Are all cinemas this expensive now?

Just went to book odeon for me and my 6yo tonight. £35 for non Premier seats! Which means I can't afford to go to the cinema anymore. Wild! Anyone else got the same problem? I'm a bit gutted!

Vue cinema does cheaper seats than that usually. It's drinks and snacks that make it expensive

DustyLee123 · 29/11/2024 07:31

Compare the meerkat gives two for one tickets, so buy an insurance through them to qualify

WomenInConstruction · 29/11/2024 07:31

That would have cost me £12 at my local cinema.
But I've had similar experience to you at big chain cinema and thought my cinema days were over!

Melonportal · 29/11/2024 07:32

Tickets at the Vue cinema next to me are £4.99 each

Sethera · 29/11/2024 07:32

Nowhere near that price at my local Vue - depending on screen and position of seat they charge from £4.99 to around a tenner.

Flippingflamingo · 29/11/2024 07:32

Our odeon is always £5 a seat.

And you can get a one day travel insurance for a couple of quid that your not going to use just to unlock the deals

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 29/11/2024 07:32

Where abouts? Central London yes, outside no

Sirzy · 29/11/2024 07:33

one adult one child at our local oden (a luxe one) is £15

Nogaxeh · 29/11/2024 07:33

I think they have some sort of membership they want you to sign up to, where you pay every month even if you don't go at all, and so they make the normal tickets very expensive as an encouragement to sign up to membership.

As I'm living in a very rural area of Ireland the two nearest cinemas are both independent, so normal tickets are more reasonably priced.

Ineffable23 · 29/11/2024 07:33

My local cinema is £13 a month for all films, or £9 for an adult ticket and £7 for a child ticket.

Odeon, I think you can get a discount with Compare the Market possibly, and definitely with Octopus energy if you have those. Octopus is two tickets for a tenner.

RedRiverShore5 · 29/11/2024 07:33

Vue is often cheaper if you have one near and is always the one that gets offers, like the free Sky tickets, we haven't got a Vue nearby just a very expensive Cineworld

TTPDTS · 29/11/2024 07:34

It's about £8-£12 per ticket at our local Vue. Spend way more on snacks though 😂

Gorgonemilezola · 29/11/2024 07:34

Our local town hall cinema is £5 (with a cuppa and a biscuit) as long as you don't mind waiting a couple of months for new releases.

kikisparks · 29/11/2024 07:35

Odeon non luxe is £5 a seat. If you have octopus you can get discounts on luxe.
Vue prices vary but with Priority (o2 or virgin media contract) you can get 2 for £9 or 4 for £18
Also if you have blue light or any kind of workplace perks you can usually get money off.
And meerkat movies as referenced.

kikisparks · 29/11/2024 07:35

Also with sky cinema you get 2 free vue tickets per month.

Sparxdislike · 29/11/2024 07:35

£5-£7.99 a ticket here unless it's a 4d screening

jkshdqpr · 29/11/2024 07:36

£35 for 2 seats? No that's insane, I don't think I even paid that on Leicester Square? My local cinema charges £10.95 for the leather recliner seats, I don't mind paying that as it's all been refurbished and it's lovely. I love going to the cinema.

daffodilandtulip · 29/11/2024 07:37

We've got cineworld. £8.99 a ticket (but also £1.40 an hour parking).

westisbest1982 · 29/11/2024 07:42

I’m assuming you looked at one of those luxury chains (Curzon or Everyman)? If so that’s an OK price for the experience.

Cinema tickets at the Odeon or Vue in my city range from £6 - £10.

Our Cineworld appears to be £14.99 for cheapest seats unless you are a child but it's fairly new and I have noticed that all Cineworlds are not equal regarding price.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 29/11/2024 07:44

Yes, we have the same at Odeon Bournemouth - it's shocking. I use my Meerkat code wherever possible but it's still expensive!

Clearinguptheclutter · 29/11/2024 07:45

Crazy. Our cinema is £12 per adult,£8 for a child or £35 for a family ticket. Seats are huge and dead comfy.

Shedoesasshepleases · 29/11/2024 07:46

£1 for Film Club at Picturehouse for members. I go every week to see a new film.

RedRiverShore5 · 29/11/2024 07:47

You have probably got a posh version of the cinema like me, OP
