Are all cinemas this expensive now?

Just went to book odeon for me and my 6yo tonight. £35 for non Premier seats! Which means I can't afford to go to the cinema anymore. Wild! Anyone else got the same problem? I'm a bit gutted!

OP posts:

£15 adult and child at the odeon, cheaper at the vue and at our local independent one.

I was actually impressed by the seats and the space you get when we went the other week. I recently paid £30+ for a theatre seat so small you can barely fit an arse cheek on.

Apsndbd · 29/11/2024 07:49

£6-7 at vue, snacks often cost me as much as the seats

fairytailcat · 29/11/2024 07:51

£20 for adult and child at the Odeon

Popcorn prices are ludicrous. I buy my own in the supermarket

Elvisgotitrightaboutchristmas · 29/11/2024 07:52

It's not worth it anymore, the films don't stay in the cinemas long either so unless you see them on opening weekend you won't get to see them unless you can turn up at 2:34 on a Tuesday when the moon is rising.

There's also no point everyone saying the price of their local cinemas because not everyone has a Vue near them!

Catza · 29/11/2024 07:53

I highly recommend Odeon membership. When I lived in London, I paid £22 a month and could go to as many shows for free as I wanted. The cinema was only 5 min down the road and, honestly, I spent most winter evenings there as it was warm and cosy and, basically an extension of my living room. Oh, how I miss it..

ETA: I just checked and the membership is now 14.99 for a standard and 17.99 for lux. So it is even a better deal. Alas, there is no Odeon near me and Vue don't offer the same.

NotMeNoNo · 29/11/2024 07:56

I just checked our local Showcase de luxe and it's £34 for a 4 person group ticket. Normal seats £8-10.

OP where in the country? Is it for a luxury package or just basic seats?

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 29/11/2024 07:58

There are so many deals now I don't think many people pay full price, octopus, meerkat, blue light all give 2 odeon tickets for around 10-12 pounds , you also have things like kids pass that do v heavily discounted tickets and you can sign up for a trial and cancel again. There will be loads of others too. You just need to shop around

ETA those prices are for the local odeon, the Vue which is further away is £5 a ticket at all times. We're just outside London

Lurleene · 29/11/2024 08:00

I was going to be charged a similar price at Odeon for two tickets to Paddington but luckily I can purchase cheaper tickets through work so got them for 15 quid as opposed to 45!

Do you have Amazon Prime? If so you can get a pair of Odeon tickets for £10 once a month, but this offer can only be used Monday to Friday. Just search Odeon on the site to find the offer.

Summervibes24 · 29/11/2024 08:00

If you're on O2 - their priority app does 2 vue tickets for £9 which is a better deal than Meerkat as you can use on any day where Meerkat is only Tues or Wed.

Are you sure that price is correct?Manchester city centre odeon is £16 for adult and child for Moana 2 released today

LakieLady · 29/11/2024 08:03

Our local independent cinema charges £10 at weekends, £9 Mon-Thurs.

It doesn't get the latest blockbuster movies though, and is a not-for-profit venture.

Rocknrollstar · 29/11/2024 08:04

Our local Vue is £5.95. We smuggle in sweets and popcorn and sometimes cocktails in cans

sandgrown · 29/11/2024 08:05

Do you have a recreational association at work? Ours offer reduced price cinema tickets ?

KeenCat · 29/11/2024 08:06

£6.99 a ticket if you book online at our local Vue. I paid just under £10 a ticket for last minute tickets the other night.

Velvian · 29/11/2024 08:06

Our Odeon is £5 and Vue is £4.99 to £7.99. I remember it got to £45 just for the tickets a few years ago for us to go to the cinema, thankfully it's half that now.

The food and drink is where they get us now. 😅

Divebar2021 · 29/11/2024 08:08

My Picturehouse is £9.99 for a regular seat but I had a ridiculous membership offer which gave me 10 free tickets. I also have the opportunity for the £1 films but I haven’t used that yet. I love going - it’s a much better experience than watching a film at home.
(Look out for various 2 for 1 offers as mentioned - The Times have one and Blue Light cards give discounts as do many other places I’m sure.)

Gymmum82 · 29/11/2024 08:08

Cineworld by me is £13 adults and £8 kids. Odeon luxe is £15 a seat.

I have a perks at work thing which makes it £8 adult and £5 child. Does your work have anything like that?

mondaytosunday · 29/11/2024 08:08

I just checked and it's £24 for a standard child plus adult ticket near me. 🤯

Looseloose · 29/11/2024 08:08

Have you got an independent cinema? Ours do a max price of £5. We always go there if they have it on because if don't use it we will loose it.

mindutopia · 29/11/2024 08:08

Only these awful shitty big commercial ones. We only have an independent cinema where we live (Vue and Odeon both 1+ hours away). £6.50 per adult and £4.50 per child and they do special showings regularly, like Dh and dd saw Jurassic Park last year for like £8 per ticket but that included a drink and medium popcorn. It’s also small cinemas so very private, one of which has armchairs and sofas, for same price.

devildeepbluesea · 29/11/2024 08:09

I paid £10 at my local Odeon last Friday for an adult and a child.

Whammyammy · 29/11/2024 08:10

Stopped going to the cinema during covid. Over priced and awful experience, in a room.full of people coughing, sneezing, talking etc.
Cinemas have had their day.

catlesslady · 29/11/2024 08:11

Just in case anyone is looking for the cheap Odeon tickets a few people have mentioned- you need to sign up for a free MyOdeon account to get these, then make sure you are logged in and book online. There seem to be a few locations that don't offer this but most places it's £5 for a standard ticket or £7 for the upgraded seats

xyzandabc · 29/11/2024 08:11

Our local Vue cinema has £5.99 seats for most films. I was looking in advance last weekend and if I'd booked the day before, there were some at £2.99.
The other 2 cinemas within an hour's drive are much more expensive though

Rooroobear · 29/11/2024 08:11

We have a reel cinema near us and every day they do movie madness or something like that. £3.99 a ticket before 1pm. Absolutely fantastic value and I always go on a Sunday with mine for that price
