To not leave the house when wfh?

Am I unreasonable to not get outside at this time of year?
I feel like it’s not healthy. But I’m struggling to go for a walk or run in the dark.
what do you do if you wfh and children old enough to take themselves to and from school.

I don't go out the house. Might potter in the garden to get some fresh air. Might nip to the Spar shop to get some more crisps....

Pivotting · 21/11/2024 18:49

I live on my own and quite often if I’m wfh I don’t leave the house at all. One of the reasons I need to get into the office regularly!

notedbiscuits · 21/11/2024 18:50

Can you go on a short walk in your lunch break?

If the weather is foul, do one of the thousands of YT videos of exercises. There are various ones depending on your ability.

Skepticgal · 21/11/2024 18:50

I joined a gym. I don't love it but it ticks the exercise box.

Scottishskifun · 21/11/2024 18:51

I try to force myself for a walk at lunchtime although I don't really fancy it bur always feel better for it. Not very long about 20 minute loop

notedbiscuits · 21/11/2024 18:51

Remember if you are not venturing out in the daylight, take vitamin D as this helps with your immune system.

AmICrazyToEvenBother · 21/11/2024 18:51

Go out on your lunch break!

Surely one of the benefits of being an adult is that you can pretty much do what you like?! Go out, don’t go out, I don’t think anyone else will be bothered!

notedbiscuits · 21/11/2024 18:54

Someone said to me that if you wfh, you need to incorporate some walking/exercise before your time of work starts.

Getting out of bed 10 mins before work is not the answer.

Doggymummar · 21/11/2024 18:54

I once did 22 days straight not going out it was bliss. I'm on holiday this week and went out to Sainsbury's yesterday other than that indoors for ten days. I love being home

coxesorangepippin · 21/11/2024 18:55

Yah I go out daily

StillAtTheRestaurant · 21/11/2024 18:57

I go out for a walk at lunchtime unless it's really raining. I'd go crazy if I was stuck indoors all day!

DreadPirateRobots · 21/11/2024 18:57

I go for a walk on my lunch break.

TwistedWonder · 21/11/2024 18:58

I wander to shops at lunchtime some days but others I don’t leave the house on my WFH days.

I know MN will collapse but some days I don’t get dressed 🤣

SlugsWon · 21/11/2024 18:59

Don't you wind up feeling sluggish and rubbish if you don't get some fresh air and exercise each day?

IchiNiSanShiGo · 21/11/2024 19:03

If you feel like you need to get out of the house, but the cold and dark is putting you off, can you join somewhere like a PureGym where the membership is dirt cheap and you can cancel and rejoin at will, then you could go and walk on the treadmill for half an hour or so every other day? And then try and arrange to meet a friend for a lunchtime coffee once a week?

Peanut91 · 21/11/2024 19:04

I carve out time in my day to ensure I head out for a walk as part of my lunch break.

OriginalUsername2 · 21/11/2024 19:08

I do the long walk to the supermarket to pick up groceries and carry them home in a backpack a couple of times a week. I choose some youtube videos to download and listen to on the walk which makes it more enjoyable.

I don’t enjoy just “going for a walk” in the town where I live as there’s nothing new to see. I’ve examined everyone’s front gardens enough now.

EmeraldRoulette · 21/11/2024 19:09

i have to re learn this lesson many times

went out for a walk yesterday when I could have stayed home

it was so cold it just wore me out. I don't enjoy it. I would have been better staying in. It was the sun that tempted me. I live in a tiny flat but took ages to warm my bones when I got in.

I don't work at home every day and I don't drive so am out walking for a reason most days. In winter, there's no benefit really.

SingingSands · 21/11/2024 19:14

No YANBU, it's completely up to you. I don't often get a change when wfh either, I think "oh it's lovely I should go for a walk... but I'll just load this laundry and empty the dishwasher and feed the cat and find a place for those items that have been on the stairs all week and make a sandwich and take the recycling out" and then it's time to go back to the laptop!!

I do run in the dark after work though, unless it's filthy wet.

Not the OP but I definitely don’t.

fivebyfivebuffy · 21/11/2024 19:30

I don't go out usually
If I want fresh air there's windows!

Lunch break is 30 mins which is enough to make food, eat, make coffee, go to the toilet and get back to work

Singleandproud · 21/11/2024 19:32

I was finding I was going a week without leaving the house other than to run DD to her sports club midweek and I was doing less than 1000 steps a day. I start my day with a 30 minute walking commute now, fortunately for me that takes me along the beach top and back home. I feel much better for it. If it's raining in the morning I go out at Lunch.

Goodness! I wouldn't deal with this well!
