Anyone else hate the expectation to shave down there?

Is anyone else fed up of the expectation/strong preference for going completely shave pubic hair? I’m female and have only had male partners, but prepared to believe women have this expectation too if others have experienced it. I mean each to their own, but personally I find it feels child-like. Has anyone managed to find a compromise with their partner on this?

YABU- It’s nice to do things for your partner

Since being in my late 50s, it has gravitated from down there and now sprouts out of my chin.

TheJackalsJackal · 29/12/2024 22:38

My DH doesn’t like it smooth like a baby, just neatly trimmed. Suits me. I’ve tried a bit of everything but agree with his choice thankfully. That said he’s happy to just get near it like most men so do what you like! As we all should.

RareNewt · 29/12/2024 22:39

No expectations, I shave, trim and leave it to grow. My hubby loves it all

ChishiyaBat · 29/12/2024 22:39

I'm not shaving my bush for anyone. Don't like my hair then you aren't deserving of my time.

DissidentDaughter · 29/12/2024 22:40

There’s a difference between personal preference and an imposed expectation. Just as a quick tidy-up is not the same as the (most likely) time-consuming, physically punishing, hair-free sex doll look.

As for the back, sack, crack nonsense… 😖

ShortyShorts · 29/12/2024 22:40

I'm not a fan of shaving so I simply don't do it.

I do however think it's strange that people always bring 'pre-pubescencey' into these threads.

I'm 55, if I shaved my fanny and any child's pubic area even remotely resembled mine after I've had 3 vaginal births, I'd be phoning the poor kid an ambulance and ringing ahead to the hospital!

BIossomtoes · 29/12/2024 22:40

I got rid of mine once and could feel every thread in my knickers. Awful. Never again.

I gather that very young women now are rejecting depilation entirely and leave all their body hair alone. Good for them, I wish my generation had too.

GetyourheadoutoftheovenIris · 29/12/2024 22:42

I have regular waxes. I don’t like pubic hair on me. I’m mid 40s and have never had anyone tell me that it’s ’child like’ because I don’t sleep for stupid twats

DH is very hairy and I love it on him but if he got rid of everything that’s fine too.

I think that it’s really personal though. I like to have a full wax because I like it. I feel cleaner, no stragglers peeking out of my bikini bottoms and no sweaty bush.

cariadlet · 29/12/2024 22:42

I'm in my late 50s and have never shaved or trimmed. I had a lot of sexual partners when I was young and not one expected it.

Fair enough if you do it for yourself but if it's an expectation for young women then that's really sad. Yet another thing - like slapping, choking and spitting - that comes from modern porn.

Nano234 · 29/12/2024 22:42

The expectation is from me ... I thought we all shaved for general tidiness :/

What do most people do with their pubic hair? I'm in my 40s and feel like people don't share much. So I'm not sure if what I do is normal!

I’m 35 and, in the words of Sarah Millican, “I just try to keep it in my pants” 😂

Nothing worse than going for a swim and realising in the changing rooms that it looks like Hagrid is trying to escape from between your legs!

I agree so much with the pre-pubescence comments!

Im 35 and completely hair free down there, and when I look in the mirror I see the sexy, curvaceous woman that I am, not a child.

GetyourheadoutoftheovenIris · 29/12/2024 22:44

I assume that anyone old enough to have pubic hair is probably too old to be saying ‘down there’.

tellmesomethingtrue · 29/12/2024 22:44

I beg to differ... when someone is eating you out... you'll look like a child.

Assuming that was aimed at me, I’ll probably phrase it any way I like! You knew what I meant, completely unnecessary comment.

Just asked my boyfriend if this is the case and he laughed at me and said “never once have I thought that!”

fluffyblanky · 29/12/2024 22:47

It's ironic that so many are saying your body your choice, but many are going eww at being bald.

That’s what swimming shorts are for!

babyproblems · 29/12/2024 22:49

Surprised at so many saying they’ve never felt any pressure! I’m under 40 and I’ve always felt pressured / thought everyone did too! As far as I know (I’d be surprised if it was lies) all of my girl friends have either none or very little or regularly get it taken off to some degree! Wondered if it was an age thing. Being hairy hasn’t been fashionable once since I’ve been between say 18/20- now! Would be interested in it coming back into fashion actually for a change 😂😂😂

I’ve also found this interesting!
Anyone on here that’s bald has just said that’s because it’s how they like it, but haven’t made any digs at women who prefer not to shave.
But the amount of non-shavers making digs at us bald “ sex dolls” (as someone upthread said 🤣) is interesting!

er… it’s in the actual thread title

No the opposite. Only this very evening my DH asked me not to shave for once and grow it out a bit to “mix it up” I said no way!

Some men find the spiky bits from growing out cause them some discomfort :)

tellmesomethingtrue · 29/12/2024 22:51

Sorry @CandyCane457 that did make me chuckle. Your choice.

Runkle · 29/12/2024 22:52

Never in 13 years has DP mentioned it. Nor previous partners.
