Are all cinemas this expensive now?

Just went to book odeon for me and my 6yo tonight. £35 for non Premier seats! Which means I can't afford to go to the cinema anymore. Wild! Anyone else got the same problem? I'm a bit gutted!

The Everyman is cheaper than that. £13 each for non members

coffeesaveslives · 29/11/2024 08:44

£4.99 each at our local Vue if you buy online.

Needmorelego · 29/11/2024 08:49

I googled Odeon and even though prices do vary on location I really can't see how you got to £35 for one adult and one child.
You must have accidentally picked some kind of special offer - like food included or something.

Fluufer · 29/11/2024 08:51

Ours starts at about £3.50 for old kids movies. Current films start at £4.99. I think it's quite reasonable still.
We have an small independent cinema that is a couple of £s more.

That depends on which one you go to and when. If I want to see Gladiator 2 tonight at the Everyman in Cambridge, my ticket costs £17.10.

PineappleCoconut · 29/11/2024 08:53

It was £23.00 a ticket for Wicked at my nearest Odeon on a weekday afternoon this week. And I live in the sticks.

With the Amazon Prime offer it went down to £23 for both. I have no idea how as it was meant to be £15 as it's a luxe, but it was an improvement on full price.

hattie43 · 29/11/2024 08:59

Cineworld £11 for an adult no discount seat

EdgyDreamer · 29/11/2024 09:01

Depending on when and which multiplex it's between £7.50-£10 per ticket.

It's not cheap for group/family outings.

The local arts center gets new films very quickly and they are £2.50 to £3.50 - we see more there now or wait just a bit before they end up on one of the subscription services.

Needmorelego · 29/11/2024 09:03

@PineappleCoconut was that £23 for 1 adult and 1 child?

RampantIvy · 29/11/2024 09:05

Our nearest cinemas are about £7 per seat, and Vue is £4.99.

LittleRedRidingHoody · 29/11/2024 09:05

I need to move, clearly 😂

We're going this weekend and our options were:

£11 at the local Vue
£13 at an Odeon
£15 at Cineworld

All for basic seats!

beezlebubnicky · 29/11/2024 09:07

Have you got one of the Vue near you that does £4.99 tickets? A lot of them do but if you live in a more expensive place then that might not be an option

Gingercatlover · 29/11/2024 09:08

We only have an Odeon or Everyman, was nearly £40 to see Paddington at Odeon for two adults and a child and nearly £50 at Everyman, we are not going.

Ridiculous prices.

Gingercatlover · 29/11/2024 09:11

westisbest1982 · 29/11/2024 07:42

I’m assuming you looked at one of those luxury chains (Curzon or Everyman)? If so that’s an OK price for the experience.

Cinema tickets at the Odeon or Vue in my city range from £6 - £10.

Wow! £16.95 at Odeon here for an adult.

PineappleCoconut · 29/11/2024 09:13

Needmorelego · 29/11/2024 09:03

@PineappleCoconut was that £23 for 1 adult and 1 child?

No, £23 each! DD is now adult age according to Odeon and they do check ages of older children.

isthesolution · 29/11/2024 09:14

No we pay £5 a ticket. I refuse to go to odeon etc because it's £12-20 each!

MummyJ36 · 29/11/2024 09:15

I’ve not come across that pricing anywhere before and I live in Greater London which always seems to have sky high prices! My DC and I went to see Wicked recently on a weekend afternoon and tickets were £11.99 each for decent seats.

CandiedPrincess · 29/11/2024 09:16

Vue is about a fiver.

Needmorelego · 29/11/2024 09:16

@PineappleCoconut that seems odd.
I went to an Odeon for Wicked last week (big London one) and paid £13 for an adult ticket.

leia24 · 29/11/2024 09:17

Vue by me is £6 a seat. Even the odeon luxe near me is only about £22 for 2 people

mitogoshigg · 29/11/2024 09:21

It's £5.99 per adult plus .50 booking fee here.

mitogoshigg · 29/11/2024 09:23

It's Vue btw. Showcase closed down anyway, no wonder

gingercat02 · 29/11/2024 09:27

Vue and Cineworld are cheaper than Odeon. Our local independent is brilliant at sensible prices, but I appreciate they aren't an option lots of places

RosaMoline · 29/11/2024 09:36

Saw Gladiator II on it’s opening weekend and paid the following:
£40 for 2 tickets (sofa)
£66 for one bottle of white wine, two initial glasses of wine in the bar, olives, cashews and a hot dog.
All brought to your seat.
This was an Everyman, yes v expensive, not something I’d do on a regular basis, but worth paying a bit more for an ‘experience’ and not having to suffer annoying people/teens in the cinema. Much better class of attendees!

medianewbie · 29/11/2024 09:43

Rural Scotland (only cinema for 35km) £10 adult. £9 teen, £7.50 child. Don't accept meerkat offer either. We'd go every month if we could afford, as it is, we go once a year.
