to rinse my back but nothing major. I have wavy hair that I generally straighten, it frizzes easily so I wouldn't do it if it didn't work.

Namechangedforgoodreasons · 10/01/2025 09:46

I move around but mostly sideways to the mixer. (If I stand with back to the mixer I am facing large mirror on bathroom wall outside shower and it’s not a pretty sight.)

Teenagerantruns · 10/01/2025 09:49

I'm a rotator, always take attachment off to rinse difficult to reach areas...never really thought about this before.🤣
