Bit annoying considering they also share the same surname!

I know no one owns a name, but it's pretty annoying.

Aibu?

yes.

Care to elaborate?

Yes

StormingNorman · 20/12/2024 19:40

On MN nobody owns a name. In the real world it’s fucking weird and annoying that they didn’t choose a different name.

You don't own a name.

RhaenysRocks · 20/12/2024 19:40

Husband's cousin? Not exactly closely related...please get over yourself on this. You are 100% right and you don't own a name. For all you know his wife has had that name picked out for years.

ThatLilacExpert · 20/12/2024 19:41

RhaenysRocks · 20/12/2024 19:39

yes.

@shoulde I am with you. I find it revolting. Didn't your husband's cousin use his brain or sensibility? I would just ignore this cousin and go on with your life. Y

TeenToTwenties · 20/12/2024 19:41

Second cousins.
Unless you live in same place, mix a lot and similar ages it is a non issue I think.

Flyylf · 20/12/2024 19:41

Sorry but get a grip

OAPapparently · 20/12/2024 19:41

I think it depends on the name. If it’s a name like Thomas and is really well used then you are being unreasonable, if it’s a more unusual choice, then yes I would be annoyed too, especially as you say they have the same surname. Infact scrap the first bit I said. The fact that it’s same first name and surname is quite off.

There are infinite names available, I think that's what's so annoying.

Wouldn't care as much if they didn't also share the same surname!

They're only 3 years apart in age too.

All this

RhaenysRocks · 20/12/2024 19:42

There are 4 Jacks in my relatively immediate family. It was the name of a favourite paternal grandfather and is a family name. Its not an issue.

SouthLondonMum22 · 20/12/2024 19:42

How often do you see each other and how popular is the name?

If the name is something like Alfie or Henry then I couldn’t get worked up about it.

BourbonsAreOverated · 20/12/2024 19:42

Get that email address sharpish!
unless it’s a family name, what an odd thing to do

Do you socialise a lot with them?

Dulra · 20/12/2024 19:42

My cousin has the same name as me, she's older so I i must ask my mum what her sil thought when she named me. I have never considered it weird

Exactly!

They have exactly the same name.

Your DH's cousin's child is your child's second cousin. How big a deal is that, really? I would have to sit down and think very hard to even count how many second cousins our kids have.

AppleDumplings · 20/12/2024 19:43

There are 8 people in my family with the same name. 8. Edited to clarify I only share my surname with 4 of them 😂

Completely agree, but this is Mumsnet 😅

Well they are the ones lacking imagination...

AlbertCamusflage · 20/12/2024 19:44

YABVVU, unless the name is something very very unusual.
