Just to say, I’m not complaining

I ordered a big order of Christmas presents a few weeks ago just over £100 and it was left on my door step and one of the items for £15 had a damaged soggy box which was going to be present so I contracted costumer services to ask for a replacement/return for only this 1 item and they refunded the WHOLE order and replaced my item, gob smacked.

last week I ordered a spare breast pump but then I managed to borrow one from my local feeding team so requested a return last night and they said refund complete, no need to return. The pump is sealed in the box, why on earth wouldn’t they want me to return it? It’s £70

Do they just have so much money it doesn’t matter?

Wow, fabulous customer service though if you don’t have to fight for a refund like everywhere else but i agree a bit odd

indecisivewoman81 · 09/12/2024 07:43

We've had something similar with Amazon before. I just think they are so rich that it's a drop in the bucket ocean for them and not worth the hassle especially with Xmas

Bjorkdidit · 09/12/2024 07:48

I think it's just not worth their time to do anything other than refund the entire order.

I was surprised to receive the 'we are processing your refund' email before I'd left the shop where I dropped off a £300 coffee machine that we'd had for a month and decided that it was too big, noisy and faffy for our needs so decided to return it.

I don't know what they'd have done if we'd broken it or sent them back a box of old books. Although I suppose they could have charged my card again.

amoreoamicizia · 09/12/2024 07:50

This happened to me when I ordered fairly often with them in the past, but when I had an issue with something last year I did indeed have to send it back which was a pain because it was a large item I had to take to the Post Office and stand in a queue for ages. I think it might depend on how much you order with them.

Hemiola · 09/12/2024 07:52

Yup, I kept an item worth £900! I was shocked at the time too!

TheDandyLion · 09/12/2024 07:52

They haven't pay corp tax and they send their CEO into space. Yes they have that much money it doesn't matter.

Laiste · 09/12/2024 07:54

I've had the same recently. But from Next !

I ordered a large haul of clothes for DD4 (9) - mostly school uniform - and when it arrived half of it wasn't there and one item was a 6 year old boy's trousers Confused

I rang with the numbers of the missing items and the lady said she'd send them immediately, not to bother returning the trousers, and that for the inconvenience she's make some reimbursement.

Well i the missing items arrived the next morning and i got a refund for the whole order!
Surely an error ? but Happy days 😃

A lot of the stuff is trash and they allow for this in the pricing. Bezos is still laughing all the way to the bank, don't worry.

KrisAkabusi · 09/12/2024 07:55

They don't know that you haven't opened it though, so for hygiene reasons they can't sell it on.

Ihatewinding · 09/12/2024 07:56

Are you a regular customer? We order so much that I keep getting emails inviting me to get a business account membership 🙈 never had any issues with returning stuff/refunds, even big ticket things

Yes I do order a lot from there, maybe they see me as trust worthy now Grin

No but on the options where it asks you why you are returning it i have stated it’s unopened

It’s lulling us into a false sense of security while they take over the World.. and no I’m not joking!
Do you know how much of the world’s critical information resides in their data centres?

Edited

That will have been a 3rd party seller through Amazon, rather than Amazon itself.

Everything in the cloud is in someone’s data centres, and actually the most sensitive stuff like critical national infrastructure won’t be on the cloud. Amazon are providing a service, not plotting to take over the world.

Zippidydoodah · 09/12/2024 08:06

I was really disappointed to have to return two phone cases I bought, which were meant to be mag safe but weren’t magnetic 🙄 They were only about a tenner each but I still had to travel out and queue up etc. I’ve read so many stories like this thread where they say refund given and keep the item.

Doesn't matter. They can't sell it in case you did use it and it would cost them more in time to process it and dispose of it than just to let you keep it.

They paid all the corporation tax that the law requires.

Covidwoes · 09/12/2024 08:11

@PortiasBiscuit are they inside the Covid vaccine too via a data chip, sponsored by Bill Gates and Bezos? 🤣

Pippinsdiary · 09/12/2024 08:12

Ok but it’s got one of those thin plastic seals on it so it’s pretty impossible for me to have resealed it 🤷🏼‍♀️

There's a very depressing but interesting documentary on Netflix about how much stuff they dump in landfill and how much they've drive consumer spending and waste.
They are very much part of the massive problems that your kids will inherit.
But don't worry, fill your boots.

The funny thing is that Amazon video have removed their content from Amazon web services and put it in a data centre (I.e. they are no longer using their own cloud) as it is more cost effective. Hilarious.

I’ve just had similar with Sephora. They just told me to keep £200 worth of perfume and make up that I didn’t order. I offered to send it back but they just replaced my own missing order and said not to bother returning the stuff sent in error. On the other hand Amazon have always asked me to return everything so it seems a bit hit and miss whether they just let you keep rather than refund.

Heatherbell1978 · 09/12/2024 08:15

I've had two kids Kindle Fires replaced within the 2 year warranty. Both cracked screens. I was ready to send photos and argue my case but both times they just immediately replaced (using online chat) without any evidence. Not complaining either but was very surprised!
